Id assume Drurys already explored trading him and if theres talk of a potential buyout I cant see him having much trade value. If a team is willing to take him at 25% retained thats still money saved by the rangers short/long term. I dont know about others but I wouldnt want Trouba at $6m for 2 more seasons unless theres an asset coming back. Id rather save assets and swing for Roy/Pesce in FA. If the Rangers are expecting an asset in return I dont see teams being interested and hed be a buyout.

Roy and Pesce will both be getting $6. Teams will absolutely trade for a $6 mil Trouba.

Idk where this logic that you get top Dmen for nothing is coming from. Let alone they give you something.

When a team wants to dump a bad contract they have to pay. Rangers might buy out his contract meaning its a bad contract.

Roy/Pesce are both better then Trouba and teams can get them for similar price without giving up assets. I dont think Trouba is considered a top dman anymore maybe Im wrong.

Teams pay to dump insignificant players, not top4 Dmen.

I highly doubt he'll be bought out

Trouba logs more minutes than Roy and Pesce. Just because Roy/Pesce are soon going to hit UFA doesnt mean anything. There are 33 teams, many of which looking for top4 Dmen.

Because 2 is ALWAYS better than 1.

My wife disagrees when I say that about wives.

We need a goon!

Yeah, maybe. But we don't need another top 4 RHD with Seider and ASP. Either someone plays 3rd pair or switches sides.

On one hand, I'm pretty sure Trouba played a top four role for a team that won the President's trophy and made the conference finals.  On the other, he's not going to have Igor Shesterkin stopping the puck here

Also the Lalonde factor…How would he respond playing under a coach who has a system with no identity

From Peter Baugh of the Athletic - basically the Rangers Max Bultman.

My guess is there are teams that would be interested in Trouba, but I can’t see any being willing to take on his full contract and send back NHL players to the Rangers. If Drury wants to move Trouba, he’ll likely have to retain some of the captain’s salary or add a pick or prospect to sweeten the deal.

The only way I could see the Rangers getting back an NHL player is if that player is also on a less-than-ideal contract. A hypothetical of that would be Trouba, with some of his salary retained by the Rangers, to Detroit for Justin Holl, who has two years on his deal left at $3.4 million AAV and was a healthy scratch at times during the regular season. New York could then either buy Holl out for cheaper than Trouba or keep him as an overpaid third-pairing defenseman. Either way would clear up some cap space, though far from the full $8 million Trouba makes.

So salary retained and take on a negative asset which is similar to what I suggested since to move Holl Yzerman would likely have to retain and add a pick.

This isnt the first Ive seen similar trade proposals for Trouba suggested however its possible that the public view of Trouba is very different from Drury much like the public view of Chiarot is very different from Yzerman. Either way I wouldnt want Trouba even if it was salary retained unless were gaining something from it. Trouba at $6m would be another overpaid defenseman on the books imo.

ASP is at least a season away from the NHL and probably 3+ away from top 4 if he ever even makes it as a top 4 which isnt guaranteed. We need a top 4 RHD stop gap. Holl/Petry aint it.

From what ive gathered Trouba loves to swing for wild hits, then miss the hit, while also leaving his man wide open. Probably wouldn't fit here. Especially not with Yzermans goals this season.

Friedman and Marek are saying that Steve Yzerman has strong interest in John Gibson, This is definitely a trade I can see going down between Verbeek and Yzerman.

A trade that makes sense.

Refresh my memory...How many NHL games does ASP have under his belt?

And how much is Trouba's salary? He is a better option than Holl or Petry, but at twice the price or more. Now is not the time to add another overpriced stop gap Dman when there are major RFAs to re-sign and glaring holes in the top 6
