Yeah Nielson is horrible. He just is. Hated the signing when it happened, still do. Overpaid and unmovable contract Holland signed in a panic after Dats f***ed off home.

and all for what? he always has that smug look on his face whenever he's interviewed, like he's doing us a favor. What did ye do, Kenny?

Trying to get to the playoffs for another first round exit. Nielson is a playmaker on a team with no real finishers. Always had higher assists totals than goals, and his numbers haven't stayed consistent from season to season, save for a couple. Increase, decline, increase, decline. 33 goals/41 assists in two full seasons in Detroit. 6 years/$5.25 mill per with an NMC for the first 2, NTC for the rest. Christ, Kenny.

Some Isles fans wanted him back as recent as the end of last season. Trade him back for someone. Anyone. Preferably with a low cap hit. Open some cap Kenny. OPEN IT!!

If only it were the fans that made the trades...

Yep. If only. The Isles wouldn't take him back at the contract Kenny gave him, especially with all his old buddies leaving for other teams.

Especially YOU!

Wed be so stacked right now.

F***ing right!

Imagine if YOU could make trades... This team would have zero vets and 27 picks from rounds 4-7 in the next 4 years...

But man would it be an exciting team to watch...

KRS Holland:

Subban-Fowler

Trouba-Cholowski

Strahlman - Sulak

Assets expended: Nyquist, Ericsson, Daley, Dekeyser, 2 5th rounders, 2 second rounders.

Kenny Mahonas:

Karlsson - Cholowski

Trouba - Sulak

Jensen - McIsaac

Assets expended: Nyquist, Nielsen, Ericsson, Green, Daley, DeKeyser, Abdelkader, 4 1st rounders, 4 2nd rounders.

You're so dumb...

If the first bold is true, then the 2nd bold would make zero sense.

Fans don't make the trades, as someone pointed out. Which is obvious.

You said Nielsen is horrible. Then you said that Isles fans want him back. Do you not see the contradiction here? Fans don't make the trades, but fans also don't want guys on their team who are "horrible". Just another example of fans from another team having a more balanced view of a player than the fans of his current team.

You mean Abdelkader isn't the worst forward in the league? Ericsson isn't the worst defenseman in the league? Howard isn't the worst goalie in the league? Blashill isn't the worst coach in the league? Holland isn't the worst GM in the league? The Red Wings aren't the worst team in the league? ... that last one may be true this season...

He is horrible in Detroit. Bad fit. Has nothing to do with NYI. He had great chemistry with the guys who are no longer there before he left. Lots of fans want former players back on their teams. It means nothing.

The players that you think "suck" don't actually "suck", they're just overpaid and / or over used by the coach. People act as if we have a bunch of players that no team in the league would want, which isn't the case. Most teams wouldn't want a handful of players on this team, not because they "suck", but because they're on "bad" contracts. Ericsson doesn't "suck". He's a very good bottom pairing defenseman, being paid more like a middle pair defenseman. Abdelkader doesn't "suck". He's a good bottom six defenseman, being slightly overpaid and over utilized by Blashill. Howard doesn't "suck" and is paid fairly. etc, etc...

Well, the overpaid long term deals lead to overall roster suckage. But quite a few of those contracts are gone after this season anyways. To me, that’s when the team can actually begin the true rebuild. Offhand, I know Abby, Helm, Nielsen, Green, Daley, Bernier will be left out of the vets. That’s not bad. But this season is gonna hurt. Next one too.

Yes they will be. And they will be replaced by younger players as they develop. That's a rebuild, which a lot of you guys seem to want. You don't get rid of all your vets at once. It's a process.

UFAs this summer: Nyquist, Witko, Vanek, Kronwall, Jensen, Howard. Even 3 of them are brought back (Nyquist, Jensen, Howard), that means 3 more kids up next year. UFAs next summer: Green, E, Daley. Plus, Franzen's contract comes off the books. Even if E's re-signed, that's 2 more spots for kids. Then Helm, Glenny, and Bernier the year after that (plus Z's contract), so probably 2 more kids that season. The only 3 "vets" left after that are Nielsen, Abby, and Dekeyser. Is that still too many for a "rebuild"?

That's 12 hated "vets" coming off the payroll over the next 3 years. At the same time, the kids who are the future who have been drafted over the past few seasons will be coming onto the roster. That's a rebuild. It's almost like Holland actually knows what he's doing. But that can't be true, can it? The albatross contracts are coming off the books the same time the kids are getting big raises. The overpaid vets are coming off the team at the same rate that some of the kids are ready to come up. But that's all just dumb  luck, right?
