Wonder what the delay in re-signing Veleno is. His QO is $874k, he has no arbritation rights. He did net 20 points last season and seemed to make some strides in the right direction. Is he exploring the RFA market? Could someone Offer Sheet him? I think a nice contract would be somewhere in between $1M to $1.3M, with no more than 3 years. Maybe he accepts the QO and gives The Wings that much more cap room for another acquisition. Maybe he'll be traded?

Still wondering if Serron Noel (22 years old) will get a contract somewhere, also getting more curious of Nolan Patrick. Although he did not play in 2022-23 (injury) he is still only 24, could he be a reclamation project? I'd really like to see Ryan Merkley get into the organization here. Very solid young (22) RHD that could possibly make some noise in our ranks. Basically it'd be a Zadina for Merkley swap with San Jose, and I believe we'd come out the winner in that one!

He's part of the Konecny deal.

This guy just isn't progressing.  But if he wants to be Brian Lashoff part 2, I have no problem with it.

I don't agree with this. Dude missed a ton of his development so he's definitely delayed but I think he's still going to be a regular, contributing, NHL defenseman. Just maybe not with this team. In the last two years he's established himself as a strong and trusted defender. I've watched GR more than a few times over the last year or two and he's out there against the opposition's best, starting in the dzone, late in games, etc. On top of that his offense, while not spectacular, has improved each of the last two years and (most importantly) is driven by strong 5on5 play and isn't overly reliant on the powerplay (which he's not on). McIsaac gives me strong Nick Jensen vibes and I'm glad he re-signed...if only to be used as trade bate. I expect a big year out of him in GR.

He hasnt seen ONE single game in Detroit.  Osterly, Haag, Walman, Chiarot, Ghost, Holl, Etc.  Yzerman keeps signing defensemen other teams dont want to play over McIsaac.  He's just not up to snuff for the NHL.

Wait, are you telling me that a guy that missed two full seasons of development might take a little longer than a typical prospect? I'm shocked. But seriously, the exact same thing was true of Jensen and that turned out okay. All I know is that when I watch him play he looks like a guy coaches trust in high leverage situations. That's a good thing. And at 23, given his injury history, I'd absolutely give him more runway too. Just like the Wings did. I think it's WAY early to call this kid Lashoff 2.0

Why haven't you made the profiles for the rest of our roster yet?  That was the best thing the board has seen in 5 years.

I did the same thing lat year for our UFA class and I'm keeping it at that.

Joe Veleno is a terrible hockey player and I hope we stop wasting ice time on him.

Sad Face.

Hes an RFA with no arb rights and a cheap QO, and hes still not signed. Meanwhile SY has already re-signed Mcisaac and Newpower... you can kinda see where Veleno is on the priority list right now.

The facts you dropped are exactly why there is no urgency to sign him asap. The fact he isn't signed yet means nothing outside of the fact there is zero risk of losing him.

But typically certain players have more priority. The fact that Newpower got worked out b4 Veleno is like ehhh?

I say get a package together starting with Veleno in order to obtain Konecny or Boeser. Vancouver needs cap relief.

Fabbri, Veleno, McIsaac is the package.

to PHL : Fabbri, Veleno, McIsaac

to DET : Konecny, 2025 2nd

-OR-

to VAN : Fabbri, Veleno, McIsaac

to DET : Boeser, Tanner Pearson (LTIR for 1 more season) & 2024 1st (because we helped them out with their cap problem, we relived them of nearly $10M)(Top 10 protected of course to 2025)

edit: Here is an armchair GM of the Boeser deal. (along with a couple of others. I signed Patrick and Merkley as reclamation projects.)

He's the last player we've to sign, Shouldn't be much of an issue to get a deal done here.

You'd honestly sign Nolan Patrick? With his multiple concussions and migraine issues. He'd be Johan Franzen 2.0.

Karlsson doesn't want to go to Carolina. Doesn't care for former teammate Brent Burns and doesn't like the Canes style of play. Guy reporting this is a pretty reliable source.

The Sylvester podcast is great.

Karlsson is a LOSER.  Brent Burns is a LOSER.  These guys getting Norris Trophies has partially stained that award, imo.  They are not good defensemen.  They are above average wingers playing defense.

As a reclamation project yes. Low risk high reward.

This guy sucked in his draft year and he sucks now. If he had the EXACT same career up to this point, but was drafted in the late first round (instead of early) nobody would give a single sh*t about him and he'd be working at his dad's used car dealership in Winnipeg right now.

When Simon was still in SHL I suggested in one of our threads, or maybe on Twitter than he should wear 77 since he couldnt wear 7. Awesome!

Also with Kostin wearing 24, he better throw some fists around!

I liked that 3 on Edvinsson.  But 77 going to look killer too.  Berggren got tooled.  They gave him a rookie number twice.
