Don't sleep on Johansson. He's really good. I watched him a year ago in GR, and even then came away thinking "that kid can do everything". He's also kinda mean, which I like. But for that reason I think he's likely to be part of trade packages at some point. We don't need any LHD and teams are going to want him. Very solid player though. Reminds me of a Dmitry Orlov or Nick Leddy type of guy.

Fair. I haven't seen a ton of him, so I'm talking out of my ass a bit here.

Sportsnet is saying asking price for Hanafin is top prospect already in the NHL + first + late pick.

Sounds like theyd be asking us for Ed + 1st

Why would you conclude that? Edvinsson isn't already in the NHL.

Almost every site where I see trade rumors, nothing much about Detroit. Most say they will stand pat.  The question is:  Is this team good enough to win a cup with a couple of additions and some luck?  I think they are and it is frustrating when I see all of the contenders lining up to improve their chances but when it comes to Detroit, they say "they want to build this to last".  Well, Toronto has had a top team for 5 or 6 seasons now and nothing to show for it.  I think the ultimate goal is to win a cup so why not try?  We have so many good prospects and we will never have room for all of them.  Do the math.  Why not trade some prospects like Wallinder, Mazur, Augustine etc to acquire a difference maker.  If we get a steady D and an upgrade at 2C, we could really make some noise.  We may not have Kane next year either.  I hope I am wrong and they make a big deal.  If the teams you are going to face should you make the playoffs all intend to improve at the deadline, I think Detroit needs to as well.    We all know Yzerman keeps everything close to the vest so for all we know, he is working on something.  I compare the Wings to the Lions in one regard and that is when you start to get good players through the draft, at some point you have to give them big contracts and the goal should be to win when they are under their rookie deals because that is the time you have $$ to bring in missing pieces.

Cause thats the closest we can get

Your logic baffles me. If the "asking" price is a player already in the NHL why would they ask us for a player not in the NHL? Wouldn't they just not ask us at all if that really is the asking price?

To Det: Gudas

To Ana: Holl, 2024 2nd,

To Det: Pavel Buchnevich

To Stl: Fabbri, 2025 1st, Wallinder/Johansson

My deadline plan. Holl and Gudas have the same number of years on their contracts and similar AAV. Gudas is better so Anaheim gets the 2nd, but Detroit isn't in any worse a situation with Gudas as they would have been with Holl.

Same premise with Buchnevich. Same term and not much additional AAV. STL gets the 1st because Buchnevich is a stud and we're getting him for next season too. And they get back a player that they like, that they can flip at next year's deadline to a contender. AND SY does right by Fabbri by sending a good locker room guy back to a team full of his buddies.

Good proposal with Gudas for Holl, the rationale is solid...  wish I'd have thought of that a few days ago... :w00t2:

Nor a fan of the 2nd proposal, I'd be keeping all my 1st rounders incase an Elias Petterson offersheet was possible.

Why is even hockey good?

Not sure if you're a Deadwood fan, but there's a line in the show where Al the bartender (the main antagonist) says "as a base of operations, you cannot beat a saloon".

I feel the same way about LGW. This is the safe place from whence I venture out into the internet to wreak havoc on the dignified gentry. Nothing that happens here happens in the real internet, this is like a pocket dimension. My real antics need practice. This is where I perfect my craft. This is home.

I do. I traded my Twitter for Reddit when Elon took over. Reddit is so much more wild. Twitter is like a teenager with a potty mouth. Reddit is like a hooker with a secret p*nis.
