Did we owe Grier for convincing Zadina to void his contract and join the sharks or something?

I think it was just 2 things - Walman was doing stupid dances.  Walman cost too much.  That's it.  I always liked the sem.

Christ now Shapiro is reporting that, not only would other teams have traded something for walman had yzerman shoppedhim, but that SJS would have claimed him on waivers, and did not ask for the 2nd rd sweetener when SY offeredhim free, but happily took it.

Walman better turn out to be a pedophile or something, because this way worse than Holland level.

I'm still on the side of the "future considerations" is a draft day deal. If that player is there at 14, don't draft him. If player is not there, maybe Detroit will get the 33rd or at least the 42nd overall. Or maybe they broker a trade.

I don't really buy this particular "theory" at all. If it's true Yzerman is an idiot.

It doesn't make sense to trade all of that to have say on 1 pick ahead of you. That player you supposedly want so bad at 15 could be gone at 13, 10, or even 5.

If there is a handshake deal it makes way more sense that there's a 3way deal with NYR coming, or SJS has agreed to claim a contract on waivers that has an NTC.

It's possible the Gibson trade is holding all this up.

It could be anything or nothing. We may never know.

That would be a bad fit. Both Detroit and Edmonton were much better teams when he took over GM duties. Detroit was already a contender, and EDM was already headed upward with elite talent on the roster.

Chicago is still a bottom feeder and needs a serious rebuild. That's not what Holland does.

Buut he could silence the critics if he builds a winner in the Windy City

Well that theory is dead. Sabres now have the 14th pick

Finally the Walman trade seems to make sense. It wasn´t just a cap dump or Walman being some dickhead. Yzerman wanted #11 from Buffalo but knew they would ask for a kings ransom from a division rival. So he gave a 2nd rd pick to SJ for the trade up + Walman and will now get #11 for #15

Is there that much of a difference between 15 and 11? Who are we trading up to get?

I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious.

Then why hasnt the 11 and 15 been swapped yet?

The Yzerscam is looking real bad right now. Standing pat at the deadline. Giving up Walman, a 2nd, and Gibson for Kiiskanen... would hate to see the captain fired, but this is exceptionally bad work. This would be bad even for Holland...

The SCAM will have his day tomorrow.

Despite the teams success this has been terrible year for management.

>signing an anchor contract in Holl

>trading for an anchor in Petry

>buying out Yamamoto for Holland, only to give away the compensation in Kostin for nothing

>giving away Walman for not only nothing, but a great a pick as well

>the goalie carousel nightmare continues 5 seasons later and now he wants to fix with past his prime anchor contract in Gibson

>cost us the playoffs by doing nothing at the deadline

What did he do good? JTC? That's about it. Debrincat and Kane fell into his lap. And Lyon saved his ass in a big way.

Fuqqing pathetic year for SY. There's no foresight or plan at all. If Walman wasn't part of the plan going forward he should have been traded at the TDL for picks, or we should have added more players and taken the cup run seriously. But now ur just trading him, along with valuable futures, without even shopping him or even trying to waive him???

I hope he's in Devellano and Illitch's doghouse right now. It's actual amatuer hour right now, and MUCH more than this is expected of him.

Now that Holland is available again, bring him back as an advisor. Maybe two pigeon brains together will actually be able to put a plan together... or just hand the team to Horcoff or Draper or Lidstrom. This team was already under rebuild when he joined and now 5 years later still nothing accomplished, and making the same mistakes the last guy made.

Its sad that every yzerslappys excuse for him is "well he had to undo all of Hollands crap rebuilding first" but if Draper took over tomorrow he would have the same excuse.

If the draft and UFA are anything but GREAT there's going to be a lot of folks questioning Yzermans formerly stellar reputation.

Believe me. I would love to see Chicago bring in Holland for their rebuild, so they can draft Zadinas, Manthas, Rasmussens, Sheahans, Kindls, Cholowskis, and McCollums to play with Bedard.

Ya, I don't get it. Why give away the 2nd and receive nothing? Better dump Holl, Fabbri, Husso, and maybe another, then sign Kane Stamkos, trade for Gibson and Zegras and then Chychrun and Sharangovich and McGrouty(sp) and sign Truscott this August. I'm very upset the longer this goes on... where's the media asking him the hard questions? Why was Wslman dumped with a 2nd for nothing? He needs to be asked this straight forward.

The media are straight cowards if he's not grilled over and over about this trade. He's going to have to answer questions at the draft tomorrow so we'll see...

SJS cant retain anymore salaries, they no longer own the 14th pick, and we haven't waived anyone. And GMs are saying they would have traded assets for him or claimed him, so he doesnt have a problem thats known league wide. This is starting to look REAL bad REAL fast.

Not even trying waivers? Not even shopping him?

The good explanation behind this better drop soon, because if nothing comes this is pure negligence and incompetence. I dont care how good you are at drafting, a general manager leading a staff and a team, cannot be committing such obviouly egregious actions.

At least with the Federko trade, or Hollands contracts, Jimmy D and Ken can defend what they were trying to do. But I see no defense for this at this moment. And this will easily surpass the Federko trade as the worst trade in red wings history if something doesnt come to light soon.

If i was chris illitch id want some very serious answers right now, because it looks a helluva a lot like the person i entrusted my business to is asleep at the wheel.

That all said... here is my current hope:

SJS did NYR a huge favor by claiming Barclay Goodrow for them with nothing in return. Drury is in debt to Grier. Now that we have stepped forward to repay Drury's debts to SJS for him, his debt passes to us. We know he needs to shed salary, so they better be sending us something we want for cheap. Is that Trouba with salary retained? Idk. And idk even know if i want Trouba at this point... but this is about the last conspiracy that makes sense, so i hope its true for the red wings and yzermans sake.

Not unless we're swapping picks. I'm with you though, something better come to light. I'm getting tired of getting zip in return for a player just because Yzerman doesn't like him.
