I'd definitely like the following things:
1. Babcock moving on to a situation that fits him and the Red Wings better. I feel we had those Cups in 07, 09 and yes...even 2013 with just a little more urgency and fire we should've gotten it done. Not saying Babs was a bad coach but I just can't fathom how it's possible to constantly let teams back into a series we should've already won. Babs doesn't have a good track record in Game 7s. I'm not big on the adjustments he makes(or doesn't make) and I really feel he is a bit overrated. That being said, I believe he can flourish with the right group of players. Just not this group.
2. Cleary and Franzen need to retire. We would have no Cup since 02 if not for Franzen and Cleary was a solid role player but this isn't 08-09 anymore. Time to move on.
3. For the love of God get a real first pairing defenseman. A guy that can score and actually block shots is what I would love to see.
4. Please get a bona-fide scoring, front net presence. Dude that can crash the net. A good enough player that can allow us to drop Abby and Helm down a few lines where they truly belong.
I don't think you can really do too much if you're Ken Holland at this point nowadays. 15 years ago you could've patched up whatever pieces you were missing to an already stacked lineup and boom...Stanley Cup Finals. Hasek, Robitaille, Hull, etc. You'd have to give up the farm(literally) for even one of those player's caliber in today's NHL. Not gonna happen. You are seeing a team that has a salary cap they have to abide by and an aging superstar nucleus from a Cup win from 7 years ago. Franzen, Datsyuk, Zetts and Kronwall in their primes. No one is gonna let Shea Weber go. No one is gonna trade Tarasenko for Kindl, Tatar, Nyquist and Howard. Just isn't gonna happen. If you're a Wings fan you simply have to wait to see if there's a player we need during free agency and pray we either have the money, trade assets or if that said player wants to even play here. Simple as that. You can't expect Holland to plug holes on a non championship caliber team and win a championship. So you either appreciate the 24 straight playoff appearances and not go far or you watch them tank 5-10 seasons and stock up on talent that may or may not work out for you in the long run. Ask Edmonton, Buffalo and the Islanders about that. Also will you be a hardcore fan if the Wings are winning 25 games a year in a brand new, empty home stadium? Yes I also would've loved to keep Hossa but things just didn't work out.
Tampa is less physical than we are. They are not advancing past the 2nd round if they manage to beat us In my opinion. Gonna be real difficult to win away in a Game 7, regardless of how we've played in Tampa so far in this series. We had a chance to seal the deal last night and let things slip away in Game 4. How many chances are we gonna blow before it comes back to bite us? I hope not. Mraz has been solid and I hope he has another shutout up his sleeve. Gonna be hard to do.
he was hurt but still played he had an excuse.. from what I know Z is perfectly healthy yes he had the back surgery but I guess I just wasn't ready for this in a way i'm really sad, this is the end of an era.. I didn't think it would affect him like this
While I agree with you that Z has taken more than a few steps back this year, do not tell me that Datsyuk is a more clutch player than him. Especially in the playoffs. Look at Z's numbers and giving him the C on his jersey was a no brainer. Conn Smythe, numerous game 7 goals and game winners, that wicked full minute penalty kill and stick lock on Crosby in the 08 Stanley Cup. In his prime, he was better than Datsyuk has ever been, in my eyes at least. Now Dats had a bit more to give scoring wise. I love Datsyuk but before we won that Cup he went quite a few years without scoring even a goal for us in the playoffs from 02 to like 08. I love Dats but my favorite Wings from 06 and up will always be Zetts and Lids. That's why it's so hard to see Z struggle so much. But maybe he has something left in the tank for game 7.
That 2-0 lead in Game 4 with 5 minutes to go was a deplorable choke job that really let Tampa back in the series and now they get their Game 7 at home. What a joke. I'd put Glendening on a higher line than Zetterberg or Nyquist. Man did those guys disappear. Not even 1 goal from the captain in all these games?
I think this might be a bigger gag job than that Chicago series. How can those 3 goals possibly happen? Rough being a fan of a team who had this series and in a matter of a few minutes lets it slip away in front of their fans at home.
I do like the player name chants for our own team though like Todd Bertuzzi or you got Kronwalled. Those are always fun.
Maybe if Kronwall would actually level someone again and if the Wings actually had someone big in front of the net that could score some dirty goals the crowd would start up some chants again. I love when the Joe goes crazy and they haven't had much to be crazy about the past few seasons to be honest.
