And if he's playing well. We could always say that "the kaiser" is on a roll...

Did anyone else watch the game on CBC? Canadian hockey coverage is the worst! They're so pro Canada with their comments that it really makes them look stupid. All game long they talked about Lidstrom retiring, how bad the Wings PP and PK was (after only 10 games), fast the Oilers are, and have the 4th best PP in the League. They also made a comment about how the Wings are retooling and the Oilers are ready to win now.
Last I checked, the Oilers are still in the bottom 1/3 of the Western Conference. What's taking their rebuild so long?
Canadian stations (CBC and TSN) seem to have an agenda before the game starts, they don't call the game as it happens. As a Canadian, it's embarrassing.
To reply to all their stupid comments, the Oilers PP sucked today! They played sloppy all game, and had way to many turn overs.
The best announcers are ones you don't really notice. They let the game control the broadcast. Mickey, Ken, and Murph have to be amoung the best in the League, they just seem to enjoy themselves, and the game of Hockey. You won't find a better broadcast team out there then them.
As for the Wings, I think the first game was a wash, that wasn't this team. Take away Game 1 and we're 6-3-1.

I beg to differ and so does his career .900 save percentage and 2.9 GAA. He's on an amazing 6 game win streak right now, but less we forget his 5-10-1 start to the season with a staggering .82 save percentage. Plus, he is the Devils starter as MB30 is trying to get back into the game. Even if he was available, he's one of the last goalies I'd want.

You've got to be kidding me with those names.
How many of those goalies have won a Stanley Cup? None. Only Irbe has come somewhat close.
And Osgood has won two - one as a starter and one coming on in relief, when you come on in relief of somebody in the playoffs unexpectedly you're usually going golfing soon.

Remember that we are talking about a game here. A sport, nothing more. A competition between teams conducted within a very specific set of standards and regulations.
Hockey is a game. The NHL is infact a $3billion industry.
also that increased parity in the league, I don't like the cap, but I freely admit that it's only because otherwise the Wings would have an advantage over almost all other teams.
The only reason the Wings would have an advantage is because of the hard work the Illitch family has put in over the last 20 plus years of owning the business. They built it, they should reap the fruits of their labor.
you nor anyone else here knows if he followed the letter of the law or not.
It's common knowledge that the contract follows the letter of the law; that is the entire premise behind the term "loophole".It's perfectly legal according to the letter of the law even if is not in agreement with the spirit of the law. Thats why so much time is spent on the language of a contract and/or a government bill.
Further more, the draft is socialist too. It's not fair that a team has to pick last because they finihsed first. The only fair way to determin a draft order is to have a totally random lottery. But i know thats to heavy for most of you sheeple to even fathom.

next year we have Lidstrom and draper most likely retiring so that means next summer we should be going into free agency with at least 7.5, or if ozzy retires then about 9 million in potential cap space going into free agency.
in 2 years we may be having homer bert and raffi retiring for a total of about 9.5 million in potential cap space.
what relistic players are becoming ufa's in the coming years that you would like to see in detroit? discuss

I'm 100% positive that there are a crowd of people on these forums who would agree with my assertions on this matter.

Hah, yeah, because the loyalty this organization shows to its players is NEVER reciprocated, NEVER makes other players want to play in Detroit, and, in general, NEVER pays this organization any dividends. Oh, wait... you're wrong.
Yes, the loyalty has its downsides, namely that some longtime players get contracts they may not deserve. However, you're completely oblivious to every intangible if you think that it doesn't have far more upsides than downsides.

Um...no?
Zetterberg is the better player, and trading him before he starts to decline (and probably even after that) would put a black mark on this franchise in relation to loyalty that would take decades to recover from.

I think the entire team has failed, after making the hard fought push to make the playoffs since the olympic break the entire team looks gased to me.Also I just don't think Howard has what it takes to make it in the playoffs. He's like Legace,a great season goalie, but come crunch time he just isn't good enough.
We all know at the end of the day it's a team sport, but we just don't have the goaltending this year to get the job done.I had to work tonight and didn't get to see the game, but being up 3-1 midway in the 3rd,there's no excuse for losing this game.We have to find a number one goalie this summer,or next year will be more of the same.
