#2619224 Things you would like to see for 2015-16 Season

Posted by e_prime on 06 July 2015 - 01:11 PM

Some of you live in the most bipolar nightmarish dreamscapes imaginable.

Imagine a world where Nyquist actually gets to arbitration, we walk away and sign Chris Stewart...  then the nightmare passes and then you turn your head to the other side of the pillow and we're in the fluffy candy cloud-filled world where we can trade Smith, Kindl, and Quincey for picks and land Franson.

Never wake me up.

#2619211 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

I would personally like to thank crap teams who need to grossly overpay sub-elite talent in order to keep them there. Now every player of that calibre can use them as an example at to become grossly overpaid arbitration. Thanks buffalo, Columbus, Ryan O'Reilly, and Brandon saad!

...but as pointed out by many on the board already, Detroit typically gets a deal done with players that choose arbitration before it ever gets to an arbitration hearing.  So who cares about those teams that can't get things done without overpaying and greedy money grubbing players.

Nyquist going the route of player elected arbitration does two things:

1. Shows that he wants to stay a Wing and is willing to negotiate in good faith that a fair deal will get done.

2. Keeps other teams from offer-sheeting him.

MLive's Ansar Khan ponders whether Jeff Blashill might finally choose to utilize Brendan Smith on the Red Wings' power play, unlike his predecessor:

"I think Brendan has that ability to do that (power play)," Blashill said. "You have to see where the whole puzzle fits at camp. He's somebody I know that's done that in the past because he's done that for me in the American League (for half the 2012-13 season)."

Blashill has a vision of how Smith can be best utilized.

"I think Brendan's best offensive ability is kind of roaming around below the tops of the circles," Blashill said. "If he's a weak-side guy on the power play, going to the net a lot, he can retrieve pucks because he's quick, he's strong, he's competitive. He's got good offensive instincts once he gets below the tops of circles. I know at Wisconsin he was on his off-side (right side) hitting one-timers. That's something we'll explore going into camp."

#2619146 Nyquist Files For Arbitration

Posted by e_prime on 05 July 2015 - 08:20 PM

Well, you have to look at this way Frank.

It isn't a similar situation.  AT ALL!

Goose files because he wants to stay, doesn't want to be offer sheeted because he's going to negotiate with the Wings in good faith...  and would you look at that the Wings want him to stay, don't intent to screw him over dollar-wise.

Saad and Chicago were not close on making a deal so they traded him.

While this was unexpected, you knew something was going to give and Chicago.  So it did.

So, Columbus while not giving up a kings ransom for Saad...  HEY!  They'd sure like to keep him and not lose him to an offer sheet... so they went probably higher than needed with both dollar and term and Saad accepted.

So while they might be comparable in stats for this year... and because I'm nice I'll point out that they had similar years last year as well, but I'm still going to maintain based on my thoughts above and below that... It's not really the same thing at all.  ...and as you have so kindly pointed out TWICE...  Saad is younger (therefore broke into the NHL at an earlier age than Nyquist/etc) and has ALREADY helped a team win two cups...  Goose is OLDER and helped no team win ZERO cups.  . No cups, No CA$H.*

*(Not always true, but there's always some moron GM trying to save his job that'll throw a horrible contract at SOMEONE!)

There's no reason to think Goose is going to demand outlandish term or dollars on this contract to stay on a team that brought him into the league, that he wants to play for, and to play for a coach that loves the s*** out of him.

I'd rather have franson than Green but neither is top pairing calibre.

Wonder where Phaneuf will land

Phaneuf will probably stay put now.

I recall Weiss, Alfie, and Clarkson as the big three that year.

Here's the 2013 Free Agent Signing List.

Horton was a pretty big deal at that time, no?

#2617040 Pronger (contract) and Grossman to for Sam Gagner and conditional pick

Posted by e_prime on 27 June 2015 - 04:35 PM

I have no expectations that this will become precedent.

I'd just like an explanation from the league how they wrapped their heads around approving this trade.

Also, I dunno what happened to the thread title (probably too long) but it said "...to ARI for..."

I'm surprised there aren't more people crying,"Why didn't Ken Holland make the trade for Hamilton?!" Or "We could have offered more!!"
As if the Bruins would have any interest in sending one of their guys to a division rival.

#2615791 Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick

Posted by e_prime on 23 June 2015 - 05:15 PM

Ha I never said I wanted that to happen.

I understand.  I think we're all a little eager to get this off-season started.
