#2568358 Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Posted by e_prime on 04 February 2015 - 06:23 PM

You expect us to believe you watched a ton of Nashville games? Your from canada as am I so I assume you've watched leafs games occasionally on Saturday night hockey and on sportsnet etc... During the week , although like myself I highly doubt you watched every single leafs game

Woah, whoa, whoa slowdown there man... who are you to call someone out on their viewing habits?  Maybe if you paid attention you'd see that krsmith17 has readily admitted that he watches a TON of Leafs games because his GF is a Toronto fan.  Now, in my book, that's a tough thing to admit... so the fact that he has should be worth it's weight in gold (or at least bitcoin) for internet credibility.  On top of that, you don't have to watch EVERYSINGLELEAFSGAME to get a good sampling of what Franson is and is not.  He didn't say he's watched "every individual play"  he said, "followed his individual play closely"  which means, he's scouted the guy.  He's on good basis with his abilities, his positives, his shortcomings, etc.    Reading fully, and maybe more than once helps with formulating clarity in your posts, responses, etc.

Why do we need a puck mover when we already have Kronwall and Brendan Smith???

Because one offensive defenseman isn't enough?

You really consider Kronwall a stay at home guy? Never thought of him that way myself

Well I read recently, on one of these threads, that his offense is in decline.  We should trade for Tyler Myers to fill in the gaps.

You two... I see what you're doing here!!

The question is are we willing to give Franson over 5 million / year? That is what the Leafs offered him and he turned it down.

It was under $5 million... for an undisclosed term... but if you were Franson would you sign with the Leafs?

He says he wants to stay with them, but players say that ALL OF THE TIME.

He's saying the right things because he's supposed to and that's what guys like him say.

I don't think there's a chance in hell he gets traded here for only a second rounder.  I just hope that the info. I dug up earlier is bunk.

Either that or someone ponys up that 2nd round pick (or more) and then he signs elsewhere in the off-season.  (Here.)

Hell, give em a first

How about a first in the form of a former first rounder?

...Kindl.

Here you go kr:

Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Talk around the league is that the Maple Leafs are looking to get a 2nd round pick for Cody Franson.

krsmith... you make a strong case, but I still would love to see Holland make a smart move at the deadline and not wait until Free Agency/Off Season to make a move on D.  No overpayments for Myers, or Yandle.  ...but SOMETHING! Even if it's just a Kindl for Petry swap. Get a RH D-man on the back-end.

With Franson turning down a long term deal with the Leafs (It was reported they couldn't come to terms for a multi-year deal at 4.6 per season) that certainly does make it possible for him to be available to us ...and 28 other teams.

I think Toronto will try very very hard to move Phaneuf and keep Franson though,

He's been shouldering the weight on the defensive side with Dion out with injury.

If Shanny and Co. are blowing up the Leafs, Franson is a guy they should be keeping around.

kip... I agree, I don't think Green is going to get moved at the deadline for anything less than a kings ransom.

I don't think Washington will re-sign him in the offseason though... I think with Green coming off the books, they'll be looking to finally make another big splashy move at Forward.

A 29 year old Mike Green is too old to help us, but a 31 year old Johnny Boychuk isn't?

Do you have a fever?

...but he's injury prone, and can't defend (although that's not what we need anyway) and not a rough-and-tough former Bruin.

Also, we're not contenders... so there's no reason to go after him.

#2565665 Franzen on IR

Posted by e_prime on 23 January 2015 - 08:57 AM

so... lazy mule is always lazy, but especially when he's sitting on IR nursing a fake injury.

Let me amend that:  "So... you're willing to defend a lazy mule*, but not when he's sitting on IR nursing a fake injury?"

*just noticed that you claim to defend Franzen, not that I'm going to go back into other threads to check for legitimacy of such claim.

Look, I'm not trying to get all up on your case about this... and certainly there are players that are willing to play through pain and injury, and Franzen isn't that guy... but do you honestly believe that trainers, doctors, and Ken Holland would allow Franzen to just sit on IR because he wants to nurse the injury?  Sure, they might let him sit there because they want to keep him on IR -- whether it be cap or chemistry issues, but I can't imagine you're going to let a guy like that, if healthy, to nurse his fake wounds. Offensive struggles or not.

His -12 is unacceptable. It's tough watching that much money tied up in such a streaky player.  :scared:

For the umpteenth million time:  IT'S NOT THAT MUCH MONEY.

Perhaps I got carried away. I do believe these things do happen but a concussion is a very serious thing

What happens:  Players faking injuries?  ...or concussions?

Tell us how you really feel, and please, feel free to drag Samuelsson and his weak IR stints into the conversation too.  ...or how about Weiss and all of his faking?

I get it you're mad toss the jersey, but not during play. Wait till the break in the play... I same the same about tossing to old pie.

I'm sure this is an autocorrect mishap, but I have to ask... why did you let the pie get old?  ... and/or is 'tossing pie' like 'tossing salad'?

#2563267 TB's Paquette learns the hard way, don't start **** w Chara

Posted by e_prime on 14 January 2015 - 08:12 PM

What the he'll did krejci leading the playoffs in points twice have anything to do with the fight?

I think They were just trying to say how awesome he is, like "hes the playoff point leader, and he's sticking up for himself and fighting his own fights, he's the next great one!"
Type thing.

No, it was more like "He's A STAR PLAYER!  NO ONE SHOULD TOUCH HIM!  He's sacred and holy and how dare that fourth line "hack" take exception to be wrapped up by him!  Also, please disregard my earlier comments about Chara taking on Paquette because they are totally in opposition to what I just said."

That's Jack Edwards in a nutshell.  Hypocritical ******-nozzle.  Over the top and to the edge.  I think Kip's got him pretty much figured out.

Used to think it was comical, but now it's just plain ridiculous. Everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to their announce team, but this guy's just a frigging joke.

#2563259 Brodeur retires. Named Sr. Advisor to Blues GM

Posted by e_prime on 14 January 2015 - 07:59 PM

Seems Brodeur is over being the 3rd goaltender for the Blues now that Elliot and Allen are back to health.

May be an option for Detroit to have a short-term backup for Mrazek while Howard is out for who knows how long...

I'm not going to personally attack anyone.  Or even allude to it.

What I will say is, there are plenty of dips***s holding the "Boston point of view", and it's because of people like them that Jack Edwards calls games the way he does.  If fans held themselves, and their home announcing teams to a higher standard, then Jack Edwards would be in Southie, drinking himself silly after a long day in the garbage truck, bitchin' about the smarty pants' with their fancy math stats, and the decline of the enforcer, and the overall pussification of America.

Don't you mean, 'Murica.

Either way... Preach on, Brother Kip!

The Detroit Red Wings suffered a serious blow when goaltender Jimmy Howard, recently selected to appear in the NHL All-Star Game, suffered a partial groin tear. The 30-year-old Howard is expected to miss at least two weeks, possibly longer.

With Howard on injured reserve and backup Jonas Gustavsson still sidelined by a shoulder injury, Jared Clinton suggested there could be talk of the Wings pursuing St. Louis Blues netminder Martin Brodeur. Clinton, however, notes the 42-year-old Brodeur’s woeful stats are reason enough for the Wings to avoid the former Vezina winner.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman wonders if Wings GM Ken Holland might contact the Buffalo Sabres and inquire into the availability of Jhonas Enroth as short-term relief. Enroth and fellow Sabres netminder Michal Neuvirth are both UFAs in July and there’s speculation one of them could be dealt by the trade deadline.

ESPN.com’s Craig Custance reports Holland isn’t panicking over the plight of his goalie tandem. Holland intends to use call-ups Petr Mrazek and Tom McCollum as replacements. Holland could be justified in his confidence in Mrazek, as the 22-year-old has posted up decent numbers in limited starts this season.

Custance has the right idea.  There's no reason for us to make a trade for a goalie.
