Can't blame murph, he was just drunk

I think he proved with his play last season on a pretty bad Dallas team that the desire is still there... whether you like or dislike the signing, you can't argue that he is an asset, not a liability and will only make a team better on a 3rd line role.... keep in mind, he had 11 more pts than Miller in 21 less games last year... EDIT - As I said in another thread, IF Modano signs, I wouldn't mind the Wings swinging something like this: - Drew Miller to CBJ for Jared Boll - Derek Meech and Mattias Ritola to Boston for Mark Stuart (also gives Boston some MUCH needed cap relief and fills out roster spots on the cheap, plus a high prospect in Ritola) - Mike Modano signed via FA (lines arbitrary for formatting reasons) Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) / Mike Modano ($1.000m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.000m) / Darren Helm ($1.000m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.750m) Jared Boll ($0.850m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Mark Stuart ($1.675m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) ROSTER: 22; CAP:$59.4m; CARRY-OVER PENALTY: $0.050m; PAYROLL: $58.975m; CAP ROOM: $0.300m; BONUSES: $0.000m WITH THAT SAID - I'd rather us take a flier on Modano and let the kids play (plus I really don't like the idea of giving up on Ritola without ever really giving him a chance) and maybe letting Miller go to add some nastiness, but otherwise, standing pat... at the same token, I wouldn't hate Modano coming here...

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

I can't wrap my head around the concept of him on this team. Hang 'em up, Mike. Sorry, but it's past your time to go.

So Franzen was the best player in the playoffs

Suprised Dan O'halloran isn't in the top ten and listed under San Jose.

    Kovie

Draper, Cleay, Huds. This just in. Rafalski to miss entire season after an unfortunate golfing accident. Wings sign Kovie on 1 year mega deal. Oh wishful thinking.

    The person below me game...

Just my ex wife The person below me gets 'cauliflower ear', when they spend to long on the phone.

Well, I never expected the decision to take even this long of time (although its been only a few days,) I hope it doesn't drag on too much longer. Sure he has to decide if he wants to play another season, and I guess its a hard decision for him, but from my low income point of view it looks simple, either dont play and make nothing or play and make another million dollars and possibly win another Cup. I know Holland is gonna give him whatever time he wants, but Mike, just sign it, please, or come out and say you're retiring. Just make a decision so the entire Red Wings nation can exhale...

No, our 3rd line in 2002 was the Grind Line.

So we are assuming that if Franzen hadn't touched the puck, Datsyuk still would have got it and made something happen? Interesting logic. Mule earned every point he got.

Mule was pretty good, but not the best by far. It was only his preformance in the last 2 games that even moved him ahead of Filppula into 3rd best forward on the team IMO. He had a third of his points in one game, and at least half the remaining points were less 'making plays' than 'touching the puck prior to Pavel making something happen'.

    Brett Lebda signs with Toronto

Did you all listen to the radio interview? At the start he makes it clear the Wings really didn't push for his services, they asked but other then that he knew they did not want him. Also the way he sounds in the interview is a respectable tone. George Malik just twisted the interesting words and used them against Lebda. I am not a fan of Lebda in any way (I called Toronto suckers for paying him that much) but lets bash him for telling the truth. There was no room for him and he wanted to play more. He got way more then Detroit would ever give him so I cannot blame him for going to Toronto.

The Latest On Detroit's #6 Defensemen

I don't like the idea of Ericsson being the vet on any pairing, I think it will hurt his development as well as the other member of the pairing. A Hnidy or McKee adds a vet presence and a very solid D man, plus Hnidy is a tough SOB! Let Smith play the year in GR, IMO!

    Jard Boll

If we're giving up Ritola as well, we better get a LOT more than just Boll in return... Miller for Boll straight up would be an even trade... Lets not overvalue Boll just because he'll drop the mitts, he'd be a nice addition here, but Ritola has a LOT of potential and shouldn't be written off as just being an extra piece, also keep in mind that he is only 23 and will only get better...

In retrospect, I'm really happy my wife thought Franzen was my favorite player and bought me his jersey when really, Zetts was my favorite.

Has Ilitch ever spoken about his reasoning of not hanging #6? I never understood the logic behind it.

Followed by Crosby, Zetterberg, and "you're not good enough for the Olympics/ former LGW whipping boy" Samuelsson. Love it. Note: Minimum of 12 games, so Lang doesn't qualify. Other Wings on the list: #3 Hank #8 Lids #9 Raffi #14 Pavel 36 Tuzzi

    The Bottom Six and Modano

Nope, you're thinking of 2009 when we lost. Hudler played on the 4th line in 2008 with Helm and McCarty/Maltby. Flip played with Franzen and Sammy that year on the 2nd line. The 3rd line was Cleary, Draper and Drake.
