The whole thing is a joke! None of these will make the game better. Way to use the old noodle boys!

    Wings sign Ruslan Salei

Seriously.. Lilja, who won't fight anymore and would demande TWICE the salary of Salei's... Atleast I know who I'm prefering.

How come Ritola doesn't own up the ahl?... he could have been a full time wing by now had he done that...

According to the Detroit Free Press Mike Modano WILL be signing with the wings! This gives us unparalleled depth for our first three lines and I just can't wait to see him score in red and white on Turco in a Blackhawks uniform! http://www.freep.com/article/20100802/SPORTS05/100802064/1319/Mike-Modano-will-sign-with-the-Red-Wings

With all due respect to Probert, its been over 15 years since he played for Detroit and with Chelios and May wearing #24 I wouldn't have a problem if Salei did.

NHL testing new rules and rink modifications

You could have two lines the perfect distance as a game puck, and it would help. Mostly for video replay and confirmation due to the many angles a puck can take.

Would be nice with a couple of third rounds for them, having all picks + extra two third rounders and an extra 5th rounder for 2011 draft.

    * Verification goal line (additional line situated behind the goal line); I cant be the only one who finds this absurd can I? There already is a line there to tell you if it went over!

Realistically, as long as Kenny wants to stand pat at the deadline, Detroit could even pay both Modo's and Salei's bonuses with this years' cap money. Let's say Abdelkader gets an equal deal to that of Helm (which I feel is slightly overestimating it rather than under) at a Cap-hit of $912,500. That's puts the Wings at a current Cap Payroll of $60,300,377 (or Cap Space of -$900,377). Given both Miller's and Meech's salary are removed (either through waivers or trade) Kenny then has $249,623 in Cap Space remaining for injury call-ups. Granted its half of what he was looking for but as long as the Wings stay relatively healthy, the call-ups shouldn't take away too much of that cap space. Even if it chews up the entire almost $250k, all of a sudden the Wings have zero carry-over bonuses next year (which wouldn't be the worse thing to begin with give the current state of the team for 2011/2012). Now, if Kenny really wants to go for broke, he could choose to apply the bonuses to next year's team and literally add a player with a cap hit of roughly $4 million at the deadline to put the team over the top if he feels its necessary. No matter how you slice it, Kenny's assembled an incredible team with the Cap Space he's had and barring an epic meltdown of Howard, there's no reason to think this season won't be great for Wings fans.

If he can stay healthy and contribute on the PK he will be worth more than his 750k... He's a cheap role player signed on for a single season... there really isn't anything to dislike about this signing. If he doesn't work out, so what? Throw him on waivers and park him in GR, we have depth at D.

Geez did ANYONE on this board watch Salei play in the olympics? This guy was a BEAST playing almost 30 minutes a night as Belarus' number 1 defenseman. He played on the PK and PP and played against the other teams' top guys. He's older and won't be around in the NHL for more than a few more years, but this is a great signing for a short-term 6th defenseman for cheap.

I mean he did play 70 games the year before last. How many guys on our team played 70 games last year? I think it's a solid signing. I think signing Mitchell wasn't ever going to happen, even though he had us in his top 4.

Yeah but Lils wanted quite a bit more money and also more playing time and Mitchell was likely always too expensive.

wow, didn't realize he only played in 14 games last year. Hopefully he is well rested, healed, and ready to go. Don't mind this signing, good defensively, finished checks, plays with and edge. in 08-09 had 107 hits and 143 blocked shots in 70 games. should fit in well.

Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Salei/Kindl/Janik/Smith (Good bye Meechy) (Ericsson has the 5th spot locked up right? according to kenny etc?) Salei is probably the guy for the 6th but he will probably get injured and then Kindl/Janik/ or maybe even Smith take his spot.

I'm officially approving. Complements Ericss. Basically good for the money. It does not hurt the team.

Wait a minute, so the Wings sign Modano, then sign the guy who was suspended for crushing his face into the boards?

    Willie Mitchell

Well the nucks are still trying to re-sign him so he's not really a reject, and yeah youre right we don't need an extremely smart and physical defensive defenseman

Millers only argument for being on this team is his PK ability which while solid, he is not as good as Helm or Eaves. Now with Abdelkader coming into the lineup, Babcock stated he would be starting the year on the PK. Miller is being replaced by Abdelkader on the PK which by Abby's ability in GR I am completely fine with. Miller is not physical, he's a beanpole that cannot hit effectively. He had a career year last year and now his stock is as high as we can hope for so yeah trade him first, and if a nice deal for a good defenseman comes up we have a few trade possibilities. If the other team wants young talent send them Ritola and Meech or we can trade Miller and Meech or Ritola ad Miller.

I tend to shy away from taking NHL information from ESPN, especially figures that are controversial to begin with, such as attendance.

    Wings offer Aaron Downey Tryout?

Williams at least provided an incredibly easy scapegoat.
