    Worst call yet?

It shouldn't be Hunter's fault that Meszaros is a *****.

The product on the ice today is WAY better than the early 90's... the obstruction was ridiculous and the game was SOOOOO much slower... I'd take fast paced, end to end play with big hits, and exciting plays over clutching/grabbing all game and a fight every 3 minutes... I hate Bettman as well and they have DEFINITELY tweaked several things too far and things that didn't need to be, but let's not act like the early 90's was the way hockey should be played, because THEN it was bulls***...

Mattias Ritola scores first NHL goal

But Miller has proven at the very least he's been a contributer on a Stanley Cup contending team. And he outworked Ritola in training camp. Ritola would have an incredibly hard time trying to secure a scoring future for the Red Wings, he was battling for a pk role and Miller was better. Ritola might turn out to be a better scorer, but I really doubt he will be a better pker/4th liner this year. It's the salary cap era, you are going to lose decent players, especially when the Wings are as deep as they are. I just don't see how Ritola's offensive upside is more important than Miller's defensive upside that's he already proven many times at the NHL level. Not to mention Miller had comparable numbers to Ritola in the AHL, I don't get why you think Ritola has a higher upside offensively than Miller anyways.

Briere is a dirty player, just this season finally more and more people are starting to realize it. It was clear as night and day what he was doing.

    Daniel Briere: Suspended Three Games

I would take that slower pace game and have greater more respectable profiles in the game, tougher players, more fighting than this crap... the most ridiculous thing now though is the interference penalties, that's really f***ed up, you can't even bump a player 0.5sec after he dumped the puck basically...

    Daniel Briere: Suspended Three Games

I remember the good ol 90's where you could hook people, headshot people, linebrawls every other game, no stupid instigator, more tougher skilled enforcers, this is all bulls***. I hate you Gary Bettman.

I believe the suspension is fine... His intent was to get hit him hard and high, and i believe a lot of opinions would be different if there was an injury. If Briere caught him in the face and he busted up his nose or took out some teeth then there would be a problem. The NHL finally did something right and suspended on the act not the result. I have read a lot of people on these boards commenting about how many suspensions are only related to the injury and that is a flawed system and I completely agree. If a player goes to lay his stick across the chin of his opponent but misses it should be less then the guy that goes to do the same thing and connects. I for once applaud the league for this suspension, but before I give them too much credit that was a bad call i believe on Hunter. The Hunter call was exactly like the Kronwall on Havlat hit (I'm not saying the kind of hit im saying the result). Kronwall got a 5 and a game for the hit because of the INJURY and that is exactly what Hunter got. Thats just my two cents.

I really hate this board sometimes... you need to break some eggs to make an omelet - we are 6-2-1 and off to a great start, but some posters here just want to look at the negatives... how horrible a life that must be to be such an eternal pessimist... Would I have liked to keep Ritola and let him develop more? yes, but what needed to be done, was done. period. Just root for him in TB and accept that Holland and co. made a tough decision that needed to be made.

Mattias Ritola scores first NHL goal

Lol a lemon? He's a 22yr old 6'3" blazing fast young player scoring goals for his team as we speak. I wish all lemons were like that.

Ritola isn't going to ever be a high octane offensive player. He's an all around solid player that is tenacious to play against. Unfortunately for him, he blew his chance to crack the line up when he was injured (or sick - can't remember the dilemma) during pre-season. He never really had his shot due to an unfortunate chain of events. This isn't about Leino who is only effective if he's putting up numbers. Ritola isn't that type of player. He's virtually a Filppula 2.0; someone who would help make that 3rd minus's not be so bad. He's strong on the puck and sees the ice well. I was excited to see how well he would have meshed with Cleary and Hudler because the kid has eyes on the back of his head and can hold on to the puck like Flip and Dats for to make a smart pass. Who knows, he 'could' be the missing element on that line. But we'll never know. One thing I do know, that line would be better defensively if he was centering it. But you are right, Ritola is no Ovechkin or Crosby; he's a Filppula light.

Yeah, how dare Hudler go for guaranteed money for a short period of time and then come back. What a ******. Damn Europeans.

Ritola scored a goal. Fire Kenny. I heard Knuble scored a couple goals since the Wings released him. Another epic failure and stain on this organization.

After the announcement of Wings signing Modano, my first thought wasn't cool, a super star to center the 3rd line, it was "my god, I hope we don't have to lose Ritola".... I was honestly looking forward to seeing this kid play this year even if it was the 10th forward until he bumped someone out of the lineup (which probably would have been sooner than later). I could accept losing Miller, but I really didn't want to see Ritola being the odd man out. Before anyone jumps me for saying this, I've seen something in Ritola for a few years now. I think the kid would make a solid 3rd liner that can score 12-15 goals per year (but more of a play maker). he strong on the puck, can dangle and is tenacious like Filppula on take ways and checks. He's a genuine hard worker with great hockey sense, great puck skills, great skating and strong along the boards. I never really cared much for Quicey or Leino. Ritola was actually the guy I have been more excited about over even Helm and Abby... just because I think this kid's upside is so much higher. That said, I am happy to see Yzerman take him for his team than Ducks, Pens or Chicago getting him. I hope he does well for them and I hope to see threads pop up about the mistake Holland made waiving him instead of avoiding Modano or waiving Miller instead. Modano's contract doesn't look so good to me. I think that cap hit could have been better used in other places (injury call ups for example). That said, I am not a GM... or a hockey coach. So I have no real qualifications to know what's best for this team. Bring the cup back home where it belongs so I feel better about all this. That's all.

Lidstrom could play with a walker instead of a stick and I'd still like our chances.

I dread the day he retires. Last season wasn't his best but he was and is better than 98% of the defensemen in the league and it's debatable about the other 2% .

    Wings need a goalie

How typical. Four games into the season and already, we're throwing Ozzie under the bus and putting it in reverse. The Chicken Littles around here are getting their start earlier and earlier every year. No s***. It's embarrassing.

It's from different perspectives though. A fan to player one, vs a player to player one. Your whole argument goes against your point too, as if you truly believe this then you are no longer allowed to say things such as "lebda sucks", or critique anyone at a higher level of any faucet at life than you. This is an illogical point of view, and takes away all the observational fun that this board is meant to promote. I'm going to bookmark this thread, and save it for the next time you berate any player. Fan to Player critique is different than player to player. Have fun never being able to say a player made a bad giveaway, since I'm sure you never could have done better.

You sure seem to be making it one. I'm sorry for giving my opinion about a subject, I thought that's what this board was for. Also, I don't really think you truly understand the definition of Irony, as I never insinuated Burish is a scrub in comparison to me, but rather, a scrub in comparison to the vast majority of the league. I guess I'm not allowed to say Lebda sucks either?
