Not sure if you guys know/seen the Melo 'Im Coming Home' videos, but a lot of others have made fan made videos using the song for their own teams so I threw one together quickly. Heres to try to lighten to mood around here and get everyone ready for the playoffs the Stanley Cup is coming home!!

Maybe that's what they mean by "History will be Made". Any bets that as soon as the Penis are out of it, there'll be a "What if Sidney hadn't been concussed?" commercial?

    Wings Playoff/Cup chances?

It's always tough to give an objective and reasonable prediction while in the throes of a losing streak in which we've played terrible. That said, I haven't truly liked Detroit's chances at any point during this season. Things I believe will cause us serious trouble: 1) Howard has been terrible this year. He's won a lot of games, but many of those have come on the broad shoulders of the team's league-leading goal scoring. Howard has been prone to lapses in concentration that have led to at least 1 poor goal in nearly every one of his starts this year and he's had a very difficult time stringing together strong performances in succession. 2) Our defense has been completely exposed by two things: a) chip & chase with aggressive forecheck and b) attacking from below the goal line. Our d-men look completely lost when the opponent doesn't back off and give them room to work. Even Nick Lidstrom has been prone to coughing up the puck and making poor decisions when under duress and this is the first year I believe I've ever seen that 3) Special teams lack urgency. The powerplay has been lazy, predictable and altogether stagnant. The PP looks lost when teams take away the point option because they're trying to get too cute down low and seem completely unwilling to shoot for rebounds and dig for garbage goals. The failure on the powerplay can almost entirely be attributed to the fact that the penalty killers give up entry into the defensive zone too easily. The opposition doesn't even have to make a pass to gain entry because our defense backs down so willingly to the puck carrier. Easy entry = easy setup = free shots = bad PK. It's that simple. These are the 3 things that I believe are going to kill us in the playoffs. Playoff style hockey with high intensity and aggressive forechecking is exactly the type of type of hockey that is designed to dismantle a team that plays a soft perimeter game like the Wings have been all year.

haven't posted in ages, but thought I'd add some #s for discussion: thru March 5th, we've given up 3 or more goals in 39 out of 66 games, or roughly 60% of the time, so there's a 3 in 5 chance we'll give up 3 or more goals each time we take the ice, also: record in games of 3 or more GA: 13-19-7 record in games of 2 or fewer GA: 26-0-1 A stark contrast to say the least Can't say if McCrimmon is to blame, and I doubt he's the only problem, but he sure doesn't seem to be part of the solution, the players need a shock to their system and replacing McCrimmon may help do that, though who know if and/or when that will happen

Lidstrom a +1 for the Season

Lidstrom is the best D man in the NHL, I don't need +/- to justify that

    How many games for this?

So I guess the next time a player "accidentally" gets high-sticked...?

With the longer video, you can totally see it's an accident. Teaches the ref for getting in the middle of fights.

    Wings - Pens, 3/21/11

With all due respect this game won't be much of one. You're going to see a deep Penguins lineup --- with the likes of: Staal Neal and Kovalev. Hahah seriously though... the Wings will run through us. If we can take you to OT and grab a point i'd be stoked.

Listless. It's a damn shame to see such a talented group of players, who can easily hang in there with every team in this league, just disintegrate like this in the waning moments. They were getting a pretty dominant performance by their goalie, terrible shots were going in, and they held the flow of play for the bulk of the game. The 3rd came back to bite them in the ass big time and I could just feel it after the 3rd goal. I know it is easy to pick on players at this point but Franzen and Ericsson to me look like they have completely forgotten how to play. Ericsson in particular has just been frustrating me to no end with his dips*** giveaways and little to no use of his large frame. He is far from the biggest problem but he is currently easily replaceable out there with someone like Kindl, who also had a dips*** giveaway. Excuses are tired and done and need to be thrown the hell out and this team simply needs their hunger back. That, my friends, is a hard thing to coach and teach but I still have confidence we can turn this thing around SOMEHOW.

Babcock speaks out (in a very good way)

Seeing how this team responds in the next LA game will tell us alot of what this team is really made of. The problem is that when they show signs of being that very good hardworking dominant team that we have all come to expect, they go right back to bringing their lazy B half assed diet wings game. If this team is to do anything in the playoffs, nothing but their best game will suffice. They need to start taking the remaining games seriously heading into the playoffs. I don't care about where they finish in the standings but I do care about how they are playing going into the playoffs. They will be playing a team which has had to scrap and claw and fight their way just to get into the playoffs. So their level of play better be on par with that or it could be like 2006 all over again.

But but but, I thought everything was okay after the Los Angeles game! I knew the games immediately following that one would be letdowns, especially considering the goals given up at the end of that one. That's why I couldn't truly enjoy that win, because I knew that more garbage would be coming right up. This team's getting way too predictable, sadly.

The problem is the other teams have "their number" now and know how to play them. Come on Wings, time to change things up. Haven't you figured that out yet?????

    Abdelkader

I would argue that Zetterberg, Eaves, Stuart, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Miller are all on the same level of PKer or better than Abby, he seems to be playing very uninspired hockey lately, and I think we all expect a lot more out of him. Honestly, I see him as a 40 point a year player who can hit and kill penalties, and he just hasn't shown this as much in the last 20 games or so. I also vote sit him in favor of Miller for a few games, then let him play, see if him knowing his roster spot is not guaranteed and needs to be earned just like anyone not named Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, etc.

I still think he could use some time in the forward rotation of sitting out. Personally, I think both Miller and Draper have been better than Abdelkader. Babs must disagree because apparently Abdelkader's scoring touch is superior to our other forwards in a game with an extra attacker. That one is quite puzzling - every forward dressed last night is a better goal scorer than Abdelkader.

    Lines I'd roll at 100%

a lot of people did insinuate that it was stupid - as they do with all my line proposals, without really even taking them into consideration. and i was just making a joke man, i didn't think you'd take it so harshly. in these line threads most people have a creative little twist in their heads that they'd like to see tried out on the ice. your lines were just, the exact same lines we started the season with. obviously babcock liked them at some point too, so i'm not saying that their bad. just poking a little fun at your lack of creativity. take it easy though. i'm not looking to start an internet fight or anything. i just posted a babcock video that everyone seems to like, i make a lot of off-season threads, and some random-non-lines threads here and there as well. idk where that puts me on the LGW totem pole (nor do i care), i'd imagine pretty low, but for a beer-leaguer who just started playing hockey after college and who has loved the red wings since birth, i think i'm doing okay.
