Hey guys. I just got done reading the GDT from last night's game, and wanted to make a few comments. First off, that was obviously a great game for us Blues fans to watch. To score 10 goals against any NHL team is quite a feat, but to do it to Detroit, in Detroit nonetheless, was remarkable. I must say though, that I am rather surprised at some of the comments in the GDT thread. I never thought I would see Red Wings fans question the leadership qualities of Lidstrom, or question the toughness of Franzen. There seemed to be a ton of negativity for just 1 game. For a minute there, I thought I was reading a Blues GDT. I can understand the irrational posts after such a blowout, but you guys get a high seed in the playoffs, while we go home again. We'll trade you if you want? We have a concussed great young player that has shown no inclination that he'll be cleared to play, a very erratic goaltending tandem, players missing practices, a drunken golf cart injury that was the beginning of the end for a #1 overall, no playoffs 5 out of 6 years, and last but certainly not least, a dirt cheap payroll from an ownership that desperately wants out. This thread was only created so that you Red Wings fans can appreciate what you have. Talk to you later and good luck in the playoffs.

Thanks for the nice responses about the Blues everybody. How fun were those days in the early and mid-90's when Detroit, Chicago, and St. Louis were all good teams that hated each other in the "Chuck" Norris Division? Kocur, Probert, Grimson, Peluso, Chase, Kimble, Twist, etc... Rivalries have nearly gone the way of the dinosaur, and that is not right. Getting the Blues on a near even playing field with the Red Wings should boost the intensity. Wouldn't hurt if Detroit got a little tougher too. Red Wings have only 11 fighting majors this season, while the Blues have 72! Those numbers shocked me while I read them. It's pretty clear that teams don't have to fight to win, but it sure adds some excitement.

I believe that the bandwagon fans will leave this forum and go somewhere else. I believe that those that are counting us out of the season should just cancel their accounts and go somewhere else. What a bunch of pansies. Seriously, one bad game and everyone is hitting the panic button? Oh, and one last thing.... I believe in the Red Wings. Always have, always will.

Now that April Fool's Day is over, I should preface this with a warning. The whole "article" is utter bunk. I read this from the Boston Herald and found it to be quite interesting. Basically a high school girl is playing on the boys' team as a defenseman and is widely considered to be the best player on the team. The full article can be found here, but I quoted the parts I found interesting, and it ended up being most of the article. (Skip cute anecdotes on how he never let the children score- they had to earn it honestly.) (Skip stuff about her classes and schedule. She has a 4.0 GPA and wants to be a marine biologist.) (Skip parts about how the guys accepted her once they saw her play. Extra note: she's 6 feet tall and 190 pounds.) Now we get to the really interesting part! So, what do you think? Is this girl being scouted? Would a team actually scout a girl if she was that good? Could a girl really make it in the NHL? I say if she's got the talent, go for it. If she can't make it, then she will be cut, just like every other player. She should get the same chance, but have to live up to the same standards.

    Hopefully our problem vanishes tonight

2 points in october is 2 points. 2 points in april is 2 points. as far as i can tell, a win is 2 points and an overtime loss is 1 point. It doesnt matter at which point during the regular season that occurred. if you want to make the post season, you need points in october, november, december, january, february, march, and april. they didnt get 98 points in the first 2 months of the season and proceed to get zero during the last 3 months.

the Wings only need to win two of their last five games and then it won't matter what anyone else does as far as the division goes they can actually clinch the division tomorrow if they win both of the games this weekend beating Nashville today would eliminate them from the division race(Detroit would then have 100 points which would then be Nashville's max and Detroit would hold the tiebreaker even if Nashville won the rest) then if they beat Minnesota tomorrow too they would eliminate Chicago from the division race(Detroit would then have 102 points which is Chicago's max and Detroit would hold the tiebreaker even if Chicago won the rest) so you would say their tear to start the season has nothing to do with them being a good team?

I guess if you guys adopt the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately stance then no, they haven't been a very good team. But by the rules of the NHL's record keeping they're near the top. Anyways, all of this wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth will be settled soon enough. The ultimate arbiter of success will then separate the wheat from the chaff: the NHL playoffs.

That is because of points we built up early in the season when we were playing 10x better. We have not been playing like that team since December.

I make half the musical intros for HNIC. I definitely don't think there is a bias towards Canadian teams. It's just that a majority of teams playing on any given Hockey Night In Canada are Canadian and we generally try to include clips featuring the competing teams. My producer (MacLean) does all the narrative.

As much as I'd like to see the Leafs and the O6 teams in the East,I'd miss just as many in the West.

It's about time Johan Fedorov I mean Franzen shows up again. Lets face it he's one of the best goal scorers in the league, but he plays when he wants to much like a former wing...

Well put, Nightfall. I totally agree with you but that's the way it is unfortunately. When the sun's shining, there is really no better team or organization to root for. And I think that's where people fail to see how utterly ridiculous they sound when they sit there and blast out hyperbole and expect for others to read it with any credibility. Just stop, please. This team hasn't looked hungry enough, I'll grant all of you that. Opinions are obviously something that this forum and site are all about, and for the most part you are all the most knowledgeable and passionate Red Wings fans I have heard from. You are all better than most that seem to lead you on and make it seem like the "cool thing" to do to just unload idiotic statements in regards to this team. I realize the "realists" in here are playing it safe because they can simply say "I told you so" when the time comes for the Wings to get axed in the playoffs and they can rejoice if we advance. Nothing changes, just keep in mind that supporting a team might be tough sometimes but being a bandwagoner, well, that's reserved for crap fanbases like Chicago. Don't liken yourselves to that.
