In 2006, I watched the NBA become a joke as the Miami Heat were handed the title over Dallas by the officials. I haven't taken the outcome of an NBA game seriously since, and that was long before the Tim Donaghy scandal broke. As I've said before, I'm beginning to feel the same way about the NHL. The league clearly mindf***s officiating to death. They seem to overreact to criticism and legislate "corrective" action that swings the pendulum too far the other way. Holmstrom plays on the edge in front of the goalie? Send a video to the officials and tell them to watch him extra-closely. Stats on prominent internet hockey forums show Detroit gets an edge in penalties for/against at home? Start "evening things out" at the Joe, even if the disparity is a reflection of Detroit outplaying its opponents and forcing opponents to take more penalties.

Hey guys. I just got done reading the GDT from last night's game, and wanted to make a few comments. First off, that was obviously a great game for us Blues fans to watch. To score 10 goals against any NHL team is quite a feat, but to do it to Detroit, in Detroit nonetheless, was remarkable. I must say though, that I am rather surprised at some of the comments in the GDT thread. I never thought I would see Red Wings fans question the leadership qualities of Lidstrom, or question the toughness of Franzen. There seemed to be a ton of negativity for just 1 game. For a minute there, I thought I was reading a Blues GDT. I can understand the irrational posts after such a blowout, but you guys get a high seed in the playoffs, while we go home again. We'll trade you if you want? We have a concussed great young player that has shown no inclination that he'll be cleared to play, a very erratic goaltending tandem, players missing practices, a drunken golf cart injury that was the beginning of the end for a #1 overall, no playoffs 5 out of 6 years, and last but certainly not least, a dirt cheap payroll from an ownership that desperately wants out. This thread was only created so that you Red Wings fans can appreciate what you have. Talk to you later and good luck in the playoffs.

Thanks for the nice responses about the Blues everybody. How fun were those days in the early and mid-90's when Detroit, Chicago, and St. Louis were all good teams that hated each other in the "Chuck" Norris Division? Kocur, Probert, Grimson, Peluso, Chase, Kimble, Twist, etc... Rivalries have nearly gone the way of the dinosaur, and that is not right. Getting the Blues on a near even playing field with the Red Wings should boost the intensity. Wouldn't hurt if Detroit got a little tougher too. Red Wings have only 11 fighting majors this season, while the Blues have 72! Those numbers shocked me while I read them. It's pretty clear that teams don't have to fight to win, but it sure adds some excitement.

I believe that the bandwagon fans will leave this forum and go somewhere else. I believe that those that are counting us out of the season should just cancel their accounts and go somewhere else. What a bunch of pansies. Seriously, one bad game and everyone is hitting the panic button? Oh, and one last thing.... I believe in the Red Wings. Always have, always will.

    Hopefully our problem vanishes tonight

2 points in october is 2 points. 2 points in april is 2 points. as far as i can tell, a win is 2 points and an overtime loss is 1 point. It doesnt matter at which point during the regular season that occurred. if you want to make the post season, you need points in october, november, december, january, february, march, and april. they didnt get 98 points in the first 2 months of the season and proceed to get zero during the last 3 months.

Nashville couldnt come at a better time. And although I hope hes getting better, I'm kind of glad Datsyuk is still out because I'm anxious to see how intense the others will play. Plus if we win this, nobody can say "oh datsyuks the only thing that can save this team" it will just be a glorious Wings victory Lets go RW!! show us the team we've been waiting to see!

    Babcock Underperforming?

The fact that Babcock didn't skate their bags off today tells me that there is a big problem. This whole team including Babs don't give a flying f**K. The fans deserve a hell of a lot better then this crappy play. I am sorry but if they can't get motivated to play frickin hockey and make millions then maybe they should be on a different team. They let the heart and soul of this team (Yzerman) leave to be the GM of Tampa Bay. Kenny is a great GM but I bet things would be different if they were playing for Stevie!

Smith on the AHLs All Rookie Team

I already put this in the Griffins forum, but only like 4 of us are ever in there. Good for Smith, though. Strong offensive showing for a rookie. I'm excited for his further development next year.

    Believe

Getting your asses handed to you by one of the worst teams in the league is the rule? All right, see you next year, then. I guess I just don't understand the 'pack it in' mentality that everyone has seemingly adopted over the past few months. Every team goes through ups and downs over the course of the season and - yes - it's really frustrating to see the Wings playing poorly and struggling; but I'm not throwing in the towel on the season. What's the fun of watching or following the team if you don't have any faith in them? On my way home from the Wings / Oilers game I was listening to everyone's responses on the radio, calling in saying the win 'was nothing to be happy about' and that the Wings 'should be embarrassed' by it. I'm sorry, but they still won. Yeah, the game was frustrating because the Wings couldn't get anything past Edmonton's netminder, but it was a thrilling victory. I'm with the OP and 55fan. Have some faith, it's a lot more fun that way.
