Hmmm. Do you maybe not like this guy? Three posts in less than ten minutes. Tell us how you really feel. I'm sure all you Negative Nancys out there think this was Holland's first phone call all off-season. So, I'll leave you to your endless bitching. I am satisfied with this signing in both term and price and I think some of you may be surprised how this signing turns out.

Young man, that kinda attitude is not tolerated here.

Man I guess some people on here aren't very happy people...they complain that Holland doesn't do anything and they complain when he does something. I personally will not say how good or bad this was until they hit the ice.

    Forward lines next season?

I've never seen a dude get so defensive, you're like a zitty 14 yr old kid who's gf just broke up with him..you just set yourself up for it. Go turn on your Bieber, have a milkshake, fire up your line thread program on your Ipad and chill out.

    Wiz is a dick.

Fair Market Value..... So Wiz gets a front end loaded deal that will pay him 7 million the first year and I think its 5.5 the next 3 or something. He is saying that is fair market????? So.... he is a better defensemen than Lidstrom???? RIIIIIIGGGHHHT! Sorry Wiz, fair market for you is what Ericsson got! There is a reason Chicago shipped you out at the trade deadline the year they won the cup and then Anaheim didn't want ya! Hmmm..... Good Luck in The nations armpit!!!

It's sad when people here hope for a player on their team to do poorly just so they can rub it in everyone's face.

Playing Ericsson with anyone BUT Lidstrom is retarded.

Wow, I'm not a huge Ian White fan, but that is an absolute ******* bargain. Fantastic dollar amount there.

    What about Nabokov?

Comments like this irritate the hell out of me. Like Holland wouldn't have paid $1.5 for Vokoun in a heartbeat. Like he didn't atleast check with Vokoun's camp. I know its rocket science but do you think perhaps the fact that Vokoun would be the undisputed number 1 had anything to do with him not considering Detroit? Nevermind, lets just go on hating on Holland for making one slightly large overpayment given the market.

    Something completely unrealistic.

I can't say I know that much about White, but it doesn't seem like with his addition and Rafalski's absence that the Wings are a better team than last year. But, the critical difference, the Wings have tons and tons of cap space this year where they never normally do. They will be able to do whatever they want at the trade deadline. I have a feeling this team is still some months in the making...

    Just enjoy this everyone.

Overall I felt it was a decent first day of Free Agency for the Wings. They signed 2 forwards and 2 defensemen. No really big names but all players strong and able to play a good game here. We want a Big Name Free Agent Signing becasue we want something Big to talk about during the off-season and while signing Big Name Free Agents can be and are great players it's not always the way to go. What matters is Standings, Playoff Position and Championships. I know we had a lot of Cap Space Available but that doesn't mean we should just go blow it. If we can sign 3 or 4 players that can do the same for the price of 1 player than I'm all for that. This team doesn't really make a whole bunch of major deals early in free agency. I say we just play it by ear and see what happens. Yes I want to get the best possible players for the best possible price and whatever that means if it means signing them now or waitin to see if their prices will go down the closer we get to the season. Most improtantly IMO is doing what wee need to do to bring and Championship back to this Organzation.

REALLY? You're REALLY going to compare Holland to the team that has a payroll of 220 million dollars? Unbelievable. Anyone that has half a brain will tell you Holland is a better GM than Cashman, Cashman makes some HORRIBLE moves (AJ Burnett, Rafael Soriano, countless others).

It's crazy, Holmstrom is not a top six forward any longer. He's still good as a power play specialist. But he should not be a top six forward. There is definitely room for a quality top six forward on this team. And in my opinion there is not only room for one, but there is a NEED for one. Ken Holland has to address this. And if he doesn't he is making a huge mistake!

THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!!! False alarm: just LGW at FA day, the trade deadline, draft, or after any 2+ game losing streak...

    Wiz is a dick.

Look at what everyone got this week. Ehrhoff, the playoff's worst +/- (-13), is going to make more money next season than Crosby. Leino, Laich and Fleischmann are signed to a cap hit of 4.5 million over the next 4-6 years. Jovocop had 14pts in 50 games last season... He's 35 years old and the Panthers signed him to a 4 year contract with a 4.125 million cap hit. Brewer was very solid for the Lightning in the playoffs he actually had a significant drop in offensive production after they got him from St. Louis (2pts in his 22 games with TB compared to 14 in 54 games in St. Louis). But did he deserve 3.85 million a season for 4 years? While I'd rather have Brewer on the Wings for that price, Ericsson's numbers are virtually identical to Brewer's but E's 5 years younger and trending upwards. Brewer's numbers have declined since his peak season in 06-07. Like I said-- if we're talking about next season in isolation I'd take Brewer over Ericsson. But Brewer will be 36 when his deal ends and Ericsson will be 30. I doubt at that point E will be the worse choice. Ericsson will have to get better to justify his contract by growing as a player. However, we can safely assume he's got a better shot to grow at this point than Brewer does (who's 32, declining and has 12 NHL seasons under his belt). When word filtered out that E's contract was worth 3.25 million it felt like a punch in the gut. Now that I've looked at the signings that went down so far I don't feel quite as bad. Frigging Barker was waived by Minny and bought out after posting 5pts and a -10 in 52 games last year but he got 2.25 million from Edmonton (yeah I know he scored 40pts once in Chicago but he's obviously not that player anymore... at least he wasn't that player in Minny!). I mean s***... a 37 year old Hamrlik got 3.5 mil a year for 2 years with Washington. How much tread could he possibly have left on his tires?!? Is Hamrlik going to get 2:33 mins of pp time per game in Washington? He got 15 of his 34 points on Montreal's PP. He'll have to get comparable time on Washington's pp to replicate those numbers. This year's cap increase really messed the market up (in my opinion).

No, I want you to understand that youth doesn't magically make the team better. Apparently clear cut examples don't make any sense to you.
