You'd rather have a logo of a bucktoothed rodent set against a urine-colored backdrop? I see the jealousy against the Wings extends beyond just the on-ice stuff, eh? -

If the Wings can get away with trading one of Flip or Hudler for Semin, and not give up any top prospects or first round picks, then that's something to be considered. The Wings have several forwards who are as good or better defensively than Flip, and he is not among the team's best PKers. Flip for Semin as the only roster players doesn't harm Detroit's PK, but improves the PP. Maybe the lines could work out like this: Semin/Datsyuk/Bertuzzi Hudler/Zetterberg/Franzen Cleary/Helm/Eaves Mursak/Abdelkader/Holmstrom If it's Hudler instead of Filppula, maybe it works out like this: Semin/Datsyuk/Cleary Franzen/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Abdelkader/Filppula/Bertuzzi Mursak/Helm/Eaves -

I think the general consensus was less "go boston" and more "f*** vancouver, I hope they burn in hell". We just picked boston because most of us dislike the canucks more than we dislike the bruins. -

Holland saving $ to make a push for Weber?
sleepwalker reacted to DesertWing for a post in a topic
The Detroit Red Wings aren't expected to spend much more this offseason, not that they've committed much to the future at all. And there's good reason for that. The Detroit News' Ted Kulfman writes, "Next season's potential unrestricted free agent group is so good. Absolutely loaded, actually. While this free-agent class one had a bunch of depth players, next year's is filled with difference makers worth spending the extra millions." The Wings could make a really big splash next offseason because they have no free agents they'll have to pay huge salaries, except maybe Nicklas Lidstrom -- if he decides to come back. If he doesn't, though, there are several elite free agents they could pay with that money, including Zach Parise, Brent Burns, Patrick Sharp and -- perhaps most intriguingly -- Shea Weber. Losing both Brian Rafalski this season and potentially Lidstrom next season could make them an ideal destination for the 2010-11 Norris Trophy finalist. -

I know this doesent answer the thread but it makes me want to go to a game so bad. A lot of people like to rip on the Joe for being old and stuff but I dont think there is a bad seat in the house maybe because I dont get to go to many games but just being there in Detroit is the greatest feeling in the world. Sure the bathrooms are pretty bad and if you are claustrophobic you will probably be in trouble walking out after the game but its all worth it. I can't wait for hockey. -
1 pointI agree with you that a lot of us Wings fans are going to be a little bias, and pick our main man Pavel.... But I don't think the stats that you are throwing at us are the only one's that matter... Sure, goals and assists are damn important but that's not what Datsyuk is all about, he brings so much more to the table in my opinion.... You pointed out many stats where Ovechkin was dominant over Datsyuk but there are also many where Datsyuk is dominant over Ovechkin... here is just one stat that I'd like to throw out there... Takeaways / Giveaways Pavel Datsyuk 2006-07 (107 / 86 = +21) 2007-08 (144 / 68 = +76) 2008-09 (89 / 50 = +39) 2009-10 (132 / 73 = +59) 2010-11 (71 / 38 = +33) Total Past 5 years = +228 Alex Ovechkin 2006-07 (67 / 95 = -28) 2007-08 (68 / 93 = -25) 2008-09 (60 / 107 = -47) 2009-10 (66 / 76 = -10) 2010-11 (48 / 59 = -11) Total Past 5 years = -121 Something else that needs to be taken in account is the fact that Pavel can and does play in ALL situations... Datsyuk plays even strength, power-play, penalty kill, and the last minute of every game when his team is up OR down a goal, whereas Ovechkin plays even strength, power-play and when his team is down a goal (basically just in offensive situations) Ovechkin is a much more of an explosive offensive threat but Datsuk is much, much better over 200 feet of the ice and I'd take a player like Pav over Ovi any day...

People getting pissed off about the Jets name need to cool their....jets. Sure the old jets are in PHX but it's a completely new franchise with no association to the past jets. Its like saying if your house burns down; you can't buy one; you have to build you own. I mean; its not your history in that house. When you buy a used car you must always refer to it as "Billy Gilmans" car since that's who owned it first and put all these miles on it. The city of Winnipeg owns the history. Clearly the people in PHX don't give two s***s about the jets history when they don't even care about their own team enough to fill the seats. Where did Selanne score all of his goals? Was a single one scored in PHX, AZ? No; so why should that city have the rights to own that history? It happened on WPG soil and needs to stay there. Everyone bitching needs to shut it and think about it for a sec. The love and joy the Jets brought so many people doesn't live on in a desert in the US. It lives on in Canada; in Winnipeg. Congrats to TNSE for listening to what the fans, players and even retired jets wanted. -

Red Wings on Twitter
WizardOfOz30 reacted to Majsheppard for a post in a topic
I want to touch on this quick. Twitter is great for getting and giving info. For players, this means only a few things. You can try and promote other things you are doing, which most fans could care less about. You can respond to what is happening in your sport, which can get you into huge trouble and make you look foolish. You can respond to fans to make them feel important, which has little payout and can get you into huge trouble and make you look foolish. You can have an account and do nothing with it, and it may eventually get hacked leading you into huge trouble and make you look foolish. Or you can not have one, and the world moves on. I am not against them having twitter, but honestly there isn't much benefit to it for players, coaches, GMs, etc. It is great for marketing, journalists, comedians, and similar types. Take Hank for example... He has a clothing line, a superstar status, a hot wife... His tweets would be boring like. Congrats to my wife for landing this gig. Hey we have a new shirt for sale on the website. Hey congrats to Pavel for his 100th point of the season. Not too exciting... -
