    Jonathan Ericsson Watch Thread

Whether anyone wants to acknoledge it or not, Ericsson has looked pretty damn solid. And he's getting his shot off quicker, and jumping up in the play with confidence. If not for good goaltending E would have a couple 3 goals already this season.

    Crosby coming back

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've noticed that since Crosby's return, the stores are more crowded and it gets dark earlier. On the flip side, people seem to be adding lights to their homes that are quite festive. Oh, the power of Sidney.

Say Goodbye to the C, Z.

The "C" isn't just about the being the best player on the team, it's also about the most capable to lead and unfortunately for Pasha, the language barrier HAS to factor in there as well for communicating with refs, press events, team meetings, etc... when the unthinkable happens, the new captain will STILL be Z and if it's not, there's a better chance it would be Kronwall than Dats...

    Crosby coming back

a 14 page thread mostly about how Crosby gets too much attention.

Good thing he's a defenseman. Seriously, if that's your knock against Ericsson, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to ***** about. I mean, he may not be Kyle Quincey, but he's not as bad as you make him out to be. Who has ever argued that? He's got a good first pass, but he's not an offensive defenseman.

Really nice to see Z racking up some points. When the twins are rolling we become a really hard team to stop.

    Crosby coming back

http://paranoidpuck.wordpress.com/2011/11/23/sids-return-draws-disappointing-numbers-on-versus/ The backlash is palpable but the league just doesn't learn. Promoting a player is one thing; that's good. But what they're doing with this guy is cartoonish. They don't get it, and I suspect they never will.

    Crosby coming back

Nothing like padding stats against two bottom feeder teams. Plays well in a blow out game, actually contributed in only one goal with a nice assist, the other two were secondary assists of the most fortunate variety. He has played well and all, but hardly something outrageous, the hockey world is back on his jock all over again. Same old, same old. Look on TSN.ca and they are touting his performance as "playmaker and agitator", HA. As per the usual, the kid is, well, a kid. Lays a few two, three crosschecks first, someone pushes back, and he tosses a pretty blatant elbow, then steps out and lets Kunitz deal with the fall out. Why does the hockey world have to drop to its knee for such a little puke? Why does one of the most talented/the most promoted star in the game have to be such a doucher? Home games, lopsided victories and two teams in the toilet. One game against a halfway decent team and he ends up in the box three times, no points, and a Pens loss. Not knocking his stats per se, but rather the league falling back into its same old ways, a few good months without the endless Crosby talk and now its back in full gear. Disappointing and undeserving for such a little turd. Long overdue that the league's poster boy and Bettman's favorite punk nephew grows up and starts properly filling the former role instead of the latter. Haven't heard the kid's comments when or if he was asked about the elbow, but I can picture the same personality-less, monotone, pouty blank response. "When I said I wanted headshots out of the game, I meant hits to MY head". Tool.

According to who? Ericsson has never scored 40 points in his career, let alone doing it in the NHL. He's a converted forward, but I've not heard or seen any real expectations of him to be an offensive producer for the Wings. His potential is to be a big physical puck moving defenseman who can kill penalties and clear the crease. Ideally sort of like Stuart but with a better first pass.

She should have walked faster. If she had walked faster, she'd have gotten to the groceries that made it to the other side.

Hudler has been pretty solid defensively if you would actually pay attention. He backchecks as hard as anyone, and in the Anaheim game he fought through two players to clear the puck. He's been very good on the PP, keeping the puck in the zone and setting up plays better than just about anyone the Wings have put out there. He had no chance on the Richards goal; look to Kronwall and Cleary for the issues on that play. As for his versatility... Hudler is probably one of a handful (at most) of players on the team capable of player center, both wings, and defense. I would call that versatile.

    Jonathan Ericsson Watch Thread

That's exactly what it will be, which is almost certainly why you created it. I guess it's easier just to be negative than be optimistic. And on the play you mention, Hudler, Helm and Smith did a poor job covering their assignments and got outworked or outmuscled. Yet you key in on Ericsson, who was actually moving to the slot to cover Desjardins and Murray after he went over to help Helm. Ericsson is overpaid and likely won't earn his contract, but if you're going to rip on his play, that goal is a poor choice because he's about 4th in line for being responsible. Edited because I couldn't spell Desjardins.
