    Time for my Cleary update.

The OP doesn't understand roles in hockey apparently.... he's been told by Babs to play a grinding 3rd line role, he's out there to finish checks and wear down defense, he's not trying to score goals but will certainly accept them as they come. First priority is to play your role, and right now Cleary's role is not to be a scoring forward. So stop hating on him.

    Time for my Cleary update.

Cleary has the kinda heart you need in the playoffs, could care less what he does in the regular season.

The mascot shot that guy directly in the eye. His reaction was perfectly understandable. If I were in his shoes, my vision may just have gotten blurry in that eye, but not so blurry that I can't read the word "attorney" in the Yellow Pages.

    Does the NHL suspend Toews?

Puck Daddy Will the NHL follow suit as they did to Lidstrom and Datsyuk?

    1/23 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 3

Ok I got all I could do tonight. I have everything but the hits (minus Stuart) and that call wingfan13 wanted. I should have those up tomorrow if everything goes as planned. All the videos that I did tonight should be up in the playlist now. I'll check back tomorrow to see if anyone requests anything else.

What the heck? What kind of a person has problems with Cleary?? That's like saying you don't like good hockey.

^^^ More or less how I remember events. The "had to miss a game to prove injury excuse" was bulls*** anyways because Pavel was injured in the third period of the Wings' last game before the break, against Phoenix. He missed most of the third period when it was close (can't remember if it was tied or one goal difference) which is all the proof necessary. It's not like they would have benched him and risked the two points (which, in his absence, they didn't get anyways) just so he could duck the ASG. It was stupid politics and the guys that made that decision deserved to be slapped. Worse still, that Crosby was being held up as an example when the only other thing he had to do that weekend was play Xbox in Mario's basement, as opposed to Pav and Nick, two grown ass men with families and vacation plans already made.

    Does the NHL suspend Toews?

From what I remember of the Lidstrom/Datsyuk controversy, the rule at the time stated that a player had to miss either the game before or the game after the All-Star game if the player decides to not play in the All-Star game. As far as I knew, Lidstrom and Datsyuk (and Holland) were willing to sit out the game after the All-Star events. Then, Crosby announced that he was going to miss the All-Star activities due to an injury. The league then proceeded to change the rule so that you only had to attend the All-Star festivities to avoid a suspension by the league, a change that allowed Crosby to still attend the pomp and circumstances of the All-Star events, but not play in the actual game, so he escaped suspension. However, by the time the "reinterpretation" of the rule was announced, Datsyuk and Lidstrom were already out of the country and, thus, would not be able to attend the festivities. To recap: 1) rule originally was "had to play in the ASG or skip game before/after or get suspended", 2) Datsyuk and Lidstrom announced they were skipping the ASG and will miss the game after, 3) Crosby announced he would skip the ASG, 4) rule suddenly reinterpreted as "had to attend AS festivities or skip game before/after or get suspended", 5) rule reinterpretation came too late for Datsyuk and Lidstrom, who were out of the country and unavailable, 6) Crosby was able to attend the festivities and avoid suspension/missing the next game, 7) Datsyuk and Lidstrom were forced to sit the game after the ASG, thus the s*** fit on LGW. As far as I know, the rule is still "attend festivities or sit a game", unless they changed the rule again. However, as Toews will be missing the game before the ASG, he would not be suspended under any of the two interpretation of the rule.

    Time for my Cleary update.

Honestly, outside of Ericsson, you'd be hard pressed to convince the majority here that we should trade anybody. I'll give the same answer I give with Filppula and Franzen. It all depends on whether the right deal is presented. Cleary is not untouchable, but it's doubtful he has a high trade value, unlike those players or even Hudler.

I agree on all points, except your opinion of Don't Stop Believing. I wasn't big on it myself, but after singing along live at the end of game 7 versus the Ducks a few years ago, I wouldn't want to hear any other song played just before a win.

Props to the DJ at the Joe

I do love the classic feel of the songs at the Joe. "I guess that's why they call it the Blues" last night was awesome. The timeless BJ Piano Man "It's 9 o'clock on a Saturday.." snippet played each time there is a game on Saturday is great. I throughly enjoy the fact that the Joe does not have a goal song, but instead "ABC" for 3 goals scored and beginning of "Matter of Trust" for 4 goals scored. I'm also not so sure of anywhere else that routinely plays "The Good Ol Hockey Game" and "I Wanna Drive the Zamboni." That all being said, am I the only one who wants Don't Stop Believin' to die? Not just at the Joe, all Detroit sporting events. Its time is done. It was cool for a while. Not it's just awful. Where is South Detroit? That's right, Windsor. I used to like Don't Stop Believin' when I was growing up, and now its overplay and national promotion through Glee and other avenues has basically ruined it for me. Great song, just keep it away from my home team's sports stadiums. Even Rick Perry from Journey knows he blew it. My link On an overall standpoint though, yes. Good job JLA Music Crew.

    Time for my Cleary update.

Would I mind seeing Cleary get traded? Not at all, given the right circumstances i.e. a serious upgrade. Say maybe in a package deal to NJ for Parise. For a gritty, older "Dallas Drake" style player capable of upping their physical game in the playoffs? We have one of those right now & his name is Dan Cleary. Regardless, if the Wings traded him, who would answer the phones at the Red Wings residence?

lol I just read some posts from letsgoblues. Wow, they are delusional... pulling out the 'Dead Wings/Things' name. Really? We've been to the playoffs 21 straight years I believe? Won 4 cups during that span and made the finals 5 times. What the f*** have they done? I'll tell you what they did do, they watched Pronger miss a hit on Stevie Y and separate his shoulder in the process. They watched Stevie Y score in double ot of game 7. Blues fans, f*** off. Your team is little brother, we're big brother. s*** isn't going to change, and when Franzen, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg are gone we'll have more core players to own you for the 3rd decade in a row. /Endrant

    What's wrong with Abdelkader?

The problem with Abdelkader is he is not good enough to play in the NHL. Not on this team anyways. If the waiver situation was reversed, we would be seeing Nyquist, and Tatar instead of Emmerton and Abdelkader. Abby got most of his points and that big +/- playing with Cleary at the beginning of last season when Danny was scoring every time he shot the puck. It drives me nuts that he get preferential treatment from Babcock because of his size. Anyways, I agree with everyone about the lack of depth at centre being the bigger problem. In previous years, the Wings have had plenty of depth at centre, but now that Draper is gone and Filppula is playing wing, we've found ourselves with a serious hole up the middle. We need to acquire a Nhl caliber centreman. If he's better than Helm and can take the 3rd line spot, Great! but if not, I'd be happy with any step up from Emmerton. With a good enough centre I think Abdelkader can be a serviceable 4th line winger, sort of a "Mcarty light" type guy.

Not defending the attack on the mascot but...Silly string is NOT something you want sprayed in your eye. The evaproating propelant can cause frostbite and the solvent is flamable as it come out of the can. In addition, the stuff is a skin irritant, and people can have allergic reactions to it. What the mascot did could be considered battery.

    Filppula is "too nice".

Z and Mule need to show the same effort and hustle as Valterri and Pavel
