    Z The Beast

We all know the horrific start that Z had to start the season...and we all know how much of a beast he's been lately. After his 4 point night, I wanted to know how many points he had since his first multi point game of the year. Here's some feel good stats for you number guys: Current totals: (As of 27 Mar 12) 76 games - 21 goals, 45 assists, 66 points, +16 Up until 19 Nov 11 18 games - 3 goals, 4 assists, 7 points, -1 20 Nov 11 on...after first multi-point game 58 games, 18 goals, 41 assists, 59 points, +17 For all those who feared Z was on a decline, he's playing as good as he ever has currently and he's looking pretty fired up going into the playoffs. Assuming the Wings take 4th in the West and with guys coming back from injuries, with a full line up the Wings will be very dangerous in the playoffs. Our D is playing better again after the s*** stretch and Z has been Dats like picking pockets and has been nasty on the forecheck stealing the puck off guys. Assuming we get Helm back in or around the first round, I think the Wings have a shot as much as anyone.

Dude, I'm really trying not to be a dick here but sometime I have to wonder where you get this stuff. 1. Nyquist will not play in the top six over Filppula next season. 2. Barring injury, Smith will not be on the top two defensive pairings at all next season. 3. The team will resign Quincey. 4. Detroit will not sign Suter AND Parise if Lidstrom doesn't retire (in fact, they probably won't sign both of them anyway). 4. Helm and Miller (who's coming off a career season) are not going to get demoted after working themselves into bigger roles. 5. Where's Cleary, since when did the Wings just start trading good team guys and locker room leaders for nothing? I hope this is just some sort of strange wish list, and not that you actually think any of this is realistic?

I don't think remaining cap space is Holland's primary criteria when considering acquisitions. If that were the case, we'd have probably shelled out the cash for Jagr this off-season. I really think for Holland, it's more about value -- Am I getting what I paid for? Pretty much every move he makes is a steal, because, well, those are the only moves he cares to make. To this end, I really don't see Holland moving on a Parise or Suter this off-season. While they are likely amongst the best players available, the media salivating over them and the way GMs blow cap space these days pretty much ensures they won't be a good value. Of course, there is always some chance -- perhaps Parise really wants to play in Detroit. I can't believe the hype that surrounded Paul fricken Gaustad on deadline day.

Sentell you've been here for all of 12 posts and you have a better understanding of how to post pics than I do.

    Quincey vs. Stuart

If it was possible, the Wings would keep Stuart indefinitely. He's been a rock. If Stuart could get his family to migrate to Detroit, Stuart by all accounts would love to stay with this team and continue to enjoy high-level teammates and stability in a franchise second-to-none in how they treat their personnel. Unfortunately, it looks like the stars won't be aligning for the Wings and Stuart. It really is a shame. Completely understandable, but its gonna sting for both parties to end a great working relationship. I'd hate to be Stuart having regrets watching the Wings excel when he ends up in LA or San Jose.

Well, first and foremost let's hope Lidstrom will go one more year. If he doesn't, then I think it's almost a certainty that Stuart will be re-signed. I know Brad wants to be with his family in California, but with the cap space we have I'm sure Holland will offer him more $ than any of the Cali teams. And the Red Wings 'playoff guarantee' year after year should also help sway his decision. Plus, the deal would likely be only 2-3 years tops, then he can go back to Cali. I don't think it's really a question of Stuart or Quincey. From what I've heard Holland is definitely sticking with Quincey for the next few years. So it really just comes down to what Lidstrom does, and how much space we have. If Lidstrom does play for one more year (please hockey Gods let it happen), we still have a chance to sign Stuart, but we might not be able to overpay for him. If that happens let's just hope his desire to win more Stanley cups outweighs spending a few more months with his family for just a few more seasons.

I don't think that is true... He has always said he wants to come back just the big family issue back in cali might force him to move back closer to home... There is no doubt Stuart would re-sign with the wings if he got the "OK" from his family, which sadly I don't think will happen

Doesn't sound like Stuart wants to come back, but if he can be had, we should sign them both.

Ovechkin hasn't scored many points this season either. That doesn't mean he's not miles above Erik Cole. You can't just look at stats and say this guy is only 10 points better than that guy. Parise in my book is one of the 10 best players in hockey. Especially when you put him on a line with a Datsyuk potentially. He plays harder than a Franzen or Hudler do on a nightly basis. And we don't have All stars at each position. Far from it. Also, Holmstrom, Bertuzzi and Cleary are old and none will likely be around in two seasons. If you get a chance to obtain a superstar winger for big money, and you have the cap space with Lidstrom and Stuart potentially leaving, then you have to pull the trigger. Holland didn't spend money in the offseason nor at the deadline. What's the point of keeping all this cap space around? I thought he was doing it for a Parise or Suter.

    JUCK UCKING POTT!

Wait... how many goals were allowed the last two games?!?!? Oh, and were either of those teams playoff teams? Not to be the downer, but this doesn't mean anything but a bit more confidence. Hold off until they play Nashville before you make a judgement.

Detroit or Vancouver? Which team will go further/ and who will win in a series between them. I am a hardcore Wing fan but I am going to try not to be Bias. I think its safe to say Detroit would win in a series between these two. Canucks could go further but Detroit also could. Opinions?????

I quite enjoy the picture posts. And your asking relative questions and not being a troll, keep er going As far as the question, I'd say Detroit. Vancouver may get a more favorable match-up, and are tougher then last year but I don't see them going as deep this year.

Both Suter and Parise are going to want at least 7 million apiece. And that's before Glen Sather's stupid ass bids them up even higher.

    Nyquist needs to stay here

7 games in the recent call up, 6 points while creating numerous chances for his linemates and himself. Soon has he gets the killer instinct (which granted, took Filppula about 5 seasons to learn), he'll really be sparking offense. I'd personally like him to continue to play with Bert and Datsyuk, but I have no doubt F(loat)zen be back on that line come Wednesday. I also like the idea of resting Cleary the remaining games if possible. He hasn't been bad the last few games, but if he is bothered that much by injury it'd be better he bow-out for a few.

Nothing is guaranteed, key injuries, Fleury getting tired or sloppy D could cause problems. And if the Pens have to face the Flyers in the first round they will make life miserable.

It is situations culminated together like this that can win or lose a serious for you, regardless of talent. Look at the 1996 Wings. The 2009 Sharks. The 2009 Wings for f***s sake. Anything goes in the playoffs and anyone has a chance to beat anyone. I don't care how good the Penguins are right now. They will never be the lock to win the cup until they win the deciding game in the Cup Finals.
