Who's going to make it big if anyone?

Ya, because he won the Conn Smythe and everything...You can throw it away if Zetterberg or Datsyuk or even Osgood weren't there...along with throwing away all of Franzen's goals.

Who's going to make it big if anyone?

Yes, 1 great post season. but hey, we get to watch and remember that for 8 more seasons...... length of the terrible contract he is signed to........

Who's going to make it big if anyone?

Smith has the best shot. he could end up as high as a #2 or never make it. Sheahan will be a 4th line checking guy, Nyquist-who knows. yes he has talent, but he is also only about 175 pounds. Tatar is not really a legit NHL player, and the rest are still in juniors. No way anyone can tell on them.

Minnesota gets brought up among potential suitors. They will make a substantial offer. There's a good chance they land him IMO.

When you say "elite", I think of star players, as in Datsyuk or Zetterberg. Based on that, the safe answer is none.

Please explain to me Bertuzzi's "large" contract.

20 mil what? A year? And 7 million isn't such a discount. They are perhaps leaving a few million off the table to play together and for a team with a history of winning and a group of guys who know what it takes to win. You don't get that from many other clubs.

    The truth of our decline.

If it is so painstaking then why do you continue I click the links and post in the threads? You are right "we can't win every year." I am not sure anyone would argue this OBVIOUS point. But you can strive to improve every year, use our money to sign free agents, use players, picks to trade for players, etc to make the team better. The Wings have not done this the past 3 years and it's the cause of that some people get frusterated.

    Chances of landing Parise?

Whoa, hang on there...Edmonton? That's like saying Parise and/or Suter could wind up in the KHL next year.

    2012 Lockout Watch

This guy Donald Fehr knows exactly what he wants though, he's well past that learning curve: - money: "A salary of $3 million per year to run through completion of collective bargaining after the current CBA expires following the 2011-12 season." - money: "A salary of $1.5 million for the remainder of this year." - money for his little brother: "Approval to hire his brother, Steve, who is currently special counsel to the MLBPA (after 23 years as outside counsel), to an executive position." - end even more money in the future: "Permission to co-author a book about baseball with Steve.", "Permission to open a consulting firm, though with the express stipulation that his first priority at all times will be the NHLPA." i have to admit among his demands were a few hockey/players related. that's all so typical for union leaders. source: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/jim_kelley/09/09/Don.Fehr/index.html fixed it for you.

    Chances of landing Parise?

Holland can give him 10mil because he's one of only a small group of GMs who have owners that are willing to pay out on huge long term contracts AND has more than enough cap room to do so , all while being able to offer an environment that NHLPA polls indicates is highly desirable to players around the league. (and no, I don't care that cougar denies the results of said poll) Yes there are 30 teams who will want to take a run at Parise but only a handful have a realistic shot of landing him unless he's only looking for a short term deal or isn't interested in winning. I don't thing we have Parise locked down but the Wings are in a better position than most teams. Not signing him would cause a great deal of drama online but it's not like we'd be losing out on a generational talent. There are plenty of ways to improve the team outside of the 2012 UFAs.

    Chances of landing Parise?

I honestly don't see the connection there. Bringing Holmstrom back isn't going to prevent the Red Wings from pursuing Parise. Granted, I prefer Holmstrom retire too, but his contact will be minimal if he does return.

    Chances of landing Parise?

I don't see any available defencemen who are comparable to Suter. He has Norris Trophy-type skills at both ends of the rink. Wideman et al will never contend for that trophy. Those guys are OK but not impact players, IMO.
