George McPhee would be pretty stupid to say the least if he was to accept an offer like that, taking on that contract. Also in the opposite side of things I think we would be stupid to do that as well. I don't think Franzen's stock is all that high but to basically give him to the Caps for Semin (Who I doubt we would retain) is just idiotic. Plain and simple, its bad both ways you look at it.

I don't see this trade helping either team that much. Franzen is a lazy idiot, but trading him is stupid unless we get an offensive scorer going the other way. What if we don't get Parise? Then we'll have even less reliable scoring at forward than before. And Washington would be trading their best offensive defenseman for Kindl?

Saw this speculation somewhere(Malik report,me thinks)and to be honest I'd trade Franzen for Laich. Laich might never reach 30 goals per season, but he's very versatile forward who can play both winger and center, and is capable to play on scoring or checking line and PP and PK as well. He's a type of player we've been missing the recent Playoffs. And Helm's gonna be a Wing for life...mark it

It's amazing the difference in the class act that Nick is with something like this, compared to the classlessness of say Lebron James, who has a 1 hour show to announce where he is signing as a free agent.... Right here is why I am a Red Wings fan, because of players like him, and the class that the organization has as a whole...

Green is terrible on defense and Franzen is a 30 goal scorer at a $3.9 cap hit, I wouldn't mind a few more of those. No way should we trade Helm either. That would be like the 90's Wings trading Draper.

LOL that's funny. Most of the posts on this board are about how Holland doesn't make big deals and makes all these little minor ones like trading for Quincey, signing White and Conklin. Here we have the exact opposite. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Green is a defensive liability who has played a total of eighty-one regular season games...over the last two seasons.

Honestly, I like the THOUGHT of this trade, getting rid of a player on our team who is productive to a point, but still not working as hard as I think he should and has a huge long term contract. I watched a lot of the Caps games and Laich and Carlson stood out as tough(er), gritty players who I would like on our roster. I like Mike Green and think he will have a bounceback in our system. Washington changed from an offensive goal scoring team from a defense first team, which probably is not his forte. Put him out there with a defensive defenseman and it might cover up his deficiencies in that area a little. I feel the Wings need to do more than sign a few free agents and go a little deeper. The core is not all right. AND I DO NOT WANT HELM INVOLVED IN THAT TRADE. We need MORE Helms, not less.

Actually, with Holland's track record, there is no reason not to believe everything will okay. Is he facing a huge adversity for the first time in his GM career? Sure, but this is what he gets paid to do and he has had great success before, so until is indeed fails (which he hasn't yet) like I said, there is no reason not to believe everything will be okay... We have no first round pick this year, BUT, if Holland allows Quincey to explore his options around the NHL and he signs somewhere else, Holland will have TWO 1st round and TWO 3rd round picks in 2013. One of those 1st rounders could very well be a top 10 if Quincey signs with a bottom dweller. Which may also be used in a trade scenario, Holland could get a nice player back for a top 10 1st round pick...I realize that this is all speculation and relies on Quincey signing an offer sheet somewhere else, but with the 4 or 5 prospects that are NHL caliber, even if this doesn't happen, I still think the Wings will remain competitive... Exactly how many early round exits did the Wings have between the 1998 and 2002 Cups? 99, 00, 01...two 2nd rounds and a 1st round exit...That didn't really deter a few UFA's from coming here then. Same with 2002 to 2008...we had a couple of first round exits then. I have said it before, Detroit may not get ALL the high end UFA's available but the ones they want, they usually get. Those UFA's may not get the highest salary, but when they do sign here, they usually finish their career's here...why is that I wonder?

So we lose our top goal scorer and get what in return?

I would love to sign Parise and Suter as per planned and sign Oshie to replace Hudler at around 4 Mill. I love that kid and I always have. Holy crap this off season is either going to be the best ever or s***.

Happyto see that everyone loves the Helm. I was hoping the Mule would be involved in a trade somehow, but Im not sure Kindl is what they would want there. To lose a player like Helm or Flip (not that he was mentioned, im just sayin') would be huge, those two along with Howard, Z and Dats are untouchable imo.

Green: health issues and inconsistent Laich: were already deep at center Helm: will never be traded

What exactly could have been done better? We still have a good team, a ton of cap space, and a pretty good prospect pool. What realistic moves could we have made to put us in a better position? Filling the void left by Nick was always going to be a huge problem. Nothing we could have done, except maybe tank a few seasons to stock up on lottery picks, would have changed that. It's not like there have been a bunch of future-HoF defensemen that we passed on as UFAs. At least now we have the cap space to offer Suter top dollar, with enough left over for other improvements. We are not at all "dependent" on signing Parise. We may not have a top sniper, but we still have a top offense. Only 3 teams scored significantly more than the Wings this season. Even if we miss out on Parise and get someone like Jones instead, or even just re-sign Hudler and promote Nyquist, we should still be a very good offense. Figure out how to get the PP working again and "very good" becomes "elite". The good news is we actually have the cap space to go aggressively after several of the best UFA options. And we do have a few tradeable assets if we miss out there. Realistically, for being as good as we have been for this long and still having any chance at all of still being an elite team next year speaks volumes about just how well Kenny has been preparing for this moment.

I would trade Helm, Franzen, Kindl for Laich and Carlson, want nothing to do with Green.

Dang, my guesses on the 3 F's that he wanted to reconnect with were fanaticism, fear mongering, and Fox News.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

I was completely on the Weber bandwagon until he manhandled Hank. Even if he were a Wing and did that to a Pred, I'd still lose all respect for him. And if Hank's captain, what would Weber do to make things right? Hank can say all is forgiven, but Hank's only human; what would it take to actually work well together?

Lidstrom is the second best defenseman ever behind Orr. No way you can honestly say Yzerman is a top 5 all time forward. Also, Lidstrom's longevity puts him above Yzerman. Stevie was a solid player in his late 30's, but injuries eventually took their toll. Lidstrom was an All-Star caliber player all the way to the end. I mean, the guy won all his Norris trophies after age 30! For that, Holland deserves......

Vote for the NHL 13 cover player

While I'm okay with both Rinne and Giroux, I think Datsyuk was so fitting for this year's cover, that he is the only one who 'should' be there.
