Zach Parise
T-Ruff and 9 others reacted to Doc Holliday for a post in a topic
Why don't you describe what is going on in the opening post instead of saying "Hey, here is a link, click it and take my word for what is on it"? 25 minute mark has talking about LA rioting (or lack therof) after their cup win. Nothing about Zach Parise. 27 minute mark talking about crowds and random crap. Head coach for LA going to stay? Who knows in this radio broadcast. 28 Phil Jackson talk. Radio host says "Let's leave Parise aside for the time being". So 3 minutes after you say we should start listening they discuss Parise only to say that they aren't going to talk about it yet? Jeez, man. 30 minutes in: Leopold says nobody is going to outbid the Wild. So if Parise is going anywhere, it is for less money. The guy just assumes that Parise isn't going to be here simply because the Wild's GM is going to throw as much money as he can at him. Implying Holland can't afford to do that as well. Not bad news, just more of what we assumed would happen. -

Listen, in the Cap world, your highest paid player on your team can only make up to a certain percentage of the teams payroll...so to say that Leopold is going to offer him so much that if he goes somewhere else, he is going to have to take less is absurd. Holland (along with most other teams) has enough cap space available that they can ALL offer Parise the most money. Whatever Leopold offer's Parise it would be stupid to think that Holland could not match it, and if that amount is more than $9M, he would be stupid TO match it. For God's sake Crosby is ready to sign a contract that will pay him $9M a year, do you honestly think that Parise deserves Crosby type money? If Leopold offers Parise upwards of $10M+ then he is just sinking the NHL further into oblivion. I would HOPE, HOPE that Holland does not offer Parise $10M per year. I believe that Holland is prepared to offer up to $8M. That is it. If Parise signs anywhere outside of 5 or 6 teams that are legit contenders, for more money, he is not only an indiot, he is in it for the money and doesn't want to win. We have said all along, he may or may not end up here, he just may sign in Minnesota, but he won't be winning a Cup anytime soon if he goes there. But hey, the choice is his and he will the choice for his own needs... -

Did you know that in football the ball is only in motion about 11 mins out of every game? That seems like a lot of standing or "huddling" to me. The NHL definitely has the toughest season and the toughest playoffs. -

Nashville to trade Suter's rights?
Z Winged Dangler and one other reacted to Matt for a post in a topic
I don't think it really matters where he's traded to in the event he is prior to July 1. He can still switch hands prior to July 1 if the team he's initially traded to doesn't sign him. Personally, I think he'd be dumb to not wait until July 1st if he gets traded to another club besides Detroit. The money, term, minutes, organization and track record lines up perfectly with everything that Suter has either hinted to in the press (in terms of market, commitment to winning) or through media sources. There are plenty of indirect ways to drop Suter hints about an offer coming his way without violating any bylaws. -

Red Wings Prepared to Offer Hudler Contract
Crucial and one other reacted to ShanahanMan for a post in a topic
While he had a great year last year, it was a contract year, meaning he could go back to average old Hudler next season which is the most concerning point. -
1 pointProbably. They want to play together on a team that has a chance at the cup every year for a decent amount of money.. Sounds like we're one of the only options. Also I assume they know Howie from team USA so that might help.. I think we have pretty good chances of landing both of them. Can't wait for july 1st

1 pointIf he wants to come here, he will.. Not concerned about his rights getting traded.

This may put be a big hiccup in our effort to sign Suter. I can't see them trading his rights to us. They may even trade him to someone else just so we don't have as good of a chance to get him. -

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?
Z Winged Dangler reacted to martyrme19 for a post in a topic
I tried my best to read each response and I feel like no one really mentioned the obvious. All of what people said about why the NHL and NFL are among the toughest are right. However with one glaring absence. Simply put - more NHL teams can realistically win the Stanely Cup in the playoffs than any other sport. Look no further than this years 8 seed winning it all. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt that has ever happened in the NBA. Even before the lockout, upsets were always rampant. Now, this is why I differ it from the NFL (where low seeds can also have success). In the NFL, a low seed can go far by going on a streak simply because its 1 and done. Anyone can get lucky a couple of times. But only the perfect makeup of the NHL requires just enough games to make it supremely tough for even the best team in the NHL to win, and for a low seeded team to prevail. If a low seed team wins, they prove that it wasn't a fluke whereas in the NFL, you can't claim that. K, end of story. -

Z Winged Dangler reacted to VM1138 for a post in a topic
Yes, it is. The NHL, NBA and MLB have similar playoff lengths. The MLB is a joke when it comes to athleticism. As someone else previously noted, in the NFL you are only out there for a few plays and while it's a physical game it's not consistent physicality. A few seconds and boom, you're done. So that leaves the NHL and the NBA. The NBA is hardly a physical sport anymore and again, and to compare it to the NHL is a joke. So yeah, the Cup is the hardest to win. -

Of the North American sports, its obviously a toss-up between the NFL and NHL. Don't forget the inclement weather that some of those playoff games are played in.....brrrrr! Overall though, I think it would be hard to top the Tour De France. 21 stages in 23 days, 150km+ in the saddle everyday, in baking heat and freezing rain, up the sides of enormous mountains, then down the other side at 50, 60, 70mph with no protection. Broken collarbones are to professional cyclists what missing teeth are to hockey players. -

Off -Season Game Plan:Detroit Red Wings
55fan reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
Listen, don't neg me because nobody agrees with you...First of all, I saw the name Nanne, so I thought it was a female, second of all prospect pools mean nothing when you compare it to a perennial playoff team and serious threat to contend for the Cup every year... So explain it to me again, you would put Minnesota's chances at winning a Cup better with their prospects than winning in Detroit with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula, Franzen, Cleary, Helm, Abdelkader all of whom are Stanley Cup Champions already and have a ton of playoff experience? Even long term, his chances of winning more than once is with Detroit and not because of their prospect pool, but because of their NHL team... ...You need to stop posting on a Red Wings board claiming to be a Wings fan and start posting here as a Wild fan. You can have all your prospects dude, Minnesota MAY luck out and might, MIGHT win A Cup in the next ten years, but I doubt it and they will also have the years where they don't make the playoffs, and who will be there every year? Yep, and with Detroit's NHL ready team and if they add Suter & Parise, Detroit can realistically win 3 Cups in that same decade and be in the playoffs every year and be a serious threat (get deep into the playoffs) at least 7 of those years... Come talk to us when Minnesota is a threat to make it to the playoffs EVERY year and actually makes it out of the first round more than one time in 11 years...BTW, your prospect pool don't look too good so far, ever since 07's 104 pts they have declined in points every year getting a whopping 81 last season in a point friendly NHL none the less... ...LA just proved how a low seeded playoff team can get on a run...I am willing to bet Parise would rather be a low seeded playoff team every year than not make the playoffs at all, like your team hasn't in 4 years, my God they have 3 playoff appearances in 11 years, ya that is attractive and incentive to sign somewhere where he can consistently make a run at the Cup...If Parise signs here, he will win a Cup, if he signs in Minnesota, he will not...I am not saying he would never sign there but If he signs in Minny, simply put, he is an idiot...I can name at least 10 other teams he could go to a win a Cup before he would in Minnesota... Get over yourself...#2 prospect pool...WTF!?!? So pretty much you are saying the Houston Aeros can beat the Grand Rapids Griffins...Super! And oh BTW, Holland and Ilitch have said numerous times that they will pay "whatever it takes" to win Cups...An owner is not gonna come out and say he isn't gonna spend money, so I don't care what the owner of the Wild says, he can only offer him so much anyway and if he offers him Crosby type money, then you can kiss the NHL goodbye because that will inflate salaries so much that you'll have Drew Miller's of the NHL making $5M a year soon! Besides it's no secret, the Wings have more money to spend now you cannot look to the future because you don't who is going to get how much down the road, you are misinformed there, have some common sense... -

Message to Ken Holland...

....Come on guy, do I really need to tell you to go back and read the comment again? We all know what he was saying.... A fair analogy would have been Souray/Stuart/Boyle/Carkner. By your logic we should be calling Smith a Konstantinov/Lidstrom/Chelios combo cause he can hit, has offensive sense, and a little mean streak....Even though we all know Smith is not comparable to either of those 3 players or the skills they possessed. "a draft pick is an asset, not a person, average apple does not mean average player...as soon as you think of it that way you've missed the point." ...Did you not read before responding? In one ear and out the other? lol -

Nashville to trade Suter's rights?
Matt reacted to ogreslayer for a post in a topic
Interesting rumor coming out of the league offices evidently: From Denis Bernstein So what are the chances Nashville will want to deal with Kenny & if so, how much of a higher price will Kenny have to pay? Maybe Kenny can get Stevie to trade for his rights & then flip them over ala the Quincey deal. -
