Thanks for the little piece of your heart, Kira, I'll put it to good use. I'm sorry you had to go through those experiences. No one should have to go through experiences like that. As corny as it may sound, I actually look to Steve Yzerman's 2002 Stanley Cup Playoff experience as an example of how to live out my remaining years. His body let him down, but he did not let that stop him from making a difference. When others would have lied down and quit with an injury like that, he instead rose above it and went on to inspire some of the greatest players in the world to become even greater still. My strategy is to not dwell in the bitterness and anger that comes with getting ALS, but rather use that energy to open my mind to become a problem solver; find and implement solutions to my new challenges, and concentrate on the things I can indeed do rather than focus on the things I am not able to do anymore. To be an example to my family to not let circumstances slow you down and get you off your game; to keep your eye on the prize, focus on whats important in life, to inspire them push through their perceived barriers to get the most of out their lives. Easier said than done, I know,...but then so is everything. And what the hell else have I got to do; it's either shrivel up and die or go for it and try to leave a legacy for my little girls to draw strength, courage, and love from. Thanks Kira, Puckloo, and 55Fan. Plan for the future; live for today. Go WIngs! -
2 pointsFeel very bad for Jiri. I lost my old man when he was only 56 years old when he succumbed to AML Leukemia. He was diagnosed around Halloween 2002 and passed away just after new years 2003 after going through horrific chemotherapy to prepare for a bone marrow transplant. It was really shocking how he could go from playing men's hockey and in what seemed to be great shape to passing away in less than 3 months time. Unfortunately, he never got a chance to meet his two grandsons, but his legacy lives on in me, my brothers, and my sons. My oldest who is 8 now(in my avatar pic) even sports #9 in soccer for his Grandpa, who was as big a Wings fan there ever was and idolized Gordie Howe growing up playing river hockey in Detroit. My heart goes out to you T.Lowe & your family. Since you are younger & still physically fit, with the exponentially increasing advancements in technology & medicine there is ever increasing hope of slowing the progression in the future. Hopefully your progression will mirror that of Stephen Hawking, who this year will mark his 50th year since he was 1st diagnosed with ALS. I wish you the best.

Brad Stuart destroys Gabriel Landeskog

Honestly, I have no problem with fights after clean hits. I understand why someone wouldn't want their star players getting hit with big hits, whether it was legal or not. If someone nailed Datsyuk with a clean hit, I'd want someone to step in and make others think twice about doing that. As long as fighting is legal, so is fighting from clean hits. Then again, I also want the instigator removed, so I can see how you'd be even more upset if that were done. Oh, and I forgot what a terrible fighter Stuart is. -

I hope you are able to spend some quality time with your old man, cause you never know. But mainly, It's nice to hear that you care and are concerned about his well being. I'm in my late 40's, in all appearences still healthy and strong (still mountain bike and skate, etc)) but was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease recently, so statistically speaking, I've got about 1 yr of being physically able (albeit in decline), then about 3 more years of...whatever, I'm not exactly sure, I just know it's going to suck (and it's gonna suck a lot more if i gotta lie in bed and watch the Wings stink up the joint!). And I waited a long time before getting married and having kids, so unfortunately my kids are both under 2 1/2 years old. I hesistate to post this, cause I certainly don't want to make this thread about me, but thouht maybe it could be a good reminder to everyone to hug your loved ones whenever you can, because life throws a lot of devasting blindside hits and it doesn't discriminate. Condolences to Juri, his family, and friends. -

Again? What exactly is the penalty called? 10 minute misconduct for a future penalty? Remember that Tom Cruise movie, "Minority Report"? -

Fact: You'd rather be playing your best hockey at the end of the season, rather than at the beginning of the season (even in a short 48 gm season). We're struggling at the beginning with signs of of better things to come. The only way to over come these things is thru hard work, and that is what we've lacked in the playoffs the last couple of years. So, that could be a good thing. Observation: St Louis, Chicago, San Jose, are the elite teams of the West this year. Vancouver is right behind, and certainly has the capability to get hot, especially with Zach Kassian showing signs of becoming a top level power forward. If Schneider can step into the #1 role and stay comfortable, and they actually get something in return for Luongo, it could put them right back into the elite level in the West. The next nine teams is a mosh pit of parity. At this early point in the season, when you look at Nashville, Detroit, Minnesota, Edmonton, Colorado, Dallas, Pheonix, L.A., and Anaheim, it's anybody's guess as to what order they'll all finish in, but I gotta think we can make it into the top half of those nine teams. I still believe in our top 6, and still believe that our bottom 6 can do whats asked of it. The Obvious: The Wings will need to stay healthy; to get the most out of everyone; will need the no name defense to make a name for itself; will need Howard at his best; and will need a helluva lot of puck luck to make the playoffs. It really depends on which teams come together and get hot, and which teams don't. Ya just gotta play the games and see. -

It clearly works. He seems to be taken off his game with a couple face washes or chops of the stick. If the idea is that he is going to camp out in front of the net, I actually think fighting wouldn't be a solution to the problem at all. It would actually run contrary to that goal. We don't need him sitting in the box with fighting majors or even matching minors. For some reason he can't get it through his head to defend himself between the whistles and skate away after them He needs some thicker skin and some pads like Homers' that accommodate for the extra attention that he draws. He and Bert both won't get even as many as the few calls Homer drew in front of the net because of their relative size. If he can't tough it out though (which it seems like he can't), it seems like his offensive resources are misallocated, his confidence suffers, and we will burn him out long before his contract is up. -

TLow, My heart goes out to you. I had a second cousin diagnosed with ALS, and luckily he was able to make it for quite a while before it finally got him. It isn't easy to live with. But you're right...live your life as best you can...savor the moments that you can do the things you love. ALS is a terrible fate...long, lingering diseases are a ***** (my parents both had long, lingering ailments). Good luck. -

I called this back in the summer but I want to repeat it. Tootoo will be a beloved Wing soom enough. He is a hardworker on the ice and gentleman off of it. Meant to be a Wing. Fan Favorite. -
1 pointWings were the 8th best in goals per game, and Calgary was 6th worst. I don't think it's a stretch to say the Red Wings have a better offensive hockey club. Anyways, Bouwmeester's production isn't what I'd want him for, he helped the penalty kill a ton, something that is important for the Red Wings, especially with losing Lidstrom(who played about 1 minute a game), and Stuart(who was our main penalty killer). I just think he would flourish with the Wings, Calgary plays a passive, trap oriented system. The Red Wings transition game would translate better with Jbow's speed and pass. I just don't think it's a good fit with him in Calgary. I agree though, I really don't like his contract, but let's not act like Yandle's is much better, about 1 million dollars cheaper and 2 years longer.

Toronto fires Brian Burke
T.Low reacted to frankgrimes for a post in a topic
The thing with Burkie is this: The guy loves and "thrives" under the celebrity spotlight status as he clearly showed in Toronto. I think a role between Shanahan und Bettman as the mediator for penalties would be perfect for him, he likes a tougher style and wants players having to answer for their actions but please keep that guy away from the media. Also his believes of what a GM should be are false, your job as a GM is build a winner everything else is secondary thought at best. I've watched an interview between him and Duthie - which I really respect by the way - at one time Burke came off real classy just to be become an absolute arrogant douchbag seconds later. If he learns to keep his political agenda to himself, calm down a lot more and using his IQ instead of his mouth he'll be another GM somewhere, someday soon if not I think he is done as a GM. Makes you appreciate guys like Holland, Shero and Chiarelli (has to work under a tight budget although his team is making plenty of $) even more they are quiet guys just doing their business and getting the job done :-) Having said that I think his person 2 person interview was way better than his exit video infront of the almost whole Toronto media. -
