It's possible I guess. Cossa has been in the system for 4 years now. Looks good, but not amazing. Was meh in his first callup this year, and then lost the starting role for the Griffs in the playoffs to Jack Campbell. I assume the G position plays out like this: Gibson/Talbot this year, with Cossa as the 3rd-string callup. Going into the 2026/27 season, Talbot will be released and the new tandem will be Gibson/Cossa. That next summer is also likely when Augustine will sign his ELC and join the Griffins. Once the 2026/27 season ends its a bit more murky. It will depend on the play of Cossa and Gibson during that season. If Cossa doesnt take the #1 spot for himself, I can see Gibson being re-signed, and then we can either choose to trade Cossa, or continue to cook him. He'll be 24ish at that point. If Augustine or Guimond are lighting up the AHL at the same time he would be much easier to trade. -

I do this every year, so im keeping up with tradition, just have less ammo this off season... anyway, 1. John Gibson Class: Iron Dome Skills: knocks down incoming missles to protect home base. Maintains a strict diet, and definately does not get hoagies lodged in his throat 3 at a time. Because of this weight control, likely won't need to be replaced in the near future. *Disclaimer: will likely need to be replaced by 2-3 new goalies as soon as next year 2. Michael Leighton Class: Drill Instructor Skills: Being 6'3"... we didnt know they stacked shidt that high. Does not discriminate against Hawks, Preds, Canes, Bolts, or Flyers... he was equally worthless on each of those teams. 3. James Van Reimsdyk Class: Grizzled Veteran Skills: has done 11 tours in Philly, Tronna, Boston, Colombus, and the Mekong river delta. Isnt the naive young soldier he once was, but seeing Kane reminds him of losing the cup on Pattys game winning goal in philly, which activates his PTSD sending him into wild frenzies of violent hockey play. In his freetime he enjoys clogging and summering in Rotterdam. 4. Jacob Bernard-Docker Class: Not Nick Perbix Skills: Rejected by both Ottawa and Buffalo, but he's on this team because *insert reason here*. Kinda looks like Nick Perbix, but I assure you, that is actually a man named Jacob Bernard Docker. -

With a hire such as this - what could Leighton possible 'teach', 'coach' that would improve either Gibson, or Talbot when taking into consideration their respective NHL careers and performances (as in Leighton doesn't hold a candle to either of them). -

Do not want Erik Karlsson. 11.5m for the next two years. No, thanks. Somebody on HFboards suggested Dylan Samberg who just filed for arbitration. Winnipeg love him and I’m sure they’ll sort out a long term contract though and won’t let him walk directly to UFA. But thats the kind of player we should go after, imo. Somebody on the rise that yet to have established themselves in the top four. Drew Helleson in Anaheim is another one, suggested by a poster that seems to know a lot about what the organization are thinking. -

Yzerman was a top player in the league superstar from day 1 though. Larkin is a weak 1st C who can't even get 1 selke vote despite wings homers clamoring to tell themselves how gReAT he is at defense... im just saying, there's a difference. And I don't care about the personal accomplishments or immediate desires of one individual player, especially not a non superstar. If Larks wants to be dour and glum about all this then let him request a trade. So long. Get a nice kings ransom for him. If Larks was the caliber of a late 20's Yzerman I would have a different attitude. But he's not. -

ALSO: Still holding out hope that we are in on Ehlers, top line minutes has to be attractive to him. I still think we NEED a top LHD, or if they are going to use Edvinsson there, a least a 2nd pairing LHD. Also a 2nd pairing RHD would be beneficial. Grzelcyk would be nice for that LHD. 40 points on a crap show of a Pittsburgh team. We CANNOT go into the season with the D we have. Need TWO legit NHL D. JBD is ok, but he's not that 2nd pairing RHD we need... -

2025 Offseason Thread
Motor City Mullets reacted to Jimmybigrigs69 for a post in a topic
Summer offseason / off topic thread I'll start: WHO/UN says that in 2024 175K Euros died due to heat, out of a population 744,000,000. This accounts for 0.0235% of the population. Pewresearch says that in 2023 gun violence accounted for 47K deaths in the USA. This accounts for 0.014% of the population. So you are almost twice as likely to be baked to death in Europe than killed by a gun in America. Not sure why this felt important to share, but it's good ammo for when you need to dunk on europoors who can't afford AC. Cheers -

I assume once Talbot is gone the Griffs net will likely belong to Trey and Rudy. With a mix in of gylander and postova. But i dont really see gylander or postova ever becoming NHLers. Fun fact though, I read Postova was down to either Detroit or Edmonton, and so he called his friend Luke Dostal of the Ducks and Dostal straight up told him go with Detroit. -

Late posting this, butttttt Goalie GOAT Guimond decommitted from Yale. Probably after he read my post about them sucking lol. Therefore, it's implied he's returning to the QMJHL. However, I think it may be more likely that - with his emergence as a prominent young goalie - he recinded on Yale in order to pursue offers from a better program. And a program that will pay him. Ivy league schools make it a point not to pay athletes. Would be interesting if he gets into a big10 program and competes with guys like Augustine. -

OHL vs. College Hockey Quality?
Rick D reacted to Jimmybigrigs69 for a post in a topic
With Michigan State losing out on Gavin McKenna to PSU, and losing Hobey Baker winner Isaac Howard to the Oilers in the same week, it's rumored their trying to pull in likely #2 overall pick next year in Porter Martone, among other possible CHL defectors. Are their any UofM fans here? I dont understand why Naruto and that program have been so quiet. They have baller azz athletics money to use, but don't seem to be making any attempt to flex it. Further, it looks apparent to me that the the CHL is going to shift from a 16-21 year old league, to a 16-18 year old league. They are capped at only paying players $7,200 a year. If programs like MSU/PSU are willing to dish out hundreds of thousands on a single guy, then they can easily outbid and lure in any rando CHLer they want. Add a possible free degree to that for life after hockey and its a no brainer. If you're still in the CHL at 19 you're basically gonna be a loser that no NCAA program wanted. So CHL isnt kill completely. But BCHL, USHL, etc should be fuqqin worried. -

Seider for Captain
Rick D reacted to Jimmybigrigs69 for a post in a topic
I don't think it's a partner problem. When Chiarot first joined the team they had awful chemistry as a pair. With Big Ben always trying to take the lead and be THE GUY. But this last year or two that really changed and they played much better together. If anything, I think it has more to do with the overall lack of talent in our entire D lineup. Because of that fact, coaches know they need Seider on the ice as much as humanly possible. Therefore they want him playing efficiently and conservatively. It just sucks, because that's not his strength. Sure, he's proved he can do it, eat 25 min a night and be a steady force... but the kid we fell in love with wasn't steady. He was creative, dynamic, explosive, and could be an absolute cannonball on the ice. THAT's what made him special. That's what set him apart. Now my fear is the Red Wings have sapped that natural instinct from him... That one day they're going to say "Okay, Ed and ASP can now handle big minutes, Mo, feel free to go out and be your old bully self" and it will be too late, and that style game will have been coached out of him. One of the reasons I love Copp, JTC, and I like the Appleton signing is because their presence keeps Larkin off the PK. Larkin does NOT belong on a PK unit. It's a missuse of personel. Keep that kid in the Ozone as much as you fuqqing can. Similarly, it's a missuse/disservice to Seider to ask him to play this style game. We desperately need another big minute RHD, so that we can drop Seider's minutes from 25 min a night, to something like 22-23 min a night, in which he can play more free/loose/explosive. Honestly - keeping Hronek around may have alllowed that to happen, and a more natural progression to Seiders development may have ensued. But he's been forced to be something he's not here, and it pains me to watch. ASP cant come quick enough. -

dammit! Isaac Howard was traded to Edmonton, AND he signed a 3 year deal.... I know Yzerman cannot control where players would rather play, but it is just damned depressing that we lose out on some players due to our lackluster play and lack of playoffs. Sorry, just in a crappy mood, and really waiting for something good to happen to pick me up... have a good night... -

Yes, imagine being a 37 year old Talbot, or 31 year old Gibson, taking advice from a 44 year old Leighton that spent most of his career in the AHL and averaged like 4 games a year in the NHL.... he's barely their senior, can't hold a flame to their respective careers, and has no prior coaching expierience... but surely they will respect his critiscm and instruction. GREAT HIRE SY... Its all so tiresome. Prediction: Mclellan and Leighton will both be gone from the Wings within the next 3 years. Remember this post. -
