I am very excited to see what Blashill can do with this team. But what I am most excited about is there are no guarantees where players will line up on the roster... Will Ericsson remain on the top pair? Will Smith get a look on the power-play? Will Weiss have a chance at the 2nd line center spot? Will Jurco be in the top 6(9)? Will Pulkkinen be utilized better in the offensive zone (left side faceoff circle), Will Abdelkader / Helm remain in the top 6 (not necessarily saying they shouldn't...)? Will Ferraro / Callahan get a look on the 4th line? A lot of question marks... Going to be an exciting training camp. Can't wait!!!

No ill will toward Babcock if he goes. 10 yrs is an eternity in the same position in pro sports. He is a smart guy with a psychological bent. I have a feeling that he wants a different challenge. Taking on a new gig elsewhere would invigorate him, as well as give a fresh voice and ideas to the Wings. If someone is willing to pay him ~$5 million a year in the process, more power to him. Wings don't need to pay him anywhere near that much though IMO.

As a "special consultant". You know who else is a "special consultant" to the Red Wings. Chelios and Lidstrom. It would be a stretch to attribute the team's successes or failures to "special consultants".

You can search the entire world over, and you will not find ANYONE who's a better NHL General Manager than Holland. He's got the hardware to prove it. He is, literally, the most accomplished executive in the business. Period. Fin.
So I'm not really sure what you're trying to do here, say that he should be replaced with someone better? There isn't anyone. Demonstrably so. Or are you saying that he's really not that good, and that his underlings did all the work? Which would be silly, because the team was arguably MORE successful when he was the underling.
No matter how you cut it, he's the most competent person at his job...by a ******* mile.

The series goes to 7 games. The first 6 are 1-0. All goals are scored when the puck bounces off someone standing in front of the net pointing a finger at an opposing player and whining about something.
By game 7, they have all learned to stand and cry without pointing. In the intermission before the 7th overtime of a 0-0 game, Steve Yzerman visits the locker room and asks to speak to Filppula. He has brought with him a medium who looks deeply into Flip's dreamy... blue... ey...........

They came to play tonight. Didn't do their way. Enjoyed the season. It wouldn't shock me to hear Z and D are both battling injuries. As always, an interesting off season. More than anything, I'm just bummed no more Red Wings hockey until October I wanted it to last just a little longer.

Game 4, man.
This sucks. Feel like the Wings deserved better tonight, but they blew their chances previously to wrap up the series.
