Let the whining commence. I'll trust professionals and lifelong hockey minds over the lot of the whiners here. Go Wings.

Stick to your guns, I like it. They had their eyes on this kid and didn't want to let him go. Must have seen something special if they were willing to take him this high. From everything I've read about him, seems like he is a very safe pick and the lowest he projects is top 4 defensive defensemen with offensive potential. A shutdown guy who has top back skating speed and can keep up with the rush. Oh, and he rarely makes mistakes or lapses on defense. Oh, and he has a good first pass.

A lot about Zadina will depend on how hard he works this off-season and how he looks in the preseason. There's a chance he could be up come October.

Last year, we drafted best player available, ignoring need. This year we did the opposite. Oh how I wish we could reverse the two.

Honestly, I really like the pick. I like it because I love the player, yes, but I also like it because Yzerman knows how important this pick is and you could argue he had every reason in the world not to select Seider if he wasn't fully 100% sure that he's His Guy. Passing on all those good forwards that were available, including Cozens -- who would seem to fit Yzerman's drafting history to a T -- means he's beyond sold on Seider. That, to me, is very exciting.
Seider's absolute ceiling is something like a Victor Hedman monster 1D. You know who has unique insight into Hedman himself and, one would assume, defense prospects in that general mold? Steve Yzerman. Steve Yzerman wants a Hedman and Wings fans have been wet-dreaming about finding a Red Wings version of Hedman for the better part of a decade.
No one had Chicago taking Dach, so the fact that E X P E R T S are questioning the pick means nothing to me. Though, if we're going to defer to E X P E R T S, Craig Button and some others had Seider going only a few spots after we took him. So I'm not sure you can even call it a true stretch pick. Maybe to E X P E R T S who didn't even consider the possibility that he could go as high as 6th, but many of the E X P E R T S live in their own self-constructed realities, which is why they get so many picks wrong every year. What we were (and weren't) hearing about Seider over the course of the past year doesn't really have any bearing on what our scouts and GM think of Seider.

The look on his face was absolutely priceless. I love it.

Only on LGW would the day come that we finally draft a potential star RH Dman and the board is less than elated lmao

I think It's a safe pick at the least, with potential to be a steal. Seems like the kid has a relatively high floor.

This makes losing the lottery even more painful.

Instead of accelerating the rebuild, Stevie just set it back.

Not sure how I feel about this one.
Best bet to just stand behind the kid and hope he's great. He's ours now.

Interesting... this topic is 2019 Draft.... yet there is a WHOLE lot of talk about the 2018 Draft... Get back on the topic already.

To be disappointed that Zadina didn't light up the AHL and get a call up to be full time for the Wings is totally reasonable. I wish that would've happened too.
However:
Nailed it.

SwedeLundin77 reacted to LeftWinger in Report: Detroit to name Steve Yzerman as GM
At one point in the presser Steve answered a question saying "we'll see in 5 years" or "I'll let you know in 5 year's." Something to that effect. I'm not sure if he was letting leak out his personal goal for having success or if he was referring to that because his contract is for 5 years. But that's the only time I heard anything about years.

SwedeLundin77 got a reaction from krsmith17 in Report: Detroit to name Steve Yzerman as GM
Did anyone glean how long Yzerman is signed for? I haven't been able to find any details on that. Holland apparently signed a multi-year extension in his new position and it sounds like he is staying put, but I could see him moving on to Seattle if they come calling in 2020sh. I think a big part of it is that he and Yzerman are really good friends, so that has to be a nice reason to stick around in an executive position. I just hope Yzerman is allowed to spread his wings, so to speak, and not be hampered by Holland/Illitch on whatever direction he wants to go (trading players, buying out players, signing players). Obviously, Holland will have input, but it better be Yzerman's show to run and make decisions. If this team doesn't take a step forward and show player growth again this upcoming season, I hope he has the latitude to fire Blashill, if he deems it appropriate.

Nope. He's adding some good young depth for free. No risk, possibly high reward.

I don't care for Holland, but what are you going to do? Not go for two of the top college forwards available because they're not righties?

SwedeLundin77 got a reaction from Dabura in 2/20 Caca 4 Kakko GDT - Blackhawks @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET (NBCSN)
Nice to see Abdelkader on an appropriate line. Athanasiou on the third line makes zero sense. Rasmussen may be a healthy scratch tonight for Ehn. They're considering sending him down to juniors so that he can play in the AHL playoffs. Really confused as to why Nyquist isn't on the top line to showcase him and hopefully move him. There is no reason to keep him beyond this season, especially since you'd be banking on him having this kind of production continue, which is very risky.

SwedeLundin77 reacted to krsmith17 in 2019 Trade Deadline
In my opinion, both Cholowski and Hronek need to be on the roster full time next season. With Green, DeKeyser, Daley and Ericsson still under contract, talks of Kronwall coming back for another season, talks of Jensen being re-signed, there are no vacant roster spots. Ideally, I'd like to see Kronwall retire, Jensen re-signed and one of Ericsson or Daley traded, waived or bought out. Next season go into the season with...
Cholowski - Green
DeKeyser - Jensen
Ericsson - Hronek
