BadgerBob reacted to krsmith17 in 2017-18 Lines Thread
You know who should be "cleaning up rebounds"? Skilled players. I would set up a large spread, with two players on the points, two players down low, and a player in the middle. You don't need a guy directly in front of the net to get at a rebound. Any time there's a shot from the point (or the half boards), you have two players on each side of the net, as well as a player in the high slot that can all collapse and pounce on rebounds. Anyway, agree to disagree I guess.
Personally, I'd have all the skill players on the two power-play units and the "grit" players on the penalty kill units. Teams dress 18 skaters every night. Coincidentally you need 10 players (8 forwards, 2 defensemen) for 2 power-play units, and 8 players (4 forwards, 4 defensemen) for 2 penalty kill units. I'd have Zetterberg, Nielsen, Nyquist, Tatar, Frk, Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou, Green and Daley on the power-play, and Glendening, Abdelkader, Helm, Wilson, Kronwall, Ericsson, Ouellet, Jensen on the penalty kill units. That's just me though...

There is a bromance growing
Anthony: "I hope we play on the same line for the rest for the year"
Dylan: "... *leans in close* I hope we play on the same line forever"

One rumor I'm hearing is about the 2020 draft.
Quinton Byfield is already projecting to go #1. He's a 15 year old forward who's already 6'3 200lbs. He's absolutely dominating AAA at the moment, and not just because of his size. Word is he's got the skillz and smarts too.
He didn't get CHL excpetional status, but 99% of exceptionally skilled players don't.
If he goes #1 in 2020 he will be the first black player to ever go #1.
You heard it here first folks

BadgerBob reacted to Richdg in Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
In a ideal-not perfect world we have a top 10 pick, a bottom 10 pick after trading Green, 2 2nds and 2 or more 3rds..... How would I draft?
top 10 pick: Wilde 6-2/195 RH shooting Dman known for his booming shot and physical play.
Bottom 10 pick: Matty Samuelsson 6-4/215 LH shooting Dman. Think a poor mans Hedman from TB.
These 2 need to play every minute of every shift together for the next 20 years. They should become a legit top pair at the next level.
In the second round now I go for a couple of F's. 2 guys I like are:
Jachym Kondelik 6-6/220 LH shooting C. Think Martan Hanzel.
Conner Roberts 6-4/215 RH shooting RW/C.
In the 3rd I would go with:
Alexis Gravel 6-2/210 G.
Philippe Lapointe 6-0/195 RH shooting RW-Martys kid.
Just because I like to be ahead. 2 guys for 2019:
Tag Bertuzzi 6-2/200 LH shooting LW-Todds kid should be a 1st rounder.
Mason Primeau 6-4/190 LH shooting C. late 1st/2nd rounder.

I love Bergevin. He gives absolutely zero frks what his whiney fan base thinks and just does whatever he wants.
When I win the powerball and can afford to buy the Arizona Coyotes, I will poach Bergevin to be my GM and Tortorella to be my coach.

BadgerBob reacted to Dabura in 2017-18 Lines Thread
I'm thinking the same thing, except switch around AA and Svechnikov.
Nyquist Zetterberg Mantha
Tatar Larkin Svechnikov
Athanasiou Nielsen Frk
Abdelkader Helm Glendening
DeKeyser Daley
Ericsson Green
Ouellet Jensen
I thought Svechnikov showed some good chemistry with Larkin in that Ottawa game last season. I love that he loves crashing the net and stomping around in goalies' kitchens and just generally mucking it up in all those dirty places in the o-zone where the Wings tend to lose a lot of battles for pucks and positioning. He's like a bigger Tatar in that sense. I think we need more of that in the top six. Tatar-Larkin-Svechnikov could be really effective on the forecheck and the cycle.
Athanasiou-Nielsen-Frk would, in theory, be like Athanasiou-Nielsen-Vanek. The problem with the Athanasiou-Nielsen-Vanek line was that Vanek and Athanasiou had to be sheltered...and yet at the same time we needed that line to be a solid, formidable second line. Now that Nielsen's been bumped down to 3C and Larkin is playing big minutes, the sheltering thing isn't as much of a concern.
I left Bertuzzi out because one of Booth/Witkowski, Sheahan, Glendening will always be in the lineup. And, to be honest, I was really disappointed with Bertuzzi's preseason performance, so I don't feel too bad about leaving him out.

BadgerBob reacted to Juklitz in Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder
Yes, I can imagine it´s tough to understand, even local people mostly don´t understand.
Short story is - these people lived in Europe (they came from India for many reasons, mostly descendants of Dalits https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalit ) for centuries, mostly practicing their original habits, means - living without permanent home, moving with their trailers, keeping their languages, ignoring education, politics, everything. These vere true european nomads with their unique culture style, language etc. It was quite ilegal, but this was the way they´ve been living for centuries.
It was basically legal to kill gipsy like 150 yrs ago in Slovakia or Hungary..
Aprox in 50´s, commies started with social engineering, prohibited nomading and put these people in separated areas like Lunik, but there are hundreds of so called gipsy ghettos around central Europe countries. It was not working. These people don´t understand - by their genetical gear, habits or whatever you will call it - values of work, home, education, nothing. They´re following only elder authorities, unemployment is like 90%, like two thirds or more are relying on government care and money.
And for East Slovakia (one of the poorest EU regions), there´s one more thing which doesn´t exist in Czech republic - separated gipsy villages, like the place where´s no law. https://goo.gl/mUUY9f
But keep in mind, this is NOT a slum. These people, they really want to live like that, it´s their choice.

BadgerBob reacted to krsmith17 in Athanasiou Signed 1 year $1.4 mil
The only other way is if Abdelkader is demoted to the 4th line, and I doubt that... I'm not a fan of Abby in the top 6, but if he is (and he will be), I'd prefer him with Zetterberg... If there's one player that can get him going, it's Z. It also adds depth down the lineup. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this...
Abdelkader - Zetterberg - Nyquist
Mantha - Larkin - Frk
Athanasiou - Nielsen - Tatar
Wilson - Helm - Glendening
Frk and Tatar are interchangeable.
That would give us three strong "offensive" lines and a solid checking line.
I agree. But what we would like to see, and what will happen, is often quite different...

BadgerBob reacted to The Datsyukian Deke in Athanasiou Signed 1 year $1.4 mil
So amazing guys around here really blame AA and not our idiot GM..
He is not a spoiled brat. He saw players delivering less than he does getting millions of dollars thrown at them by Holland. He was, in just his second season, already close to 0.5 PPG while being not even used properly. You really blame that guy for taking a look at Helm and Abby and thinking "wtf are you offering me"? Or seeing Holland signing Witkoswski and telling AA afterwards "oops, we don't have enough cap anymore, you need to take less".

BadgerBob reacted to LeftWinger in Mrazek "Maturing, could bounce back like Howard"
Having Howard and Coreau would probably help us in our pursuit of Dahlin/Svech. (although I believe we need Dahlin more!)
Imagine this in two years:
Theodore - Dahlin
Cholowski - Hicketts
Daley - DD
Jensen/XO (if re-signed)
We still have Hronek, Sarajaarvi and Sulak in the minors (Europe) that can come in when DD and Daley contracts end.
I'd gladly give Mrazek away and allow him to mature in Vegas! Especialy for Theodore in return!
And BTW, Yes I am hoping we get to draft a Swedish defenseman! (although at the moment he is only 165lbs. but that will change!)

We need a GM that has no ties nor loyalty to these players.

BadgerBob reacted to LeftWinger in Next GM
I agree, we need a sweeping if the cupboard! From Holland down. They don't need to be fired, just not given the GM spot. But the entire coaching staff needs to go, sans the goalie coach since he's done a bang up job with Howard.
The new GM must rid this team of MOST the huge contracts and some useless players in order to make an impact in the JT sweeps, as well as landing a legit top defender. Ericsson, one of Nyquist/Tatar, Helm, the rights to Mrazek, Sheahan and AA if he doesn't come down to earth.
I'd keep Abby as long as he doesn't see anything above the 3rd line, but I'm not opposed to trading him. I am a big fan if DD on a personal level, but if in the next season he doesn't turn it around, I'll be looking to deal him too.
Most important is to get rid of Blash and crew, Why? 1st powerplay unit:
Tatar - Z - Abby
Nyquist - Kronwall
100% unacceptable!

BadgerBob got a reaction from krsmith17 in Alex galchenyuk - should we make a move ?
Damn I was hoping we could trade Glendenning to Babcock for Marner. 4th linger for 4th liner.

BadgerBob reacted to krsmith17 in Alex galchenyuk - should we make a move ?
No way Holland would do that... And why would he? Glendening has 2 goals so far this season, on pace for 27. Marner has 1 goal. F***ing scrub...

BadgerBob reacted to Shaman in Mike Commodore's experience with the Wings
500 games, millions of dollars and a cup ring? Yeah, he's a loser. His feud is petty, but all things considered he had a pretty good career for a bottom D-man.
AA will be calling cutting a s*** 'taking a Holland' I bet.
-
BadgerBob reacted to ChristopherReevesLegs in Mike Commodore's experience with the Wings
The story I remember (from Commodore) was no one was offering him contracts and he was considering retirement. Then he got a call out of the blue from his agent/Holland that was "we want you at this price, you have an hour to decide before we move on to someone else" and he asked Holland "is it you who wants me? Or does Babs want me?" (he didn't like Babcock already from his time playing under him in Cincinnati) Holland told him the signing was at the request of Babcock. So as he tells it, he went against his gut and said f*** it maybe Babs remembers what I bring and actually needs me this time. Then Babs only played him for 17 games.
So I see why he doesn't like the guy, but the amount of vitriol over a failed experiment in Detroit is way over the top on his end. Butthurt loser.

BadgerBob reacted to ChristopherReevesLegs in Matt Tkachuk: League's New Villain?
The Doughty/Tkachuk rivalry got heated again last night with Drew and Matt going at it verbally in the penalty box. The Kings swarmed Tkachuk after the whistle a few times too. Calgary v. LA are some of the best games to watch. Tkachuk is living rent free in Doughty's head, I love this kid.
