haroldsnepsts got a reaction from The Greek in Pronger (contract) and Grossman to for Sam Gagner and conditional pick
So Pronger is an employee of the NHL front office while also being employed as an NHL player under contract (who just got traded) while also becoming eligible for the HHOF because of the new bylaws? That's some impressive Pronger physics.
I wonder if the Coyotes will retire his jersey? He's the best d-man they've ever had.

I don't disagree with you there. A true #1 defenseman with an offensive side and capable of being a PP QB would be nice. Holland seemed to put all his eggs in one basket with assuming he'd get Suter, and when that didn't happen, he sort of did nothing. At the same time, the Wings just don't have a lot to offer in terms of assets. Since Suter, I don't think there's really been a whole lot out there in terms of defensemen who fit with what the Wings need at a price that makes sense.

Karlsson winning the Norris again is kind of the death knell for that award for me. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but even Sens fans acknowledge that he had a bad start to the year.
The award is allegedly "given to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position." By giving it to Karlsson this season in spite of his bad Sep-Dec they've removed both the "all-round" part and now the "throughout the season" portion as well.
If they were giving the award for best two-thirds of a season then it should be Giordano's. Apparently hockey writers have about as long of memory as the younger members at hfboards. If you've played well in the last month then you're the greatest of all time.

We've confirmed that the recent influx of spammers are actual people, not spambots or anything like that. As such, there may not be much we can do to prevent the occasional attack.
We have tools that make cleaning up these attacks extremely easy (one click on their profile and they're banned, content removed and ip-blocked). But unfortunately we can't use these tools until the spam posts are brought to our attention. That's where we need members to use the "report post" tool.
When a post is reported, the system sends an email to each of the boards moderators and Admin. That way we get notified, even if we're not on the boards.
One thing though, most of these spammers tend to attack the boards in the very late/early hours, when most people are asleep. LGW mods are just like everyone else, we have jobs and responsibilities that make it hard to be online at the time these spammers hit. So please understand that we will take care of the attacker as soon as we can, but it may be several hours before a mod can be online.

Agreed. If Bettman claims that "opening the expansion process" doesn't necessarily mean anything, you can guarantee the exact opposite is true. The league is definitely expanding.
I hate Bettman but he's no idiot and is always thinking way ahead on any move he makes. The lockouts were a meticulously calculated financial decision, as is expansion. If this wasn't something he thought would bring more money to his owners, he wouldn't have even uttered the word.

I thought someone had said that the players don't actually write the articles. At the bottom Avery is listed as "contributor."
I don't doubt he's a smart guy and definite marches to his own drummer, often in an interesting way off the ice. On the ice he was an idiot though. And he glosses over the part that he "decided" to retire because no one in the NHL wanted him anymore. Avery had a great skillset, it just wasn't worth all the baggage and distractions that came with him anymore.
He's still only 35 years old and could still be playing in the NHL if he ever figured out how to be a professional and a good teammate.

Hasek has a long history of coming out and standing on his head in games after he's been yanked from the net.
Hopefully that's what'll happen tonight. It'd be great to see the "old" Dom instead of the old Dom.

False. The team in front of him can never get in done in the playoffs. It isn't his job to score goals.

Their problem has always been center depth. Stacked at G. Stacked at D. Nash and company at wing (even though Nash choked).
To me Brassard and Stepan are both great 2nd line centers. But they're going to compare to the Datsyuks, Toews, Kopitars, and Stamkos's of this league.

Unlikely it'll be either. But if it's going to be one of those two it should be Fedorov.
Osgood was a big part of the team but is not the caliber of player that the Wings retire jerseys for.

True. But I think that starts to happen to a degree with anyone who's become a scapegoat here. Ericsson, Cleary, even Howard the second half of the season. People were acting like Clearly's objective was to singlehandedly ruin the Red Wings and that he was a greedy, terrible person.
Franzen has just been a scapegoat for a lot longer than most so the bashing has gone further afield, though honestly I don't remember a ton of criticism's that involved his personal life. Though there have been plenty of childish insults.
Sometimes as a rabid hockey fan we forget these guys are real people.

How is hating the Blackhawks more petty than hating any other team in the league? Hatred isn't rational. It's part of being a fan and having rivalries.
For me it's not only deeply ingrained from the longstanding Wings rivalry, but it's also that their current roster has several players who are pretty easy to hate compared to the Lightning. Then throw their fanbase on top of it and it comes pretty easily.
If I'm picking a team I'd want to win the Cup that's not the Wings, between the Blackhawks and Tampa, it's a pretty easy choice. If only to make Eddie Olczyk shed tears that subtly interfere with his happiness.

I think it's completely on a case by case basis. Wayne Gretzky won a few things in his career but that didn't translate to coaching.
One thing you can pretty much count on if Cheli is an assistant coach though is that team fitness will probably be very high.
