Happy Pancake 6 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 Florida #2 in the USA Today poll. Not looking good for Michigan. I guess I don't mind the Rose Bowl but why toy with us by having USC lose?
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 I actually don't mind that FLA gets their shot, but the reason I am so against it is because Meyer will not stop his crying. I agree with Carr's quote.. "I think it's going to be a great controversy, I don't care who gets selected," Carr said, "because I just think that based on some of the comments the Florida coach has made in the last two weeks -- campaigning strenuously for a berth in the championship game -- and making some statements about Michigan that I think were inappropriate." When FLA/OSU meet I don't see how OSU won't blow FLA out. Thier offense is a gimick, and the OSU D would kill Chris Leak, who is total joke.

"The joke" has a better QB rating than Chad Henne. Florida beat LSU, who's defense id say is a little better than Ohio St. I dont see the Buckeyes defense shutting just them down...gimmicky or not. Carr was out there doing his own brand of campaigning, saying he hopes Michigan having two weeks off isn't going to hurt them. It's not quite as up front as Meyer is, because that's not Carr's style, but its the same thing. I read this on another board, and I think its a pretty good summation of Michigan's argument. Michigan's strongest argument to be in the Championship is that they had a better loss than Florida did. Weak.

You're saying Leak is better then Henne?! I sure hope not...give me a break! You know why Leak has a higer rating? It's because 80% of his passes are slants/screens. Did you watch FLA play yesterday? Leak almost cost them the game 3 times with bone head plays. If Henne went to the NFL this year (he won't) he would get drafted way higher then Leak. Look I have no problem with FLA going. Politics of football just piss me off. You know Meyer is now against having a football playoff because his Gators got in.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 The LA Times is saying Florida is #2 in the BCS. According to a BCS source, Florida moved from fourth to second today ahead of No. 3 Michigan in the final BCS standings. An official announcement will come this evening in a televised unveiling on Fox. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-bcs4de...1&cset=true
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 I just read that...I wonder where U-M ends up now. I say the Rose Bowl, but many reports have LSU already in there (LSU has bought 42,000 tickets). And USC gets a for sure bid. Maybe the Orange Bowl?
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 I'll be annoyed if its not UM/USC in the Rose Bowl. It would be the perfect chance for a classic Big 10/Pac 10 matchup. Was LSU confirmed to be there, or is it just a bunch of crazy cajuns believing internet rumors and buying tickets? As a side note, did anyone else watch the Rutgers/WVU game last night? What a nailbiter. I was really hoping to see Rutgers in a BCS bowl, but, I can't complain too much. They're in the Texas Bowl, so I'll be going to see it. I absolutley love watching those top 3 Big East teams play eachother. It's great football to watch. LSU wasn't confirmed, but 42,000 crazy fans already did get a hold of tickets. All im saying is that i find it "funny" (pun intended) that the QB you're calling a joke has a better rating than the QB in your avatar. So obviously, he cant be that much of a joke...or else you dont think that highly of Henne (which i know isnt the case) Also, Henne was better WR's threw less TD's than Leak. All while Tebow got some action as well. Both teams also had the same number of rushing TD's...so an argument that Michigan just runs for more TD's cant even be used. So really...is there really much of a disparity between Henne and Leak? (enough to call one a joke?)
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 I'll be annoyed if its not UM/USC in the Rose Bowl. It would be the perfect chance for a classic Big 10/Pac 10 matchup. Was LSU confirmed to be there, or is it just a bunch of crazy cajuns believing internet rumors and buying tickets? Buncha crazy Cajuns, mostly. There were radio reports that LSU was going to be the team invited to the Rose Bowl to face Michigan. But they've also been snapping up Sugar Bowl and Citrus Bowl (oops, sorry - C*****l O** Bowl) tickets. The radio report was long before USC was upset. Here's how it shakes out: Conference champs with auto-bids and their bowl affiliations: Ohio State - Rose Louisville - None Wake Forest - Orange Florida - Sugar USC - Rose Oklahoma - Fiesta Other auto-bids: Boise State Michigan That leaves two at-large spots. The NCG will be Ohio State and Florida. Because the Rose and Sugar lose the #1 and #2 teams, they get first and second pick of the rest of the teams, respectively. And here's the crucial paragraph: When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents. In other words, the Rose can't take an SEC team unless the Sugar OKs it. And I promise you, with the chance to take LSU on the table, the Sugar won't be cool with that. The rest of the picks are Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, according to the rotation. So the picks will go like this: Rose Sugar Sugar Orange Fiesta The Rose Bowl will almost definitely take Michigan, since they can't have LSU. The Sugar will ****** up LSU, and probably Notre Dame as well. That leaves the Orange to choose from Louisville and Boise State, and Louisville is the obvious pick, leaving the matchups as follows: NCG - Ohio State/Florida Rose - Michigan/USC Fiesta - Oklahoma/Boise State Sugar - LSU/Notre Dame Orange - Louisville/Wake Forest
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 (edited) Yeah, I always get a laugh. Eva should be a politician for sure with the way he spins things. Or a statistician b/c he comes up with things and comparisons I've never even heard of in my life. Personally, I'm tired of all the speculation and I'm getting to the point where I don't really give a s**t anymore. I've had enough. I just want the announcements to come and for it to be over with. LSU was all but confirmed, major sports sites were reporting it. It wasn't definite but it was going to happen in all likelihood until both UCLA and Florida put a big monkey wrench into that plan. Hell as an LSU fan, I don't care what BCS game they play in as long as they can get in. They aren't playing for the National Championship so basically almost all the BCS games before the championship are filler games to me, no one BCS bowl is significantly better or worse than the other. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted December 4, 2006 .....no one BCS bowl is significantly better or worse than the other. Almost right. The Rose Bowl is the Granddaddy Of Them All. Big Ten fans (and I'm sure Pac-10 fans as well) enjoy going to the other BCS bowls but consider them consolation prizes for not getting to go to the Rose. I feel very strongly about this. Yeah, not that I really care what happens to Michigan, but speaking strictly as a Big 10 fan, they should be playing USC in the Rose Bowl. It wouldn't seem right otherwise. Matt 1,049 Report post Posted December 4, 2006 Since college football doesn't have a playoff system the whole "they deserve their shot" doesn't hold a lot of weight with me -- the BCS is supposed to match the top 2 teams in the country. To me, there (obviously) isn't a doubt who that is... ... With that said, I'll be very annoyed if come Janaury 9th Florida was embarassed by Ohio State and Michigan wiped the floor with USC. Can we just have a G.D. Playoff System already?

With that said, I'll be very annoyed if come Janaury 9th Florida was embarassed by Ohio State and Michigan wiped the floor with USC. I won't be. In fact that's exactly what I'm hoping for. I'm tired of the SEC's crying and moaning. That league is quickly becoming forever dead to me. You never hear the end of it, how Michigan and Ohio State would have at least two losses or how Alabama would be 9-3 in the Big Ten. I hope Ohio State blows the Gators into Mexico. Can we just have a G.D. Playoff System already? I agree. Hey give FLA credit winning ugly in their hard conference, but Kirk Heirbstreit just made the smartest remark I've heard yet. He said if the Nov. 18 was played yesterday with the same results there is no way Michigan would fall in any poll. I am with Matt I think U-M is still the 2nd best team in the nation even though it no longer says that on paper.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted December 4, 2006 It's officially LSU and Notre Dame in the Sugar - which, though they have yet to announce it, makes it also official: Michigan and USC. Big 10/Pac-10, as it should be. Perfect. I hope we stomp them.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted December 4, 2006 No. And why not? Other than potentially fudging with exams and lessening the "value" of some big bowls, it's the only way you can legitimately claim that a team ran the gauntlet and is No. 1. Having who plays Ohio State, as Pat Forde put it, come down to conjecture is a joke -- and I'd have to echo what Herbstreit said as well. Looks like I'm a Buckeyes fan for a week. Enjoy the cakewalk to the championship because I don't think Florida is anywhere in the same league. Not to mention I'd have a GREAT laugh if the SEC teams that make it to bowls fair poorly. Computers had them dead tied...human element put Florida over Michigan. Lovely.
