Well, I haven't read all of the posts on this 20 page thread, but I need to get something off of my chest. I've been reading posts like on this board for the last day. Everybody keeps talking about how dirty of a shot that was that Bertuzzi took on Moore (which it was). And I have heard numerous people refer to it as "the worst thing that has happened to hockey in decades", or the "dirtiest cheap shot in years". I have to say that people who are looking at this cheap shot in that way are idiots. Was it dirty? Yes. But at the end of the day, the only thing that made it dirty, is that he came up from behind.

Remember the McSorley-Brashear hit? THAT was dirty. Using the stick as a weapon has been a no no in hockey since the beginning. Bertuzzi took a cheap shot on a guy that ran his team's star player. A big part of the reason he makes the kind of money that he does is because now we feel that our stars will be protected. The last couple of weeks I have seen Datsyuk and Zetterburg get run on numerous occasions. Having a guy like Bert on our team will make the opposition think twice before doing that. That's why you get a guy like Bertuzzi.

I kinda doubt that it was Bertuzzi's intention to break his neck. While that's cold comfort to Moore I guess most people have realized by now that this was accidental. I don't doubt that Bertuzzi wanted to hurt him but not to that extent. When you look at the reactions among hockey players around the league you see that a lot of them were shocked that a punch/hit that was very similar to what they do on a regular basis resulted in the damage that it did. What I mean is that Bertuzzi but especially Moore was extremely unlucky that the punch caused the injury that forced Moore to stop playing. I know I've seen worse attacks on the ice before and I probably will again, it's a violent game and accidents happen - just like in real life. Enough about the Moore incident, it's been talked about enough and without any obvious results, the game isn't going to change because this is the way it's played. Most people who get into fights or play with a physical style or who attack team captains know that you're going to have problems. This doesn't only concern hockey but a lot of sports. Bleh.

Personally I'm happy to see Bertuzzi in a Red Wing jersey, not because he's a violent player, but because when he plays well he plays with a physical style that creates scoring chances both for himself and his teammates. I just hope that they don't rush him into playing games before he's fully recovered.

He will be back in 2-3 weeks. I think he might be aiming for around the 17th.

I'd like to add that power forwards were all the rage at the trade deadline, and there was/is a scare amount of them. Now the Wings finally get one of these coveted beuties, and people complain. I don't get the logic here people. We get a power forward like we've wanted, and then complain about something he did 3 years ago? It's just not making sense to me.

All this eye for an eye talk is nonsense, what's next? You barbarically suggest Bertuzzi gets his neck broken? You're judging this man on one mistake he made and looking rather foolish in the process.

Last I checked Bertuzzi was suspended from the league that year making him miss a playoff series were they played Calgary to 7 games nearly beating them. The same Calgary team that beat us and almost won the cup. Want to bet Bertuzzi could have better curved those odds for his Vancouver team? More importanlty than anything Bertuzzi was charged for assault resulting in a year's probation, 80 hours of community service and still has a 20 million dollar civil lawsuit being filed against him! I'm sick of people pretending there was no justice because he's still playing hockey. Moore could easily end up with more money through the court system than he ever would have made as a player, why can't you let this go?

P.S. BertuSHE is far and away the lamest insulting nickname I have ever heard, you're embaressing yourself saying it. Please discontinue using it, for your own sake.

It wasn't even Bert that did it. That was a freak accident that came after the blow. Does anyone look at the actual plays anymore?

I don't advocate his initial punch, because even with Moore refusing to engage him, that wasn't the right way to send a message. If he won't fight, level him later. I think it was foolish on Moore's part -not- to stand against Bert... honestly, it'd be a lot better to deal with the consequences in a fight than risk opposing team members trying to take a good run at you in retaliation later. That doesn't put the blame on him, of course, but it - like Bertuzzi's very bad decision to sucker punch him - factors into the whole disaster.

Anyway though, yeah, that's 2004. I don't even know why the press was asking about that in those practice photos put up on the board today. Let it go, people, what's done is done.

We get a premiere power forward and a grittier player (who can net 20 goals) for conditional picks, a junior prospect and J Williams.... And you are asking for Anson Carter??? He is a gritty player who fits in the energy/grind role very well. I know, most other teams hate him, he does turtle a lot, but I do appreciate his physical play. He reminds me of Ruutu a little. Ya hate to play against him but you would love him if he was on your favorite team!
