HAHA Nashville announcers are a riot

because Terry Crisp and his 3 cups don't know anything about hockey...

Because Terry Crisp said that Brett Hull would never make it as an NHL player and was responsible for him being traded from Calgary to St. Louis . . . please, STFU.

No announcer is worse than the radio play by play guy for Tampa Bay. Easily the biggest homer around.

This is a clip put together by Calgary's sports morning show. No word of a lie, this guy is for real.

Mishkin Memories

I quit after ten seconds. That is absolutely unbearable. LMAO nice catch.

here's some food for though...

They were hired by the Predators, to do broadcasts to the Preds local market. We're not talking about a national broadcast (unless you have CI). Every team has homer announcers.

And to say Crisp is an idiot for missing on Hull, I guess he's the only coach/gm in the history of sports to miss on a player. Your arguments are brilliant.

Every team does not have announcers like Nashville. Of course there is going to be some type of home team bias, but the Predators announcers even cal the Preds "we"- it's very unprofessional and I avoid them on NHL Center Ice at all costs.

All announcers are homers to some degree. Mickey Redmond isn't exactly impartial. But having watched a lot of local broadcasts over the years via Center Ice, Nashville's are easily among the worst. I sometimes wonder if these guys get fined for saying anything remotely negative about the Preds, even if it's true. Like one of their players might actually have committed a penalty.

As I said before, it often sounds like they picked a couple drunken fans out of the crowd to be commentators.

I actually think there could be something to that. There is a club policy at least among coaching and front office staff of not saying anything negative publicly. I think it's a pretty lame policy that needs to go. They should be able to sack up and criticize something once in a while.

edit: I think it rubs off on the fans too. I mean, people here might think i'm a preds homer, but you should see the people who never knew hockey before '98.

honestly you don't come off as any more of a preds homer than any of us would seem Wings homers on the Preds boards. I give you a lot of credit for defending your team here in a civil manner, when you're surrounded by Wings fans who are developing a growing hatred for Nashviille.

Honestly the Preds are a team I would probably really like, if not for a couple guys on the roster.

And I can only imagine how some of the newer fans must be. It's part of the growing pains of developing a new hockey market. Cheering an offsides because they think a penalty was called, extreme homerism, etc.

Please don't tell me you're equating success on the ice to success in the announcing booth.....

They are entirely different, he might know a lot about hockey (probably forgot more than I'll ever know honestly) but that doesn't mean he's a great announcer.

I think Crisper deserves some credit there actually, as he essentailly traded a prospect for a quality back-up goalie & and top 4 defenceman.... and the won the cup with them the next season.

Brett may have developed into a hall of famer, but I still do not think the flames lost in that trade.

Now don't get me wrong because I am not a Avs fan, but I don't think they're too bad. I have to watch a bunch of games at my work/home (not my choice), But anyways, I admit they'll celebrate or whatnot when they score, but they're not clueless when it comes to hockey

BTW it was only a point difference between the two. I guess you don't know how to add though

It was the game versus San Jose last month , back when there hot streak caught fire and they almost caught Calgary.

Legionairre, I'm sure you know the play I was talking about where Zanon took out Thornton leading to the 5 on 3. I'd like to ask you as a hockey fan, not a Wings fan or Preds fan, just a hockey fan. When that guy says "he just checked him!?" and he's feigning disgust like it shouldn't have been called and Crisp chimes in "it was shoulder to shoulder". What part of any of that makes any sort of sense when the fact remains you cannot check a player who doesn't have the puck?

They're acting like checking anybody, anywhere, regardless of the puck is totally cool. I didn't know whether I really heard that or if I was dreaming. I mean, did those 2 just completely forget hockey 101 or what. An appropriate commentary there would've been, "zanon broke up a potential odd man and scoring chance but he had to take Thornton out to do it" that would've made sense and shown some degree of rationality. What they said was the most blatant, retarded, homerism and another reason why I think that fat bastard, yeah, that's his new nickname (Crisper I don't mind) is one of the worst announcers in the game.

 I remember hearing him say that as well. That's what pisses me off the most is Crisp knows the damn rules, he just chooses to keep belching out homerish comments no matter what is displayed on the tv screen. Sometimes (most of the time) the Preds are at fault, but you'd never know it by watching Weber and Crisp.

"What? It was shoulder to shoulder?!"

Classic!

I didn't agree with their assessment on that one. If they wanted to put a positive spin on that, they could have said that it was a necessary penalty or something. But he clearly interfered with Thornton.

like I was just explaining to someone on the flyers boards. Pete and Terry are an aquired taste. I can understand why the people who don't listen to them every day would have a hard time taking a liking to them if they only watch once in a while.

But having met them both (only brief encounters at the arena), and hearing them every day on the radio away from the games I can say that these guys are great. Pete Weber is an all-sports guy, he can talk baseball, football, basketball, hockey, racing and probably any other sport you wanted to talk. And Terry Crisp is an old school hockey guy who has a million stories from his days with the broad street bullies, expansion blues and his years coaching calgary and tampa.

I know that a lot of people around the league consider them to be among the worst tandems out there, but I also know that they're both huge preds fans and it's just a matter of opinion weather someone considers that a good thing or a bad thing.

FWIW, they don't do the radio broadcasts anymore. Eli Gold and Jim McKenzie are doing those and do a wonderful job. They've definitely brought a different perspective than we've ever had in Nashville.

honestly, before i had ever read any internet bashing about the preds announcers or had ever heard them call a game or heard how bad they were, i was sitting with my family watching VanderVision (the VanderMale version of JoeVision..) and we muted the tv for the whole game and listened to Mickey on my brothers laptop. It was a completley unbiased decision cause its not like i knew how bad they were before hand, we just seriously could not handle them they got under our skin so fast that we made that we couldn't handle them anymore. Its not that they dont know anything about hockey. Its that they are so biased that i just wish somehow they knew how stupid they sound. I just wish they could call it even. You hear Mickey all the time disagree with calls the refs make against opposing teams and you'll hear him agree with some on us. I just wish the preds announcers weren't so biased is all.

one reason i've been thinking about for their huge bias is, as I said, they are obviously employees of the Predators. The situation is a little different here though. They came into a non-traditional market with an expansion team. So i'm sure somewhere in there, was an order that they try to play up the Predators, try to get the Preds into favor with the locals. If they had called the game objectively then a lot of people in those early seasons would have went away with more of an impression that the team just stank. But instead, most people believed in those first seasons that the Preds were one of the hardest working teams in the league, and were not your typical expansion team, that they were close to being competitive and they got picked on a lot by refs for being an expnansion club.

For any long time fans, they knew that the team was bad. But for casual fans getting their first taste of NHL hockey, maybe some of them came away feeling good about their team and became big fans during the past few seasons that the team has blossomed.

I also think that if that was their objective in the early years, it would be easy for them to fall into that character and keep it up for 10 years, it's probably magnified even moreso now that the team is actually good. I don't know, i'm probably just pulling excuses out of my butt, but it's just something i've been thinking about.

fair enough, idk why i got so offended by the altitude comment. I like watching Nugs games on there, but I always joke with my friends about how unprofessional the show can be. I think sometimes it is funny though

Some good points. Part of me thinks that Crisp would be much better without that other dolt. I'm sure he's well versed in sports and knows his stuff he's just irritating as all get out. I'd like to see Crisp call a game with somebody else. Maybe somebody completely impartial. Like throw a Darren Pang or somebody in there with him. Weber just baffles me sometimes.

You are right though, it would've been appropriate to play it up by saying Zanon took a very good penalty or had to do what he did to save a scoring chance against. I'll take your word for it that they've been there a long time and some habits form and whatnot because weber can't be as stupid as some of the things he utters makes him appear at times.

Not to make fun of people with weight issues but when I saw them last night I never really noticed how big weber is. Is that guy like a mountain of a man or what? He looks like he's a cool 300lbs. Hence my dubbing him fat bastard of the Austin Powers fame.

I think he's put on some more weight actually. Some games I watch and see him up there sweating I get seriously concerned for his health. Pete's cool though, every now and then he'll pop up on the preds boards and update us on a pressing concern, he reads them all the time, only posts once in a while though. Still, I doubt many other commentators around the league are so connected to their fans.

Well this wont matter for long because once Nashville loses this series and moves out of town to another city I am sure that Pete and Terry will be looking for new jobs anyways. lol!!!!
