Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 God, Babcock would be so stupid to sit Rex. Seriously, Mike? Don't do it. Flip and Hudler helped form our best puck possession and cycling line today.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Well, if we're judging by their performance tonight: Four Wings were on the ice for zero goals for tonight. Dan Cleary, Kris Draper, Danny Markov, and Mikael Samuelsson. Exactly one of those players is not on this team for his defensive prowess. Sit Sammy. If we're judging by performance during the regular season.... Sit Sammy by a large margin.
shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 if it aint broke don't fix it. We won the game so i would give Bert one more game to make sure he 100% before he plays. When he comes back my vote is to sit Sammy.
CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) Well, it should be Sammy, hands down. He takes waaaay too many pointless shots (pun not intended, but taken, anyway). How many times can a player shoot right at the crest of the goaltender? Pass once in a freakin' while!!! That being said, I fear that Rex may end up sitting, even though I feel he had a far superior game than Sammy tonight. Please take that clown off the pp point! Ugh. Babcock, prove me wrong. Sit Sammy! Edit: P.S. Impressed with the Pain Train's performance tonight. I think if he played like that all season, I wouldn't have any problem with him. Played a good stay at home defensive game tonight. Edited April 13, 2007 by CdnWingsFanEh
akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 my nod also goes to Sammy, who impressed me with his parade of 60ft shot from the same angle yesterday, and with having no will to chase the puck. and he was brutal at neutralizing entire Lazy and he sucks line. better than Flames D-men Rex on the other hand, was on his good level and I'd most certainly prefer to see him on the roster
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 I think most will say Sammy, but it will be Huds. Filp was far more impressive of the two. I saw easily just as many mistakes etc. come from Sammy, but of the younger two, Huds wasn't as impressive. That being said, I thought they had a great time with Franzen for a bit. Looked really strong in the first. Overall, just keep Filp in the game.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Rookie forwards make their mark Coach Mike Babcock will have to sit a forward, probably Hudler, once Bertuzzi recovers from a concussion suffered April 5. Bertuzzi skated on his own Thursday and is to undergo baseline testing again today.
Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Its a tricky one to call here. The 4th line of Flip Rex and Stein really set the ball rolling last night and gave the wings early momentum that was to be the deciding factor of the game. The goal they got was on their first shift together and also Rex set up the GW for Lids, if Bert is back on Sunday Babs has got a big headache. I wouldn't want to call it. Like many have suggested it looks like Rex, But a straight swap, Bert in for Sammy wouldn't be a bad thing either. The point argument with Sammy, I don't know. Lebs did well when he got more on the PP.
Turretin 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Couple of thoughts: With the strong win last night, it isn't unreasonable to be cautious with Bert and sit him for another game if necessary. However, if he does come back, I think Babcock should keep an eye on doing what's best for the franchise. As much as I prefer Hudler's play over Samuelsson's play, there is a more important reason to sit Sammy. You invest in your future. The reason Hudler and Flip made a couple mistakes out there is because that was their first taste of playoff hockey. I don't think anyone is planning on signing Sammy after this contract is up. Hudler on the other hand has the possibility to be a franchise player, or a great trade piece in the future. If we want to develop the Wings for years to come, we need to play our rookies in the playoffs. All things being equal, playing Hudler is a smarter decision for the future of the franchise. rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 How did Lids get the GW? Surely common sense says Flip effectively scored the winning goal for Detroit? SRSLY? Because Lidstrom scored the 2nd goal. And it took two goals to win, since Calgary only scored 1.
datsyukiandeke 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 as much as i hate sammy and his pointless shots, i did like the physicality of his play last night. Calgary is only gonna get better and throw the body around, so Sammy starts looking a little more appealing. Having said that, the hudler - flip - franz line was too good to mess with. sit sammy

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Nice luxury to have. We have to decided who to bench after a win. Even better is there is not glaring obvious choice!! Right on man. That's a damn good point!
DEVILSWATERBOY 10 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 this the the situation we have all seen coming... with Bertuzzi probably playing game 2... who out of the fwds will sit? i would not scratch Filpulla or Rex(Huds) cuz they both have been playing well... my choice would be either Cleary or Maltby... tough choice for the coach... my fwd lines... Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Calder - Lang - Bertuzzi Cleary - Draper - Sammy Franzen - Filpulla - Rex(Hudler)
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 The Wings' lines for game 1 were: Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Calder/Lang/Samuelsson Cleary/Draper/Maltby Hudler/Filppula/Franzen Calder/Lang/Samuelsson was the worst unit of the four. It's also where Bertuzzi would normally play. Swap out Sammy for Bert, and keep everything else the same. It doesn't get much simpler.
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Completely understand, but they didn't get their goal until it was 4-0. You see what I'm trying to say, right? Don't you DARE start this bulls***.... It's bad enough we get this clown coming around twice or thrice a year or so running around in circles about the game winning goal (and standings points) we don't need you doing the same! We scored 4. They scored 1. By rule our 2nd is the game winner. Period. End of discussion. Thanks for coming.

But, the game winning goal is always awarded this way. Zetterberg was tied for the regular season lead in GWG. This obviously does not mean that all 10 of these goals were late in the game to break a tie, or in overtime. Some could have been the 3rd goal in a 6-2 win, in a game where the Wings lead 6-0. This is just how they award GWG.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 No one has any right to say anything nasty about Lilja after tonight's game. He laid out a very nice hit at one point, blocked some shots, and didn't turn the puck over even once. Solid, solid outing for Andreas. True that. Rabs and I have agreed lately that Lil has actually started to find a place on this team- playing a more physical game, shoring up his puck control, not taking on more then he can chew and watching his form. Overall I think he'll be smart and find a niche to fill

Skip the games, just have shootouts during the regular season. Use that to decide who is playoff worthy.
