Let's not overlook ESPN's utter SJ fanboyism...

http://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=270428005

The Sharks made a rare mistake early in the third period with a Detroit-like giveaway.

ok, I get it, we give away the puck too often, but come on...

I realize ESPN is a popular target around here, but that article was written by the AP. And did you watch the first period? In case you missed it, we specialized in giving the puck away at the blueline. They did it so often it must have been in the game plan.

Thank god for Dan Cleary. Only player on the ice for the Wings (well, maybe Flip too) who is forechecking HARD on EVERY shift. I've been saying since last season he is a brilliant PKer....but he's really, really stepped up his 5-on-5 play too.

Yeah, but why should the article only focus on the first period, when the Wings played good the rest of the game? I know the Wings are the most hated team in the NHL, and nothing would please the media more then to watch the Wings crumble and fall apart, but shouldn't there be some sort of limitations on these article? All these articles ever focus on is the negative side of things. I don't get it.

Criticize the article all you want. Just don't criticize ESPN for writing it. Doesn't make sense to.

just read the "recap" on nhl.com and dan cleary said, "Zetterberg and Datsyuk won us the game."

he is a modest MF!!!

cleary has been by far and away our best forward in the playoffs this year.

it's been said ad infinitum, but Dan Cleary is the story of these playoffs (and season, really). Did you see the post-game interview? It was very touching. He's so grateful for this chance -- it really is literal with him, when you say "he plays his heart out." It's what hockey is all about, really. Dan's the man.

To the folks saying they can't believe how negative people were being after we went down early -- we had every reason to be negative; the Wings were AWFUL.

That they had such a strong, clutch finish after that early performance is insane.

Oh quit trying to bail yourself out. Your just feeling guilty for your armageddon posts. Its a sixty minute game. Did they look dead in the water? Sure, but the biggest benefit that the Wings have that is overlooked is that SJ is a young team and psychologically can have a bigger wall to climb to get out of situations like today if the ice shifted the other direction.

Agreed. He has really sparked the team, methinks.

Just got in and saw you guys evened up the series. Congrats!! Let's see if the whine fest starts from Mrs. Wilson now.

I think that Mr. Cleary and Mr. Datsyuk, put a little sand in Mr. Wilson's panties!

This game was torture for me. I tried to watch as much of it as possible but managed to miss all the goals.

I had to go to a fancy long lunch for my grandparents's 50th anniversary that started at 3:00. I finally got back during the 2nd intermission and got to at least check the score, but right when they dropped the puck, I got called out to have my picture taken over and over again. When I came back in again, it was 2-2. I got to watch for about a minute, until my Grandma decided to open her gifts. Well she's the kind of person who reads every card out loud and tells a story about each one. So I finally got back to the TV to find the Wings congratulating Hasek.

Does anyone know how to watch the CBC archived version if you're not in Canada?

This is my post from the GDT:

I just got a call about an hour ago and I'm going to the game today! WHOOP WHOOP! What's even better is I'm going with my uncle and the wings are 8-0 when he has went to games this year including game 1 vs calgary!

The wings are now f'n 9-0 when my uncle goes! Crazy! My Wings record this season is 6-0-1 also pretty impressive! This by far was the most intense game I have ever been to. The wings for some reason suck for the first 10 minutes but then fricken turn on the switch and play a great final 50 minutes (just like game 1). There goal should be to shut down the sharks early.

wow what a game!

i dont remember a time when i was so excited to watch a game the way the Wings kept coming back and played solid after the shaky start and never looked back.

this proved a whole lot for this series.

the Wings can most certainly hang with the big bad sharks.

as we all should know, the Wings just can't start the way they did the first two games in san jose, so im saying it now, id be nothing but thrilled in a detroit split in san jose.

dan cleary = heart of a lion

Didn't really cash in my opinion on this game yet as we've hit the point of the playoffs were I start developing eccentric little superstitions. My current one's involve me staying out of the GDT and wearing my wings hat as much as possible between games. If we win the next game I'll likely end up adding something else too, anyways.

We were absolutely man-handled early on in this game, I had to avert my attention into other things to keep myself from punching my television set. I was so pumped going into this game and to have them score on that deflection 30 seconds into the game felt like someone smashed me in the gut. I won't lie I went into panic mode after the second goal, thought that we were gonna be lucky to win a single game this series. Thankfully we got a bit better as the period went on and were a whole new animal the rest of the game, it was like a prayer of mine was answered when Zets ended up getting a bounce off of Nabby's foot into the net. The energy in the Joe tripled after that too, it was like a funeral beforehand.

The way things were going I had hard time watching every moment of the game so I stepped out intermittently into my garage to work out a bit. Especially when the Sharks went on the power play, so at the start of the third I was outside doing criss-crosses on my speed rope when I heard one of my neighbors from a few houses down shout out a celebratory "YEAH!!!" Getting the hunch it might of had something to do with the game I rushed back indoors to catch a replay of Cleary's short hander. After that I was so pumped a crowbar couldn't have pried me from my TV. When Dats banked in that rebound I practically overextended a muscle in my arm I pumped my fist up in the air so emphatically, then proceeded to jump around a bit. For the first time I find myself somewhat optimistic about this series.

I'm hoping for a split at the tank and with the day off hopefully get the needed rest for some of our injured to recuperate, go into the Joe and take the lead on the series. Still feel we have one hell of a mountain to climb but this game really made my day.

All i can say is, OH HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cleary, Dats, and Z are freaking awesome. But I also think that Hasek needs to play alot better for us to win this series, just my 2 cents.

if he plays anything like he did the at the end of the 2nd period and the 3rd period, we'll be in excellent shape in my opinion

Oh absolutely, but he needs to get in the game early and not let in a bad goal. Dom has always had the ability to steal a game and he still has it, all I am saying is that we are going to need him to steal a game or two for the Wings to win this series. Right now its a Best of 5, so which ever team comes out and wants it will get those 3 wins they need to advanced. I believe that Hasek is playing good hockey, but not as good as he can play. Hasek is the X-factor, he will make or break this team, and I believe that he will excell this team to the next round. GO WINGS!!!

Very pissed off about the Boos coming in the Joe ( I thought only fans from Canada did that) I guess everyone is pissed off about the ticket prices then.

All said, this is the playoffs, and anything goes. I think that we have a playoff team and they seam to show that. The Tank will not matter.

GO WINGS!!!

With Mark "the Useless" Bell in the lineup, I concede this game to the Mighty Mighty Red Wings. His level of suckage is not to be believed. Hopefully, I shall be proved wrong, but I do not have high hopes.

I hate to say I told you so, but.....

Way back at the start of the GDT I conceded victory to the Wings in Game 2 due to the insertion of Mark Bell into the line-up. While Bell only registered as a -1 on the day, his linemate Patty Marleau went -3 for the game. As one of my fellow posters on the Feeder noted, "Bell destroys Patty..it is like the whole team knows that he is going to screw up soon so they are off their game when he plays, second guessing and trying to cover for him as well as play their own positions." Below are my post-game thoughts on Mr. Bell as I expressed them on the Feeder, for those of you not fortunate enough to have registered there already... ;)

He's like a black hole. He just sucks the life out of whomever is playing with him. And like a black hole, there is no escape.

Rather than dress Bell, here are a few options than RW could try....

1) Play Baby Joe

2) If Baby Joe isn't well, then play Smitty.

3) If Smitty can't go, put Davison on wing.

4) If you don't like that idea, dress 7 D and put Murray out there.

5) If that's not an option, THEN PLAY WITH ONLY 17 SKATERS DRESSED BECAUSE PLAYING A MAN DOWN IS STILL INFINITELY BETTER THAN PLAYING WITH BELL ON YOUR ROSTER.

He just makes my brain hurt. Ugh. <_<

Trust me -- a LARGE quantity of Sharks fans simply HATE this guy. It's like he's cursed when he dons our sweater. If you want him, you can have him -- I ask nothing in return, not a draft pick or even a bag of pucks, all I ask is that you take his salary off our hands to free up cap space. Any thing else is addition by subtraction.

For the love of god I pray that he's out of the line-up for Game 3, otherwise, you'll win that one, too.

Oh quit trying to bail yourself out. Your just feeling guilty for your armageddon posts.

I'm in no way trying to "bail myself out," nor am I feeling the least bit guilty. The Wings were playing s***ty hockey, and I and others said as much. Granted, many went overboard in doing so, but seriously, enough with the "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW PEOPLE WERE FREAKIN' OUT. SHAME ON YOU" posts.

According to the flight tracker, the Wings land at San Jose airport in about 10 minutes, why did they stop in Colorado on the way? http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N682RW Credit is due to who originally posted this link, pretty cool thanx.

Just wouldn't feel like playoff hockey without a stop in Denver, and they stopped just long enough to toss an octopus onto the roof of the Pepsi Center to give Turnip fans a taste of what they're missing.
