Rice 42 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 ...$2MM is TOO much... ...what-a-waste... You're right. We should've given that $2 million to a marquee forward like Adam Hall! Hasek's a top 5 goalie in the league. $2 million is a bargain.

If we would have signed this a week ago we may have got some other free agents. god damn you Hasek. This is ridiculous.....posts like this make me wonder what kind of fan base we have??? A future (and present) Hall of Fame golalie for 2M.....great deal. The delay in signing does not change the fact that long term and large dollars for tier 2 type players is not a smart move. People have to remeber that this is not PS3...you can hit re-start after you F it up!

People have to remeber that this is not PS3...you can hit re-start after you F it up! I am saying that this contract wasn't one that required arguing over. This should have been done before July 1st, and Hasek had to be the one to blame for it not getting done. If it was taken care of then you would see we got like 6 million left, which we could have used on some free agent. Now we just have 6 million left and no one to use it on. Are you guys so stupid you can't see that the order really screwed us up? The same moves in a different order could have made the world of difference. BTW PS3 sucks don't even think that I play that crap. Also I am a big and loyal fan who knows it. I know Hasek is a hall of famer, and I also know that he could have been signed for under 1.5 million, and while the 500k or so doesn't really hurt us this year, the fact that he could make millions next year could ruin next years offseason. The problem here is if he signed before free agency, we would have had Brian sign and then could have made a pitch to other players to come here with the money we had, instead of Holland being most concerned and tied up in signing Hasek. StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 (edited) If you read any article out there they say the problem was the bonuses. They knew what they were going to spend on Hasek and probably weren't going to go over that 2.5-3mil range. So that leaves about 5-6mil to spend on a forward. Tell me one guy who was signed for that price or less that they should have signed? They wern't going to spend more than $3mil on Bert. Kariya worth 6mil? I can't think of one guy out there that was worth the money he got. Holland went a little high on Rafalski but that was because of losing Schneider and I think we all saw how they missed him in the playoffs. From Mlive: "Just to make one thing clear, in response to that first reader's comment below, this deal had no affect on the Wings' strategy or ability to sign anyone else. They had agreed for some time that Hasek would get a base salary in the $2- to $2.5 million range, and they were able to budget accordingly. The bonus structure was holding up the deal, according to general manager Ken Holland, and that has to affect on the 2007-08 cap, that money goes against the following season's cap." SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Groovy cool. $2,000,000 is more than fair given that Hasek is still a health risk even though he passed all those tests last season along with all that he's accomplished over the years. Glad to have him back in a Wings uni for his one last shot at a Cup (I am assuming ).

Because signing free agents is just that simple in 3-D land, just like in video games, right? Look I'm with you that it would've been nice that Hasek could've signed earlier, but these deals don't just "happen" overnight, it's called negotiating and you want to value what you think you are worth compare to other people who perform your job, just like in any career, hockey or computer programming or whatever else. That takes time to figure out.
JayUp88 1 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 I don't care what anyone says here, 2 mil for Hasek is a damn good deal. we had him for nothing last year and this year we still have him for nothing. he could have left town and made double at lest what he is making here but he didn't want to. he wanted to stay in Detroit. we should be happy to have him in our net again for only 2 mil

And I was just thinking. Depending on the "veteran" forward they pick up between now and the start of the season they could have a lot of money for deals to be done throughout the year. Out of everyone we lost Lang might actually be the biggest loss. Think about it. They basically replaced Schneider. Calder and Bert weren't here most of the regular season. Williams was inconsistent. So most of the parts that were here for the regular season are still here. They'll be fine. Edited July 6, 2007 by StevieY9802
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 (edited) Obviously, this is great to hear. There's no better goalie in the league in comparison to the price tag then what the Wings are paying for Hasek's services. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 With bonuses, the deal can grow to over $4 million. I'm assuming (or hoping) based on how far the Wings go in the playoffs is a big chunk of it. Would that count against this year's cap, or next?

dteowner 20 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Next year's cap, since the value isn't determined until the season is over. I'm a little scared to be putting even $2mil into a 42 year old goalie with a history of groin problems. That said, as much as I like Ozzie, the team plays better (more confident) in front of Dom. If Dom can stay healthy like this past season, we've gotten a steal. That's a pretty shaky "if" in my book.

I was worried that if it counted against the cap this year, Holland would had to leave room in case those bonuses kicked in, effectively making Dom's cap hit 4+ million this season.
