Sweet. Was the trend to do an outdoor game started by the UofM-MSU Cold War, or was it someone else in recent history, like Mystery, Alaska vs the NY Rangers? shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2007 I love the old school jersey idea. I wish that more teams would pull out vintage sweaters more often. Maybe do it with the original six when they meet. I would have to imagine that the NHL is pulling for the outdoor game based on the the EDM and MON game from a few years. That whent pretty well. I think tha they should change the date of the game since you will be going head to with bowl games.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 4, 2007 I hate both of those jerseys, but the good thing is no RBK Edge s*** at the outdoor game. BTW, why is this outdoor game with Pittsburgh and Buffalo? It'd make more sense to have Detroit or Boston against Montreal or Toronto.

From what I've read, they want do a game with Detroit and Toronto. Most likely in Toronto due to the erratic weather in Michigan. Personally, I'd like to save things like this for the O-6 teams. It would be a great way to rekindle the rivalries.

I don't think Toronto has a stadium to do it in, though. Rogers Stadium does have a retractable roof, but I think they keep it closed in the winter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've heard. Edited November 4, 2007 by Kp-Wings

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've heard. I have no idea if there is an actual rule about keeping it closed during the winter, but if they do, it could simply be due to weather than an actual rule. Also, I'm not aware of any major sporting events played there during the winter. But hey, they could always play at Exhibition stadium or whatever it is called now (where the soccer team plays). Yeah, Rogers Centre roof is sealed shut for the winter. I think the Leafs proposed a BMO Field game against Ottawa or Montreal for this year, but the league would only do it if they played Pittsburgh and on a date and time targeted at U.S. viewers, and the Leafs backed out of it. They still want to do one, but they want it to be a Hockey Day in Canada game, preferably.

DEVILSWATERBOY 10 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 If there was an original 6 team or at least a team out of the West I would watch this game other than that I have no intrest in this. Do we actually think that alot of Canadian fans are going to watch this game without a Canadian team playing lets be realistic it is a great idea but not well thought out

Do we actually think that alot of Canadian fans are going to watch this game without a Canadian team playing lets be realistic it is a great idea but not well thought out They don't care about Canadian viewers for this one. It's all about drumming up some interest in the U.S. and trotting Crosby out on a big stage on a major network. Canadians will watch because very, very few Canadians would pick a college football game over a hockey game, especially one with the kind of circumstances that this one carries. I am a Wings fan and this game has no reflection on the West what so ever do you honestly believe that a hockey fan from Duckland or Dallas gives a rats but about this game no becuase it does not affect thier teams what so ever and further more the 2 teams are in th East and most of there viewers for this will be Sabers or Pen fans both small market teams I could see maybe the Rangers and Pens it would have more of an intrest bescuase of the bigger market in New York in other words if the league wants to promote the sport they need to include both confrences when doing games like this. Not intrested and don't care about these 2 teams I would rather watch paint dry.

raidedredwing2 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 I think the marketing for the NHL is really going to hell these days. Expecially when it comes to these jerseys. All this hype about RBK Edge performance Uniform System... that ripp with the slightest tug, and limits range of motion, abolishing the 3rd jersey. But now allowing 2 teams to wear a throwback jersey. I figured the NHL would make a standpoint on that. Not to mention that the RBK Edge jerseys will go back to the old material next season.
