could he be our 2nd line scoring winger?

personally, i say no..

anyway i'm sure some other team will pick him up before we do, since 29 teams pick before us.

I went to a Devils-Penguins game earlier this year. I went up close and watched the pregame warmup and honestly, Recchi impressed me the most. Granted it was only in warmup and he hasn't done anything this year, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in a winged wheel. I'm sure somebody will claim him before we get a chance though.

2nd line winger? If he can't score playing with Crosby and Malkin this year, then he can't score anywhere. Why do you think he was put on waivers? It's not because the Penguins are trying to do favors for the rest of the league. Recchi played well last year, but everyone's got to go sometime, and this year is his time. He's 40 years old, so there's nothing for him to be ashamed about.

I don't think he'll make it past everyone else, but if he did, I say go for it. There's not much risk, if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Detroit seems to have a magical way of rejuvenating veterans who are supposedly "done."

It's unfortunate, but this is what tends to happen with guys that hang on a little too long. He has been a healthy scratch for several games now and the Pens are starting to win without him in the lineup.

Pens fans complained about him all the time even last year and the year before when he was still putting up points. Most suggest that he was only putting up respectable numbers because he was on Crosby's line. There is some truth to that of course, but it is difficult to argue against when he is one of the leading scorers on the team. He was taken off Crosby's line earlier in the year and he continued to spiral until ultimately he was taken out of the lineup all together.

Looks like the Pens are trying to do the same with Recchi that they did with Leclair. Roberts and Sydor are other guys that are aging and not doing well anymore. With Roberts, most feel he will turn it on near the end of the season and for the playoffs, but right now, he's not helping the team too much.

He ASKED the Pens to trade him. Undoubtedly they didnt put him on waivers cause they thought he was a heaping pile. They probably couldnt work out a deal for him and decided to put him on waivers, knowing some team would probably pick him up. Every team in this league probably has at least one guy Recchi could replace.

as usual, I say no to thread #1092798325 with question whether Wings should pick a guy way past his primes and looking more like heading for retirement than for a hockey game.

could we stop this, please?

The Pens also have Gary Roberts...so stay tuned!

Well the one upside here is that this is not a bring back an old red wing thread,

but nonetheless I say no to Recchi!

If this were last season, I would be like hell yes! But Recchi has been virtually non-existant for the Pens. In fact, he has been a healthy scratch for them the past 3 games. IMO Recchi has lost a step. I would rather have Ellis out there. But im sure there has to be some team out there that has interest in Recchi. Guess we'll find out soon.

I Will Say Yes. Bring Him In.

With our injury bug hitting us. we could use a veteran forward to play a similar role as of drakes. i wouldnt object, but i wouldnt be estatic over the move.. we shall see.. i see someone else snaging him though.

I hate seeing vets go out this way. Is it wrong that I wish he'd just retired rather than having to be waived like this? What a cruddy way to end a great career.

It happened to LeClair last year, and Andreychuck the year before that.

What are you talking about? Half the people on this forum think that Drake should be a healthy scratch. We don't need another guy like that. And no, I don't want to see another 40 year old man in a Wings uniform dropping the gloves, which is really all that Drake has done here.

Drake has 2 fights.. how is dropping the gloves all he does?

Recchi coming in on the 4th line is a major improvment over having Koko,Ellis,Downey in the lineup.. he is proven nhl player, knows the in and outs of hockey and can really add another demention to our line up that ellis downey cant.

By drakes role i meant, Being an healthy scratch some games, keeping him fresh. use his experience in the nhl to help mold and shape our younger kids.. not drop the mits play with wreckless abandon.

If it dosnt work out.. it dosnt work out.. waive him the way the penguins did.. bringing him in to see if he can help us isnt going to hurt us in anyway shape or form
