Anyone Miss Lang?

Rate this topic

Definitely not... When I was at the Wild game and I believe Sammy had a turnover, I thought to myself "Wow, I'm glad we still don't have Lang." Then when someone else didn't hustle to the puck and let a Wild player get it, I thought to myself "Wow, I'm glad we still don't have Lang." It seemed to have been a common thought when I saw a Wings player sucking it up out there.

I was watching a classic NHL game on NHL Network the other day. It was the Caps when he was still with them vs the Rangers (if I recall correctly).

I do recall correctly that he had one horrible turnover at his own blue line that resulted in an easy goal for the other team.

It brought back many memories and refreshed my faith that Bobby Lang not being a Red Wing can only benefit the Wings in the long run.

lang? lang, lang lang, OH! the pylon that had a wings jersey on? nope, dont miss him at all

No no no... that was Larry Murphy who was the pylon... Lang was the one that would score goals in clutch times when the rest of the team wouldn't :yahoo:

There is a perfect explanation for Lang's success in Chicago. In Detroit he was the fat, lazy bum on a team full of hard-working veterans. Also, we have ruthless fans, and expect a lot out of the Wings every year.

In Chicago, he is a veteran playing on a team full of young players that look up to him. Not that much is expected either of him or of the team, hence there's no pressure on him.

I don't miss him directly. I miss the void he left being filled. That is, a legit second line scoring threat. No, neither Rex nor Flip fill that roll. The Wings need that second line production in a bad way, they won't get far in the playoffs without it. And like any true Wings fan, I know that bringing home Lord Stanley is the only important thing. Making the playoffs just doesn't cut it.

Agreed. Lang was fulfllling that role less and less himself, so it was definitely time for him to go. But there's still the void there, though Flip and Hudler have done pretty well.

I was going to say that you spoke too soon, but amazingly, you typed that at a point in time where 3/4 of the goals scored in tonights game were by them.

They have gotten better and better all season. I was going to say Hudler especially (24 points in 35 games), but Filppula has elevated his game with 7 goals in the last 9 games. Are these not 2nd line numbers?

It also amazes me that anyone at all can look at the best offense, defense, goaltending, and individual performances, together on one team, and clamour for more. Settle!

Wow...now that you mention it....I never realized how much more energy this team seems to play with now that hes gone. I mean...every forward line we have now is so hardworking that Id forgotten what a lazy and apathetic game he played. Not to mention those flubbed passes that were constantly blocked or picked off. The only player that even comes close to Lang is Sammy, and he still plays with energy and defensive awareness most nights (but those blocked passes/shots need to stop..)

So do I miss him? Absolutely not. Id much prefer the breakout performances of Flip and Hudler to Langs lazy ass eating up ice time he doesnt deserve.

I think it's because we've seen the Wings dominate in the regular season so many times before, yet come up short in the postseason.

I love that they're on a roll now, and that Huds and Flip are stepping up, but I still think this team could use more nastiness on D, and a seasoned scorer on that second line. That or hopefully someone on that 2nd line will establish themselves as a constistent postseason threat on the 2nd line.
