Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Also, dom is #10 in GAA in the league, I bet it won't be long before we have both our goalies in the top 8 on the main page. Shame Ozzie lost the shutout. Good game by our team though. Z looked great. Shame I'll barely get the end of Saturday's game, if at all.
HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I'm pretty sure Turco has nightmares about the Wings. Poor kid. You think he wakes up in the middle of the night screaming and crying? Probably. Great job by the boys tonight. I'm so glad Z is back and hasn't missed a beat. Our team really is fire on ice this year. (So lame.)

I can't recall, but I think it might have been some wag in this very forum last season who said "If Marty Turco fell on the ice and split his head open, Red Wings would spill out." Bet I get to see Smith in goal on Saturday in Dallas. Betcha!

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Thoroughly impressed with this game. The Wings just made the 2nd best team in the West and 3rd best in the league overall look like the Iowa Stars of the AHL, not the Dallas variety.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) Thoroughly impressed with this game. The Wings just made the 2nd best team in the West and 3rd best in the league overall look like the Iowa Stars of the AHL, not the Dallas variety. The Stars were actually more like the Iowa Stars than the Dallas Stars tonight, missing Zubov and Boucher, and playing at least three or four rookies and sophomores -- Conner, Fistric, Grossman, and Eriksson, that I can name off the top of my head. Their rookie Eriksson, scored the only goal, set up by Fistric, playing in just his third game on recall from the AHL. Stars won't make the mistake of playing Turco again at home on Saturday, and Zubov is slated to return. It will not be a good time for the Wings to take the night off. The Stars will be waiting for them. Edited January 3, 2008 by puckloo39

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) Sidenote: I blame you puckloo for the SO being broken. I would've picked a different emoticon actually. i mean, who the f*ck says "shutout" in a GDT before the game is over? Gee, do you think she'd do that if her hero were in net?? Great game by the Wings. It's unfortunate that even with her on ignore, I can still barely stand these Game Day Threads. PenaltyShot 96 521 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Awesome start to the new year, congrats to Downey on his first point as a Wing and to Drake on his first goal as a second time Wing. Loved Ozzie's game, especially the diving save to stop the weird bounce off the side boards. He deserved the shutout, but what can he do with Ken and Mickey talking about shutouts during a game? Also loved the postgame interview where Ozzie said all of The Nickage's accomplishments are getting boring

datsFan40 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Not to get side-tracked here, but i just keep noticing it more and more, especially after this game...but please tell me someone agrees with me, but I do not like Sammy one bit. I know this thread belongs on the 'Samuelsson does not fit in thread' but whatever it fits here to since i confirmed the following after tonight's game: 1.) He doesn't pass 2.) Correction, he passes once every game, and it's untimely, forced and rarely gets to the receiving end. 3.) His shooting is untimely. ( we are on a power play and rather then make the safe play and keep the puck moving to the point, he decides to try to shoot the puck THROUGH turco, therefore causing a needless faceoff). 4.) He still doesn't pass. 5.) He will never pass. But seriously, I feel bad for Hudler, because he knows the game so well, shoots, but looks to pass more almost too much, and then when he looks for it in return from Sammy, it's either a terrible pass or he doesn't pass at all and instead shoots it into the goalies chest (hard,) but in the goalies chest, or misses the net. I just am not pleased with him at all, and needs to be dealt.

I don't believe in jinxes and that sort of stuff anyway. As if I have the power to change the outcome of a game... I would have used my magic prowess to have someone in a Wings sweater show up and score 4 goals for Dom on NYE, if that were the case.

You know what though Loo, there are a lot of people in here that do. You may not believe in it, but you should respect the fact that others view it as hockey tradition to not use that word on gameday until it comes to fruition or its proven otherwise. I have threatened banning for others who have used the "S" word on game day. Let me check with Matt to see if we can add it to the forum guidelines.

OK, you have a point. If one does believe in such things, it's not like it hasn't happened to both goalies more than once. I typed out a more comprehensive answer to this but erased it in deference to those who are offended by what I really think. Everybody pile on!! Dom and I are used to it by now. Go, Ozzie!! I wish you were playing in Dallas on Saturday. I really do. Edited January 3, 2008 by puckloo39

Of course I don't think her saying it really affected the outcome of Ozzy's shutout. But you just don't do it. And she knows that, which is exactly why she did. It never would've happened with Dom between the pipes. It's yet another example of her petty, fake support for Ozzy, and therefore the Red Wings. When Ozzy gets a shutout, she points out how few shots he faced while pretending to congratulate hiim. When he wins a game, she laments how the Wings didn't score that way for Dom. When he's on the verge of a shutout, she says it while the game is still going. Or points out how depleted the opponent's lineup is. When hasek plays well, she whines about where are all the haters now... It's all about Hasek, not the Red Wings. It's why she stopped coming here last time he retired, and was all over the Senators board when he played for them, and is now here because Dom came back. It has nothing to do with the Red Wings. That just happens to be who Hasek is playing for. all of which I could give a rat's ass about if I could still read a Game Day Thread that actually talks about the game, has some hockey analysis from Red Wings fans, without all the mopey, whiny passive aggressive b.s. /rant
