Swayze 81 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Yes Generals tickets are a little less expensive, and the IMA only has a capacity of like 4,400-ish compared to what like 10,000 for Van Andel? BUT, the generals sold out every home game Mac was here for, so ya never know.

BUT, the generals sold out every home game Mac was here for, so ya never know. Actually they didn't. I was at every home game (except his first game there) and there were plenty of seats left. It would have been nice to see them sell out every game.

Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I agree, but the concourse wasn't that full either. If they were sold out, then people who had tickets didn't come. Believe me, it didn't have a sold out feel at all.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Griffs tickets are really not badly priced the other day I had four tickets four rows behind the players bench and it was $115ish foir everything!
Icer 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) I picked up 4 tickets for Friday's game at lunch today. By the way, Friday is Library Night. Show your KDL or Grand Rapids library card and upper deck tickets are $5 each. Students can get lowers for $10. It's also $1 beer and $1 dog night. It looks like they also have a web coupon good for $10 lowers or $5 uppers. Edited February 12, 2008 by Icer

redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 does anyone know if the wings can bring mccarty up for some of these games? or does his tryout contract with the griffins prevent him from playing for the wings until he's actually signed? If they can bring him up, they really should. he could be critical in breaking out of the slump.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 1. No. 2. The Wings would have to sign him to a contract. 3. No, he wouldn't.

Opie 308 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 1. No. 2. The Wings would have to sign him to a contract. 3. No, he wouldn't. 100% correct. Better question how quickly will the people who are screaming for his return turn on him if he comes to Detroit and proves he should have stayed retired or in GR. Remember folks, right now he is playing like his life depends on it, against AHL talent. I would love it if the old D-mac returned to the wings, but you are looking at a guy that is older, slower, and softer (still pretty tough for this team) than he used to be. Booster313 138 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Have any of you who are weighing in on McCarty even seen him play this year? He's not going to come in and be the top six forward we are looking for but I guarantee he would log more minutes than Drake or Downey. I equate his skating to Chelios. He's not very fast but it's rare when he gets beat because he's smart on the ice. Then there is the X factor. McCarty has something to prove and that counts for a lot. Mors 201 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 I don't see why there would be so much skepticism about bringing McCarty back...Drake has 4 points and is -7 in 47 games, what is the risk here? McCarty going to be more useless?
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Honestly? Yes. Since when has McCarty even played a wink on the PK? At least Drake does that, and at least he's more prone to the bigger hit. I certainly don't have an axe to grind against McCarty (I think it's FANTASTIC what he's done up to this point), I just don't see a fit for him on this team. At all. esteef 2,679 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 I love this thread, the more people say he can't do it and he shouldn't be able to make it, the more he does it. IHL? - Check! Scoring in the AHL? - Check! Fighting (and winning) a prior NHLer? - Check! Speed and endurance - Work In Progress! Keep 'er goin' MAC!!!!! esteef
bringback91 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) I've seen a whole hell of alot of "no this won't work", "no he sucks and is old" (BTW you don't have to be 19 and 6-5 to be a good hockey player) so on and so forth but not a whole lot of suggestions. Seems to be this thinking that the only good players or fits can't have prior seasons with the Wings on thier career stats. I agree rushing a Mac return isn't the answer, but neither is writing the guy off simply cause he played here before. He's still got alot to prove, but how can you not be at least slightly impressed with his progress so far? I think it's an awesome sign. I also love the whole "it's only the AHL" arguement. Like it's one step above fraiser leauge adult hockey or something. Although many didn't even think he'd get this far. If you ask me what Dmac is displaying is exactly what the Wings need. Heart, dedication, the will to succeed when everyones writing you off and telling you it's no use. To me it's a 50-50 shot at Dmac coming back to the Wings, I hope he does. I've seen Gratton's (big E jr.) name thrown around as the new saviour, just as Lindros, Bert, Doan, Witt and some others have been in the past. Not too long ago Gratton was the most overpaid, overrated player in the leauge, but at least he never played for the Wings before right? I just think it's silly to be so quick to rip others opinions down but than not to offer up some of your own for evaluation. Everyone complains that the only possible reason for wanting players like Feds or Mac to come back is nostalgia, while i think for some that's the only reason they don't want them back. If the Wings can find players better suited to fill those rolls than by all means do it for sure, but the fact that the Wings brass haven't simply dismissed these players as possiblitys should tell you something. But than again 3 cups in 10 years also isn't good enough for some either. Edited February 18, 2008 by bringback91
Mors 201 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 This might have been posted earlier in the thread, but the recent Griffin's game article, the picture and caption is priceless: http://griffinshockey.com/newsstats/releas...?article_id=990 "Darren McCarty separates Alex Henry from his tooth during a second-period brawl." redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 i don't expect mac to be a 1st of 2nd liner. that said, if babcock and holland decide to to make a mojor move at the tdl, then why the hell wouldn't you sign him? he'd come cheap and its not like you'd be playing him every game. a little depth couldn't hurt this team. i think everyone who likes the mac comeback idea, knows he's not the same player he was 10 years ago. but he def has a better scoring touch than drake, ellis, and kopecky. (bet i get slammed for that comment)

russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Does anybody know whether or not signing McCarty means he needs to pass through waivers before he can be activated, because I think that Robitaille had to do that when he was signed by Ottawa, and I'm not sure he would pass through waivers unclaimed....
