I'm really enjoying watching Howard in net there. I like the way he moves, very clean and crisp and he moves for the rebound shot quickly.

Unfortunately there's more to goaltending than just looks, that's why these slick butterflyers aren't leading the league in goals against like some. hint hint

what a beautiful game! nothing like whipping the wings!

Hang in there Wings fans, preds had a 6 game slide and a 5 game slide earlier this season so I know what you're feeling. But come on, this is the Detroit Red Wings, they'll come back out of this and dominate again. For your sake it's better to slump now and then hit your stride again for the playoffs.

Amen to that! It's nice to see from an outside perspective.

Really? Who's leading the league in GAA now? :)

Some nights the defense gets the blame, some nights the goalie does. Some say GAA is a product of defense -- but strangely, for other goalies, it's all about the goalie. Depends on who's out there in net, and whose opinion you share.

Wings were not ready to play at all vs the Preds. Jimmy Howard was the only one excited enough to actually put forth an effort. If the Wings don't have a change of attitude by Friday, they will get another dose of the same medicine.

This nonsense about not being able to show up against division rivals... well, I guess it's good the Cup finals will be vs. a team from the other conference.

Left out to dry is an understatement...

we aren't talking about somebody slipping behind the d at the blue line and coming in on an odd man rush. We are talking about the Preds having time to Setup in our zone and allow them to slip a man (or two for one of them) behind our D to get an uncontested shot at the goalie.

What do i call that? A pathetic defensive effort!

Couldn't agree more with you

They still had a decent group of players left over from Leopolds fire sale. Erat, Dumont, Arnott, Radulov, Weber (been injured most of the season)to name a few. Trotz probably has done his best job this season, but hard to say if he gets the Jack Adams. Phoenix was horrible, and if they make the playoffs or get close, I think he gets it. They were horrible to say the least. Montreal has been a resurgance this season as well, tradition will be in the writers heads when they consider that one. Nashville gets little exposure around the league , I think they have on Versus appearance, not sure about TSN or Sportsnet, im sure its more than Gretzky's team....Montreal on the other hand is shown throughout Canada all the time.... Will be interesting to see what happens.

Yeah its really too bad. Trotz, in my opinion, is the most underrated coach in the NHL. He's been with the team since the beginning and all of the progress made belongs to him. They play us a few weeks from now on NBC, so they will get a chance to get some national exposure.

The firesale left Nashville without several of their best players. But something alot of people forget is that Nashville has been playing without Steve Sullivan since last March. He's been one of the leaders since he arrived at Nashville (a hat-trick in his first game). He is Nashville's best pure scorer and they lose alot of offense with him out of the line up.

Alot of the main guys have realy stepped up (Dumont and Radulov have been spectacular, Arnott having another solid season). But what has really impressed me is the role players that have stepped up. Scott Nichol has been red hot over the past few weeks. Jed Ortmeyer has become great on the penalty-killer. Greg Zanon and Dan Hamhuis both have really stepped up. Even Jordin Tootoo had been great before his injury. Guys you'd never expect to be key players have stepped up their play.

I don't know if this has been brought up yet or not, but I thought it was interesting that Babcock gave the guys the day off today. He acknowledged that they're burnt out and need to get focused again.

I hope that's all it is. Babs is a perfectionist, and I'm sure is on the guys to make the perfect play every single second of every shift. The reality is it's nearly impossible to sustain that kind of focus and perseverance over an 80 game season.

He also mentioned that every team they've played has been desperate for wins, and the Wings are not.

Though with 4 losses in a row, I think their pride will kick in and the guys should start digging deep.

Edit: forgot a word. need coffee.

This was a silly post my friend, Ozzie had a terrible game, combined with no help down low, especially by Lilly-Pad. Everyone has bad games, Ozzie has been in a slump since the All-Star game if you ask me but he is a great goalie and will come out of it. Good to see Howard finally get some action he played well and needs to get some more experice because The Dominator and Ozzy won't be around forever, he is the future and we need our future to develop to its full potential, can't do that never playing NHL games.

not trying to flame but your statement makes no sense. try goaltending is not about looks, but don't bash butterfly, style goaltenders, Just because Ozzie isn't a straight butterfly style goaltender and has low GAA. some of the best goaltenders to ever play I know us Wings fans hate the guy but Patrick Roy (whaa :crybaby:)

so when you bash, the butterfly stle and say its all looks you are also bashing guys like legends Glen Hall,Vladislav Tretiak,Patrick Roy and current goaltenders like Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Roberto Luongo, Henrik Lundqvist, Rick DiPietro, all great goaltenders all play(ed) Butterfly.

I agree it was nice to see a Detroit goalie playing a modernized style of butterfly, rather than a hybrid type style. I personally play Butterfly and feel it has its many advantages, each and every style does, have both its pros and cons, but some work for well for others some don't.

so don't bash on Howard, butterfly goalies, and guys who prefer regular style mask, just because your upset Ozzie had a bad game.

Didn't watch - no need to watch Osgood allowed 3 goals on 4 shots???

Without watching you then take that out of context... there is more factors involved in that than just 3 goals on 4 shots. but not watching it leaves you at a disadvantage of the true meaning of the first 9 mins of the game.

Personally i think last night showed that we need one thing at the trade deadline... We need that Rattleoff kid... man is he clutch!

OK I can see your point of view...

Osgood didn't allowed 3 goals on 4 shots... he made 1 save on 4 shots... if that makes you feel better I'm OK with that.

Let's be honest, Osgood is on the ICE COLD :cold2: streak right now... hopefully he can find a way (ASAP) to win some games...

You saying that is like me saying... "Are you serious DOM is hurt again?" come on now.... Find a way to watch the first 9 mins and come back at me with your comments... your blind bashing is tiresome today.

If that's the case then it's the best time for Osgood to prove that he should be our number 1 playoff goalie...

Before that can happen the team needs to prove they should be our number 1 playoff team.... But you wouldn't know that becaues you didn't watch the game you are commenting on...

Its cool i understand, its more fun this way

It is pretty bad that the bashers will bash regardless of watching the game or not. What basis would he ever have to bash anyones playing without watching the game. Nice.

The fact that he claims not to favor one goalie over another even though it's obvious that he does.

I'm assuming it's safe to say that I'm glad I was playing beer pong and not watching the game?

This is a good laugh, I have heard a few pred fans say they have a chance at taking the division.

Haha...that's cute.

When your screen name is Dominator...kind of tips your hand as to which goalie you prefer.

I have no problem with everyone having their own preferred goalie, these threads just get ridiculous with the back and forth between the Wizards of Oz and the Dominators.

I have been on an even scale lately because frankly the arguement is stale... i have bigger and better causes to stand for on here. But i can not be passive when people who don't even watch the game come in double fisting... <-- take that however you want it.

Double fisting? I'll pass....

I get your point.
