VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 That's a GREAT demonstration about the role fighting takes in the game. Most interesting thing I've heard or seen an announcer do in any sport.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I can't tell if you're being serious or not. How could he have his elbows AND the butt end of his stick in Lids face all at the same time? And I didn't see him leave his feet either. His gloves were definitely up, but they were both going to make a play on the puck. I think we are possibly the only 2 people here that don't think this was intentional or illegal...
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Yes but 2 FULL PAGES OF "OMG IT WAS HIS KNEE" you would think after the first 6 "OMG it is his knee" ppl would know and stop the dramatics. It is basically flooding the board repeating what 10 others say I typically disagree with everything this guy says....but not on this one.
HudlerRULES 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 i want to see lapariere's teeth scattered all over the ice right now. Downey vs lapariere round 2! Make it happen Kenny! This is the reason i get sick of us drafting skill players. What happens when they get hit? Who are our enforcers supposed to be out there besides Downey? Old man DRAKE? Turnover Lilja? LOL we have no one else

ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Mlive is reporting Lidstrom was elbowed in the chin on the hit. Perhaps it wasnt a clean hit?
jim3033 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 It looked to me he kind of hyper-extended it after getting the jelly legs as he went down. I don't think it's too bad Yeah. Looks like he got the wind knocked out of him passed out and had a bad landing. Hope it is just a mild sprain from his landing. It sure lit a fire under the teams ass. Though ozzie came up big. Wish I'd seen the vancouver edmonton game.

And I didn't see him leave his feet either. His gloves were definitely up, but they were both going to make a play on the puck. Eh, passion of the moment- but watch the replay. I see a butt-end of a stick right next to Lidstrom's eye- pretty sure it made contact (I'm at work and sitting a long way from the TV). It was not a clean hit. This may also have something to do with the fact that Laperriere always looks like the guy that gets away with everything because he always has that "who me?" look on his face. GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 We need to trade for Boogaard, McGrattan and Erskine just to play them against Colorado for that last game of the season. I won't be satisfied till something really really bad happens to Lapperierre.
Packer487 3 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Seeing the replay again, it still totally looked like he got his bell rung. Maybe he hurt the knee by going down awkwardly? Yup. The good news was it looked like he was putting weight on his right knee (and when the ref came over to him, it looked like he was putting all his weight on his right leg). That doesn't mean it isn't hurt, but it's a good sign nonetheless. He probably tweaked it a little, got his bell rung, and they're keeping him out as a precaution. akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I think we are possibly the only 2 people here that don't think this was intentional or illegal... count me in. it didn't really look like he was going for a bad shot but ended up pretty crappy. on the side note: anyone else tired of those Marines adds who seem to be aimed at ppl with IQ below 60? It was a good, clean, hard hit, but because of what happened, most people want blood.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 A few thoughts: • Our defence has been terrific, especially given the loss of Lidstrom. Meech even played well, he used his speed and managed to get an assist on the PP goal. I like Quincey, I think he’s been solid tonight and he should develop into a very good defenceman. As for Chelios, he’s playing great and on this form I don’t see him calling it quits anytime soon, at least he shouldn’t! • Datsyuk is amazing; the Chelios goal was all due to his hustle. Already credited 2 takeaways tonight and he seems to strip opponents of the puck with ease. • Flip’s goal was great, not sure how he managed to score given the angle he had to shoot. Hopefully that’ll get his confidence up! • Hudler was VERY good. Good to see him getting adequate ice time too which will do wonders for his confidence. • Lidstrom hurt his knee, oh dear. I just hope it’s not a serious injury. • Osgood has been great. He’s “back” in form, not that his past two outings were really his fault anyway.

savaking72 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Yeah, clean hit by Lapperriere. If anything it kicked started the wings. Lidstrom was just in an weird position when he was hit. If it was the other way around half the people in here would be cheering. Though, now he knows what happens when he puts a good hit on the Captin. He gets his ass handed to him by Downey. Downey should get the player if the game for that instigator penalty...well served.
