sixer 37 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Melrose is the real loser, please... There's a reason were in contention for the cup every year, we'd don't give away the farm on trade deadline day.
Seedless 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 I hate Barry "I'm only recognized because I coached Gretzky and I haven't changed my hairstyle since" Melrose. Who cares what filth comes out of his mouth. The trade deadline is overrated. RARELY does a deadline deal win anyone a Cup.

Guest DetroitBoy313 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 . The trade deadline is overrated. RARELY does a deadline deal win anyone a Cup. That's probably the best thing I heard all day.
Saran 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 we didn't need anything from the deadline that desperately. before our injuries we were dominating the league, no one was complaining at all. how do u expect the wings to continue at that pace when we are overwhelmed with injuries? HOW?
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 we didn't need anything from the deadline that desperately. before our injuries we were dominating the league, no one was complaining at all. how do u expect the wings to continue at that pace when we are overwhelmed with injuries? HOW? Exactly correct ... Funny part is how can a team be a loser if they have added talent to their team without losing any ?
Seedless 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Larry Murphy?...... What exactly are you asking? Are you saying Larry Murphy won us a Cup? Are you comparing his and Barry Melrose's 80's hairstyles? What are you saying here?
Jericho613 74 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Worried about a guy's opinion who still thinks mullets are cool. He has always hated the Red Wings unless they are holding up the Stanley Cup, then he's the biggest fan.

chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Larry Murphy?...... Larry Murphy was the 1 time in the last 10 years that a trade deadline aquisition resulted in a cup. Ken and Larry just went over the list on the Wings pregame show. Melrose doesn't know what the hell he is talking about most of the time. San Jose got alot stronger? Huh? Ohhhh... well that makes sense then. I don't think Murphy was the difference or anything, though. A hall-of-fame D-man never hurts though. I hope no one saw the little intermission clip tonite with Murphy in a bathrobe. Sickening.
Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) Among the last 15 Stanley Cup winners -- going back to when the trade deadline really started to take off as an event -- five of the winners (Pittsburgh, '92; Montreal, '93; New Jersey, '95; Dallas, '99; and Colorado, '01) didn't make a deal at the deadline. Of the remaining 10 Cup winners, seven made deals that you would best characterize as minor, such as the Avs acquiring forward Dave Hannan in 1996, the Wings picking up defenceman Dmitri Mironov in 1998 and defenceman Jiri Slegr in 2002, the Tampa Bay Lightning dealing for defenceman Stan Neckar in 2004 and the Anaheim Ducks adding Brad May (his contribution was sucker-punching Minnesota defenceman Kim Johnsson in the first round) and Doug O'Brien last year. HAHAHAHA The New Jersey Devils landed Alexander Mogilny at the deadline in 2000, but he managed just four goals and three assists in 23 playoff games, which could hardly be classed as a major contribution. That leaves just three of the last 15 winners making what we could call significant deals that played a role in winning the Stanley Cup. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 I don't dislike Melrose as much as many people here, but he considers Detroit a loser because they didn't match the moves by the Ducks of adding Niedermayer and Selanne, both of which were totally unique cases and had zero to do with the trade deadline? I wouldn't call the Wings big winners, but how do you call them a loser when they add a solid D-man for nothing? Hockey analysts fall all over themselves talking about the big player trades, 75% of which don't make a significant impact in the playoffs.
Jwo 7 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Barry Melrose would of still said the Wings were losers at the trade deadline If they got Sundin and Marian Hossa & Brad Richards.
FinWing 26 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 f*** Melrose. "Anaheim added Selanne and Niedermayer"? To me they've been Ducks all along and that team sucked before their return.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Barry Melrose would of still said the Wings were losers at the trade deadline If they got Sundin and Marian Hossa & Brad Richards. So would I, given the insane cost of acquiring all three.

The trade deadline is overrated. RARELY does a deadline deal win anyone a Cup. Exactly. Whens the last time an allstar or top 6 forward was dealt that helped a team win the cup? Heck, most of the time the forwards are a complete non-factor in the playoffs.
CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) Even though I was annoyed with a lack of a bigger name catch at the deadline, in retrospect, I hate to say it, but Kenny made a pretty good move. I would've happily given up Lebda or Lilja or picks, for Feds, but that aside, it's good that we didn't give up on our future, either. The injury bug is our biggest nemesis right now. We WILL be dominant again. I am feeling better already. My trade deadline anger is gone Edited February 27, 2008 by CdnWingsFanEh

epps 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Melrose: Trade Deadline Losers I agree 100%. The Wings lost when they sat on over $5 million in cap space in the off season when a number of helpful players could have been signed without trading any assets. Deadline deals rarely help much.
