DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 Alright, so I'm not sure how many of you have seen the trailer for the new Mike Meyers movie. So here it is if you have not: Basically, the movie looks very odd. I'm one for dumb humor, but this just confuses me more than anything. Well, to the point of the topic. The movie is about Mike Meyers helping a hockey player with his love life. A Leafs player, who apperantly is in Stanley Cup contention...not really sure who the Leafs paid for that one..but anyways. Do you think that the NHL is using this movie as a way to advertise itself? I mean obviously, to some matter yes it is. But it seems like the NHL is taking an odd approach at it. Thoughts? Guest DetroitBoy313 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 I don't neccessarily think it's the NHL trying to "sell" itself.Maybe the movie company approached the NHL with the idea first and of course the NHL won't turn down a little advertisement. But it's funny when it says "The Guru is coming to America" when obviously the Maple Leafs are in Canada. But oh well, looks pretty funny even though im not the biggest Michael Myers fan I do love me some Jessica Alba!!! auxlepli 17 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 I think it's just that Mike Myers is a hockey and Leafs fan. The movie company probably asked the NHL is it alright to use NHL logos, names, etc. and the NHL said yes. Myers also wore a Leafs jersey in Goldmember too. In another Austin Powers movie the crawl at the bottom mentions the Leafs winning the Cup. Also he's been on Letterman professing his love the Leafs.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 Mike Myers is a pretty big hockey fan as is. I don't know whether this is his little idea to promote the nhl or not, but I definitely don't mind. Theres plenty of other sports movies out there.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 Stan Mikita was also in the first Wayne's World movie too.
jim3033 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake? I'd rather see Brian Burke in drag and Gary Bettman in the supporting roles! Anything in mainstream media with NHL hockey in it is good for the NHL even if the movie turns out to be crap. I'd rather see a good movie focused entirely around NHL hockey. Hopefully this one doesn't make a mockery of the NHL.

RedArmy 4 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 I don't think Mike was asked by NHL, but since he is a leaf fan and a big fan of hockey I am sure he would love to help NHL's ratings. Plus the guy he is helping is black, which is not very common for a super star hockey player with the exception of a few players it liek Iginla or Carter back in a day its relatively rare... I am sure this movie is good for ratings though... looks pretty funny
Spinner 6 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 You know it's a bad sign for your franchise when a move is being made that uses the prospect of your team actually winning the Stanley cup as a "wow factor" Ya, kinda like the Cleveland Indians did with Charlie Sheen. Maybe the Lions need to try it again with someone other than Alan Alda.

12Newf 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 mike myers is a huge leafs fan and has been trying for years to make a movie about them. this was 100% his idea and he asked the nhl and the leafs permission to use the jerseys. my parents were actually at one of the games at the ACC where they filmed parts of the movie during intermission. it was a preseason game against the sabres. the leafs also gave their permission to make another movie using their logo about a *** ex maple leaf. its called breakfast with scot...i have no opinion. and obviously this movie will be played in the u.s. because mike myers and jessica alba are in it for starters.
