Avery breaks off contract talks with Rangers

I wish he'd never left. If we could get him for the right price, I'd be all for it.

This would be the perfect move, because teams would waste so much time chasing Avery around, they'd completely forget about taking runs at Lids, Z, and Dats. You know, kind of what Maltby used to do.

Any comparison with Downey is just silly. I rather doubt the blueshirts would have Downey centering Jagr's line, no matter how much of a drought he was in.

No. We already have Maltby to be an agitator and Downey can fight, or Drake. Sign Cleary long-term please forget about UFA's until we got our own guys locked up.

comparing him to downey is ridiculous....avery plays against the other teams best players and gets them off their game, if downey was out there against guys like ovechkin and malkin we would be lit up.

remember how much he affected kovalchuck last yr in the playoffs?

Not cool. Just my opinion, nothing more or less. I think 2.5 million is too much for him, you can respectfully disagree though, not problem with that.

Maltby was nowhere near as agitating as Avery...Avery is in a class of his own.

I disagree. In his heyday, Maltby was every bit the agitator; he just was never as outspoken as Avery off the ice.

I remember in the '98 conference finals against Dallas, Maltby got so far under Craig Ludwig's skin that he literally tried to choke him!

Good times....

Even though I have no real problem with Avery, I would rather not see him here again. I prefer to have ethics and honor rather then success. Right now we have both. Let's not lose one in the chase for another.

Not saying Avery has no ethics or honor, just suggesting that he has a repuation.

PASS!

As much as many of you hate Avery, I would like to see him back as a wing. There is something to be said for having an agitator in your line up and he is one of the best in the game. He is looking for a multi-year deal worth more than $2.5-million.

No thanks to locker room cancer.

Avery is such a good agitator because he's a genuine ******* in real life. We don't need that on our team.

he scores..he hits..he pisses off..he rules..

...and he makes his own teammates and the management want to kill him.

Count on him not being pursued by the Wings this summer.

Avery and Ryan Malone are two guys i really want in the offseason. Avery really likes the NY life though, if the Rangers dont give him what he wants i'd bet he ends up on the Islanders.

His best season he chipped in 18 goals and 30 assists for 48 points in 84 (yes, 84)

Umm...He was born April 10, 1980. Pretty awesome for a four year old.

My concern is if he did come here would he respect Lidstrom as Captain. Lidtrom has a quiet , mellow kind of personality, so I would be worried that he might give him some problems.
