NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 Hopefully it's his pinky on the hand he doesn't shoot with. lol I know you were joking HC, but I would think the pinky on the non-shooting hand would be just as problematic as the thumb would be. Think about how many times hockey players (especially Dmen) out-stretch their stick and move it from side to side trying to poke a puck away. If you outstretched the stick and bent the wrist the toward the body, the pinky would be in a lot of pain. Now, to take this one step further.....if your going to break a finger you'd probably want it to be the ring or middle finger of the non-shooting hand. You heard it from NFM first! Going the extra distance to discuss and clarify any speculation.

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 I just watched the tape. It was Stuart with about 5 seconds left the Jackets player shot the puck and it hit his left hand. A second after that he waived his arm in pain. I think he does shoot left so it's bad news.

I was honestly thinking the pinky would of been best, but as you pointed out most definitely the middle or ring would be his best bet.
interminded 1 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 Which is exactly why Stewie will not even miss any games in Round 1. Players have played on more serious injuries through the playoffs. Everyone's a little banged up. A broken finger isn't a big deal. Exactly !

I thought it was Kronwall but when they showed Ozzy right after, Nick was congradulating him, so it had to be Stuart. I even said to my mom, "uh oh" but then the announcers didn't mention it so I thought everything might be ok. What bad luck for him, getting injured as time expires. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 (edited) What is with our big physical players getting hurt before the playoffs right after theyre traded here. This is Bertuzzi all over again. At any rate, Im not sure why so many people are freeking out. We've beaten teams with less in our lineup and well likely be starting the playoffs with a better playoff roster as it stands, given that Kronwall is essentially replacing Markov. Once we get Stuart back, itll only be an extra boost for the squad. Seriously. We played without this guy for aout 85% of the season. I promise. We'll be ok. I mean, remember this lineup? Lidstrom - Schneider Chelios - Markov Quincey - Lilja Believe it or not, we actually won some games against the big bad Sharks with that lineup. And this one? Lidstrom - Lilja Chelios - Markov Lebda - Quincey We won some games against those big tough Ducks with that lineup too! When you lose a guy like Stuart, who was the big deadline deal, and yet guys like Lebda and Lilja seem to be indestructable for some reason (probably because they suck and don't do anything), it gives reason for frustration. Frustration then turns into panic. The thing that angers me the most is the fact that all of the Wings impact defenseman have suffered substantial injuries at some point this season, yet those two *explicit deleted* losers, Lebda and Lilja, seem to come out of every situation unharmed. I mean, what gives? Do they manage to avoid injury because their both so useless and don't do anything ever? I can't figure it out, and it's annoying, to say the least. Stuart has quickly become one of my favorite players on the Wings, and it's really a shame that this has to happen to a guy that has come out to play, and gave it his best every night since he came here. Yet, the guys who go through the motions, show no intensity, act like they don't care, and, quite frankly, suck at playing hockey, seem to get out of the situations and reap the benefits of them. Now Lilja is going to get regular minutes again? God, help me... I may be overreacting, but it's a stupid situation that has gone on here all season. You really can't be sure that if Stuart even does come back he'll be playing the way he did before his injury (after the trade here of course). The people downplaying this injury are crazy, because it's pretty damn difficult to hold onto a hockey stick when you have a broken finger, among other things. Many have tried, but none have succeeded. As for Lebda, didn't he get hurt last year, when he got punched by Langkow in the playoffs?
Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 20, 2008 No big deal. A broken finger means he can still skate and (for the most part) shoot, and there's no rehab involved. He'll be 100% when he hits the ice next.

chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 If we can't hold off the Sharks for 8 games without Stuart, somethings wrong. Not like it would kill us to finish 2nd, might be betteer. The Sharks are not going to catch us. Let's do the math. We have a 5 point lead and each has 8 games left. If it ended in a tie, we would win because we won the series against them 3-1. So essentially they need to win 3 more of the eight than we do. So if the Wings go 5-3, the Sharks would have to go 8-0. If we only go 4-4, the Sharks have to go 7-1. And the Sharks still have 2 more games against Dallas and 2 against the Duckies. In theory it is possible, but not very likely.

As for Lebda, didn't he get hurt last year, when he got punched by Langkow in the playoffs? Lebda had a sprained ankle and missed 6 games. He also came back before the injury was fully healed and played terribly, likely because of it. After the playoffs ended, he admitted had it not been the post-season, he wouldve been off the ice for another 2 weeks.
