The "Hang 'Em" Thread

Well, blame who you want I'll give you options.

"Lilja should never wear the Winged Wheel again. He f*cked us in the conference finals last year and he's f*cking us again!"

"Hasek is old and he sucks. 2 goals in 11 seconds is one thing, but 2 goals in 9 seconds... Someone get him a kimono and a sword!"

"Seriously, why is Babcock here? You don't break up the best line in hockey in the most important game of the year!"

"WTF is wrong with Hudler? Why is he on the team? SHOOT THE PUCK!!!"

Who gets the noose for tonight's loss? I wish I could Tivo time to the next game and avoid all of the finger pointing and internet GM talk here, but I think I'll just get hammered and watch the board eat the team whole.

I chose to hang Nashville. It was a win or die scenario. I am not excusing Detriot's play but they had to win and the chose to step it up and D-town stepped down.

Finally someone with some actual hockey smarts around here. I'm so sick of people pointing the finger for one single TEAM loss.

We lost game 3, not game 7. We're not gonna sweep every team we play. Next game is huge and the Wings know this!

Screw the blaming... Give the Wings the credit they deserve and SUPPORT your team! LETS GO WINGS!

I pick suggestion number three :P

Of course I also think babcock is the primary reason we're able to play so well in the playoffs so I judge very lightly.

I agree. I mean I was upset right after the game if you read the game thread, but I'm over it now. Or almost over it. The Preds didn't want to go down 3-0. They were the desperate team tonight and the Wings weren't.

Go Wings! Play desperate hockey in game 4!

I don't think we hang any of our guys. Now tootoo, maybe... <_<

Seriously, there was plenty of blame to go around tonight, but they lost as a team. For each stellar stop and gorgeous goal, we had three or four situations that shouldn't have happened. Officiating was bad, but not bad enough to cost us the game. The Wings didn't play their game, especially in the third, and didn't finish.

Hang 'em all together, if you want to hang one of them. Borrow some rope from Manny.

j/k none of the Wings will give up after one losss, and neither should we.

The way I see it is Nashville had to come out in front of their home crowd and they did. Should the Wings have won the game? Yes. Did they? No. Nashville was gonna take a game or two against the wings. We all watched the wings during the season when they played against Nashville, hell most of the Central. Wings now know how to weather the storm against Nashville in the next game. Wings in five.

I don't think many if any are pissed that we lost so much as pissed at the manner in which we lost and the fact that scary regular season trends are still alive and well in the playoffs. I don't think anyone doubts that we won't win this series. I still say Wings in 5. Nashville's just not that good of a team. But watching the Avs/Wild game tonight, I can assuredly say that we will not beat either of those teams playing the way we are now. I think that's more the concern.

All season long it's been "just wait for the playoffs...we'll be more physical then...our D will come together then...Dom will close the door then...our forwards will dominate then..." Except now it's the playoffs and it's just not happening. They could've easily lost Game 2 as well and I personally don't think any of the games have shown a really great team effort, let alone even a consistent 60 minutes of just good hockey. Again, simply put, they're going to have to really elevate their play if they're going to advance past the 2nd round. It's not going to be this easy after the Preds.

And call it doom and gloom all you like, I wouldn't say so. These are the same problems we've had for the last few months. Nothing new. I said many times leading up that I'm going to give them a chance to prove me wrong and elevate their play for the playoffs, but there's a lot of cause for concern. If you look at our D and you look at Dom and you look at our general poise when it comes to holding a lead or when we get scored on, it's very obvious that things need to get worked out. Again, I can't say it enough, these are the freaking Nashville Predators! Easy! Everyone else still alive in the West, not so easy! Time to turn it up. I'm not saying they can't, but they sure better if we're going anywhere.

fact is, the whole team needs to get better to win another game. we didn't deserve it tonight, i thought for a while there that we were gonna steal one. didn't happen. these are my complaints...

1.) the entire team looked tired to me from the get go. No one (except maybe Draper) had any jump to their step.

2.) Hasek, are you seriously going to let two unobstructed shots from above the circle in within 9 seconds? Give me a freaking break. The second shot was well placed, but the first one, you were way out of position old man.

3.) I still don't hate Lilja... From what I saw, Lidstrom made more mistakes tonight but didn't pay for them. I wouldn't mind seeing Lebda replace Stuart next game. Brad didn't look like he had a clue tonight except for when he pinched in and put it off the cross bar.

4.) He refs, have you not noticed the flying elbows, the trips, the checks from behind, the tackles??? Do you feel bad for Nashville? What is your damn problem? It's still hockey even when we're on the powerplay... rules DO still apply. Earn your job and call a damn penalty! Nashville can quit crying about the calls not going their way the first two games... you got them all back tonight.

5.) Good things happen when you put the puck on the net (I'm talking to you Filpulla and Hudler) Don't be afraid to shoot, quit the excessive break-away passing, set up a rebound... or put it right in like Pavs.

Again, we didn't deserve it tonight, we'll step up Wednesday. Our 3rd and 4th lines are playing well, I wouldn't mind seeing Zetterberg and Datsyuk back together. Filpulla and Franzen can handle the 2nd scoring line.

Two other comments....

-Ever since he took a beating in Game 1, I haven't felt that Cleary has been 100%. I'm betting we'll hear of some secret injury of his once the playoffs are over.

-I'm pleasantly surprised and happy with Kronwall, Drake and McCarty, I think they've been playing well. Kronwall is stepping up and making his presence felt in more ways than one. He's moving the puck like Lidstrom and hitting like Kostantinov... gotta love it. Not that the other two are superstars by any stretch, but they are hustling and Drake is hitting people.

In the playoffs, you live and die with goaltending.

Dom let in two soft goals that killed the Wings tonight. You can't place the blame solely on any one player, but this is as close as it gets.

What it boils down to is Dom wasn't there when the Wings needed him the most. As much as I hate him, I'm sure he will bounce back in game 4.

Exactly. To be honest, I didn't expect a sweep, so a loss was expected. But 3 times now the Predators have gone from nothing to in a game or tonites win because of stupid mistakes.

Last game I excuse the ridiculus bounce off the boards for the first one. But since then they have all been caused by defensive breakdowns.

2 goals in 11 seconds, 2 goals in 2 minutes, 2 goals in 9 seconds. If you're allowing teams to win like Nashville did tonite, there is something seriously wrong. I hope this was a huge wake up call and they start to hustle more and start playing smart. Way too many D-men out of position. Stuart going for the bump when he is supposed to be deep man, Lilja out of position half of the time.

I could go on. And for anyone that says its just one game, I hear you loud and clear. But no one on this board can argue that the way they lost is acceptable by any stretch of the imagination. One more for the people in the back.....

2 goals in 11 seconds, 2 goals in 2 minutes, 2 goals in 9 seconds

Well all i have to say is this, I predicted 5 soooooo not like its the end of the world ;) and we can put the preds to bed at JLA. Detroit doesnt have to worry.

The problem that i saw from the middle to end of the second period, was that the wings were sitting back like they were trying to kill off a 25 minute penalty. I kept telling my sister they were going to score on us if we kept playing like that. I figured once we got to the 2nd intermission, Backcock would lay the hammer down on the team for standing around and playing sluggish. The wings looked like they felt like they were owed the win and played like it after the first period.

I, for one, am happy the Wings lost. I think it could be a blessing in disguise. I am not too concerned yet, not unless the wings look like crap in game 4 and lose it. I predicted 5 games and I still hold that to be true.

Hasek I'm not going to throw the hammer down on. There were alot of bodies in front of him on that tying goal. The go-ahead goal was a hard slap shot at point blank range. Hasek came way out to cut the angles down but not quite far enough. The whole team played sluggish and were not skating at all. I think that is why we lost.

i really don't think you can pin this on one or two individuals - but it would be so much better if you could.

the worrying thing is that the preds have not really managed to sustain any pressure for any extended periods of time, yet any time they have gotten some momentum and come hard at the wings, we have fallen apart and conceded successive goals.

i still fully expect the wings to win this series but you can guarantee that the flames, sharks, stars or ducks will be relentless and apply far more pressure on the wings D and we will need to improve dramatically to withstand it.

I blame Samuelsson, If he would of never been put on the 2nd line, we would have no problem.
