EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth at the thought of Ryan Malone getting paid more than Dats. More than Lids. Holy crapola.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 He's making more money then Datsyuk next season, cool. Not a bad deal at 4.4 a year of a cap hit though.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Brutal deal. 7 years? wow 4.4 million for guy who did not even score 30 goals. And he was playing with Malkin/Crosby.

Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Since Barry Mulletrose has been with ESPN, he's been constantly drooling over overrated scrubs like Marty Reasoner and Sammy Kapanen. You'd think those two would be his main targets.
Opie 308 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 (edited) You realize that's about exactly what our own top five makes, right? And more when Z gets his raise. And for the most part they're worthy - perhaps slightly inflated, but not by much really. To me, Kuba is the only real wackiness there. And you do realize they have no D, the difference between the Top 5 Tampa contracts and the top 5 Detroit contracts is that in those contract Detroit has 2 legit # 1 defenseman, and when Z gets signed they will have 2 legit # 1 scorers/centers/forwards as well. It is not that the money is astronomical and putting them in the pinch, as I said in another thread you have to sign Vinny, like Z, what ever he asks for you have to give, however they have a lot of money tied up in offense and offense only. Sure they have Dan Boyle, but he is overpaid. He is at best a #3 on the Wings, and if we take away all world Nick Lidstrom (because no one in the league would be a #1 over him) he is still a 3, I would rather have Kronwall than Boyle, but that is my opinion, others may have him as higher than Kronwall, but he is not a legit #1. Still have to sign Prospal, correct I may have missed the signing? EDIT: BTW isn't this how Tampa went from Cup winner to cellar dwellar, horrible contracts? egroen 384 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Brutal deal. 7 years? wow 4.4 million for guy who did not even score 30 goals. And he was playing with Malkin/Crosby. Seriously... Malone played with these two almost exclusively. Do you think that might have something to do with his numbers? You often have to overpay for a free agent, but this one could be very painful for them down the road.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Kenny needs to sign Franzen right ******* now... QF Absolute T! As great as Kenny is at getting guys to take a paycut to be with the Wings' winning franchise, this is just getting scary.

Frankly, I wish Holland wouldn't stall when re-signing players. He always waits until after someone overpays and sets the tone, and then we suffer as a result. Holland was plenty proactive in signing Cleary and Kronwall. And Datsyuk's deal is looking now like an absolute bargain.
Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 I can't think of a single instance of that. Holland was plenty proactive in signing Cleary and Kronwall. And Datsyuk's deal is looking now like an absolute bargain. He also quickly locked up Samuelsson when he emerged as a regular in the lineup. And Zetterberg's 4 year, 10.4 million dollar contract signed during his emergence(IMO) as one of the 10 best players in the league might be the greatest deal ever negotiated. I hope Zeta fired his agent.

Anyway, Malone's signing won't hurt anyone----he's so overpaid that other teams will laugh at anyone asking for comparable deals. I imagine agents realize this. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Franzen will be an RFA next summer. Kenny cannot re-sign him yet. Actually Franzen will be a UFA next summer. Kenny can start putting numbers on paper tomorrow for Franzen and Zetterberg. I'd guess Zetterberg gets signed before training camp and Franzen later in the year.
