This was during the Cap Era, where as in 2001 Kenny could spend whatever he wanted. Kenny just signed one of the top coveted FA's to a freaking 1 year deal after solidifying the best defense in the league just yesterday. Packer487 3 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 After the Cup this year, Holland moved into "I still may not agree with everything he does, but I'm not saying **** because we won a Cup with a salary cap" territory with me. I'm amazed that they pulled this signing off. I said yesterday that the Conklin signing was amazing. This is pure genius. How do you get a guy to turn down a 7 year max deal (or whatever the B's were offering) to come play for 1 year at $4 million BELOW the maximum? And you gotta love Hossa for turning down HUGE money to try to win a Stanley Cup. My next call would be to Mats Sundin. "Mats, Ken Holland here. If you want a Cup, you know where it's at. Adding Hossa is always a huge postive, and I think its important to keep the majority of this winning team together now. All that I want now is a long-term extension for Zetterberg, and Flip to sign on. Then I hope Holland puts away the check book until August, when he re-signs D-Mac or Downey to a small deal. J-Swift 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I've never been a huge Kenny Holland booster, but managing to keep our Stanley Cup winning core together and somehow nabbing the best free agent on the market while working under a cap is sheer genius.
