Datsyuk had 56 hits during the playoffs zetterberg had 15. Datsyuk could barely stand up in the last series because he was tired. the end.

ps on skates datsyuks stick is up to his eyes i think he may have added 8 or 9 inches on it for pickpocketing since he was a rookie

zetterberg won the conn smythe due to the game saving 5-3 PK in game 4. if hits won the conn smythe, why didn't Kronwall win it?

I think the Conn Smythe was up for grabs until the end by several Wings, esp. Ozzie. Had Ozzie pitched a SO or had a stellar outing that last game, he would have won it. Hank won it by a nose.

I disagree. I think it was close until the game four 5-on-3.

Doc said it best. "A Conn Smythe Shift"

Not only did Z lock up Crosby's stick on that shift, but he also blocked a shot, and ended up generating offense by bringing the puck back into Pittsburgh's zone, letting loose a backhander that Fluery had to save, and then drove to the corner disrupting the Pens bringing the puck back into the neutral zone.

It was close until then. After that, Z had it locked up. All Detroit had to do was follow through by making sure that we won the cup.

What just happened. I don't quite understand your post.

Exactly.

To the OP...are you serious? You think because Dats had more hits than Z that he deserves the CS? If that's the claim you desire to assert I question whether you even watched the playoffs. If there's any comparative question I'd say it was between Ozzie and Z. You need to explain your claim.

to end confusion, all im saying is datsyuk sacrificed his body and by the time they played the pens he had nothing left. otherwise, he would have matched zetterberg in the final few games. i understand the obvious choice is still z.

Here's an interesting scenario:

Say th eWings go on to create a dynasty and win the Cup the next 4 or 5 years. Datsyuk and Zetterberg rotate Conn Smythe (because, let's face it, these guys were born for that trophy). Do you think people would say Crosby is clearly better? :P

I think this topic is pretty silly. Datsyuk was clearly an important player as far as the Wings' Cup win this spring...but I wouldn't put him in the top three for the CS. Osgood, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom in whatever order you see fit. There is absolutely no reasonable argument for any other player in the top three aside from those three. Z was the team's top forward at both ends of the ice, Lidstrom was the captain and best defenseman, and Ozzie was the goaltender and provided some SERIOUS clutch goaltending. Datsyuk could reasonably be argued to have been anywhere from the 4th to the 7th most important player in the 2008 Cup run, competing for position with Franzen, Kronwall, and Rafalski.

Not even to mention his similar 5-3 PK kill in the clinching Game 6. If the OP wants to use the discrepancy in hits as reasoning for Dats to win the Conn Smythe Trophy over Z, one could then point out that Z had 4 GWG opposed to Dats' 1. Point being, that's not why Z won, and why the fact that Dats outhit Z didn't result in a Conn Smythe win.

And Z had more GWG's. What's your point? Why are hits more important than GWG's?
