Looks like this guy is trying to make a name for himself. Note to Alexander Semin:Your last name took care of that for you.

that's pretty much how I've always felt. He's a great player and all but there's nothing THAT GREAT about him. Like, when they say is he the next gretzky and what not, I always see it as pure s***, there will never be another gretz. There's a number of players in the league just as good as crosby and we have three of them.

well said.

I think he just said what 99% percent of hockey fans worldwide would like to say:

we're fed up with Crosby shoven into our arses every time it's remotely possible. if this

makes the league realize there are other stars in NHL than just Sid the Whiner I'm all

for it.

not to take anything of Crosby skills but last couple of season this guy's been for the

NHL what Obama is this October for USA - you're affraid to open a can of food because

you're afraid he's gonna be there. and Crosby is in fact just one of many great players

in this league. not head and shoulders above the rest - in fact he's not even the best

out there

Crosby has been one of the best offensive players in the league since he was 18, he's now 21 and arguably the best player in the world. He's such a nice guy to boot. Sometimes his emotions get the best of him on the ice but isn't that what makes the sport so great? Everything hockey is going to be related to Sidney Crosby for the next 15-20 years so get used to it... he deserves all the hype he gets and he handles it so well for such a young guy

I wouldn't say that. Malkin, Ovechkin, Lecavalier or Thorton are easily a good match here. if not the better.

and I honestly hate this vision. I'm sick of TSN/CBC/... mentioning Crosby by every single opportunity.

there's more great players in this league to showcase. it doesn't really have to be "Crosby and all other guys"

and that's pften the impression when you watch broadcasted games

what Semin essentially says is that Crosby is not living up to the hype and that media is making him much

better than he actually is. and he's dead on here.

Ok... they are good matches... I said he is ONE OF the best offensive players since he's been 18, so you just confirmed that (again... he's only 21).

Crosby is a 21 year old captain of the best team in the Eastern conference, I'd say he deserves as much respect as he gets... as does Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom when teams are talking about the Western conference. When other teams besides Pittsburgh play, other players are showcased...

I guess Semin just wants to let his voice be heard while he's up a few points on everyone else, surely it won't last throughout the year. Speaking of underachieving... what's up with Semin's point totals last year? Let's see this guy win a scoring title or a playoff series before he starts chirping a guy who is already so much better than him, and 3 years younger.

As an Isles fan, I've had the same opinion regarding the "stardom" of Rick DiPietro from Draft Day, 2000. He's been shoved down Isles fans throats so forcefully, for so long, that sooner or later, his status as a great goalie was bound to be taken as truth by most.

Now.....many are starting to see the light. And those who once supported him are now his most vicious critics, because of the disparity between the hype and the reality.

If the NHL REALLY wants to make Sidney Crosby the "face" of the NHL, they'd better back off a bit. All the sensationalist s***e and hyperbole is making every fan OTHER than Pens fans HATE the guy.

Not a good plan, but hey...

It's Gary Bettman. Maybe that IS his plan...???

Semin is a clueless idiot who sounds like some basketball fan when he talks about hockey.

If he truly said these things, then he's a moron as is anyone else who doubts Crosby's talent and ability.

My only problem with Crosby is his whining. His talent and ability shouldn't be questioned. It's one thing when ignorant fans on this forum question his ability, but when an actual player does it, it becomes mind boggling because I'd expect more intelligence from a fellow player.

Oh enough of that bulls***. Everyone who says "he's only 21!" is the first to say Ovetchkin has already peaked. Lots of players show more promise when their young and fizzle out a bit more as they age. Lots of players suddenly get much better after spending a few less impressive years in the NHL. To assume Crosby will get better every year until he's effing Jesus is a fallacy.

Wait. Crosby's the captain of the Habs? Crosby's the captain of the Rangers? I'm confused.

Huh? Apparently talent and ability are discrete? And here I thought you could have varying degrees of talent and ability. Well god forbid me from questioning whether Crosby's the next Gretsky- apparently that means I think he's a 4th line scrub.

Obviously Ovechkin hasn't peaked, but are you suggesting Crosby has? Anyone who ignores the fact is 21 is just dumb, he's... 21... how many 21 year olds are in the NHL let alone putting up 100+ points at age 18? I'm not comparing Crosby to Ovechkin, they are both equally great in their own right and get the attention they deserve, but Crosby is still 2 years younger. The only fallacy in this thread is that you somehow managed a T in OVECHKINs name, T isn't even in typo distance of E and C... lol

Crosby was tied for the playoff scoring race with Z, playing in 2 less games, you know? Oh yeah, he's 21!

Wait. Crosby's the captain of the Habs? Crosby's the captain of the Rangers? I'm confused.

Are you suggesting San Jose is the best team in the Western Conference then? Clearly you are because you're putting 10-11 games into 08-09 ahead of an entire 07-08 year. Or are you serious when asking me that question? Wouldn't be surprised...

I'd be interested to hear from the other superstars of the 08-09 season so far about their opponents, like Tkachuk on Iginla, Kuba on Lidstrom, Tim Thomas on Luongo, Voros on Zetterberg, and Dubinsky on Datsyuk!

Haha, for a second I thought he was talking about Holmstrom!

I disagree with Semin, Crosby is a unique talent, but I agree he is no Gretzky... and not even a Jagr yet. I love it - I love that there are hockey players out there who are inserting a bit of character into the sport, helping to fuel rivalries and making the games interesting like it has not been in about a decade.

I agree that the league shouldn't try to push Crosby down our throats, but you can't deny his ability. He probably won't put up Gretzky like numbers, but he's still only 21 and has already won an Art Ross, Hart and led his team to the Stanley Cup finals. That's pretty impressive.
