Guest Crymson Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I'll certainly admit that I miss having Hasek around. This is not a reflection on what the team may be missing. I just so much enjoyed having the guy on the team. Say what you may about his game being somewhat nerve-wracking at times; he was always exciting and frequently brilliant. He was a beast in the '07 playoffs. He brought a lot of intensity to the table---something that, in retrospect, this team lacks a bit this year---and, in a vain sort of way, it was fun to have one of the all-time greats on the team. I realize it was certainly his time to retire, but I miss having him around in general and I miss his fun rapport with Ozzie. Anyone else---besides PuckLoo --- feel the same? egroen 384 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I definitely miss having the best goalie to ever play the game on the team! What an entertaining player. Just would have loved to see the utter dominance of Detroit if we had him in his prime. Between Sawchuk, Hall and Hasek, three of the game's top 5 goaltenders have played for Detroit. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) I agree that it was time for him to retire, and that Ozzie and Conk can handle things, but, yes, even as an Ozzie fan, I did like having the Dominator around. His interviews were funny, and he was just a cool guy. I saw an article recently where he and Jagr and some others were honoured by the Czech president. It was pretty good, and he looked well and happy in the pics. Hope he's doing well and enjoying his retirement. I know my BP is lower since I'm not gasping for him to get back in his "nest". wingnut40 176 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I don't know what I miss more about Dom, his clicky accent of his flashes of insanity. He was so bats*** crazy and made watching the game even more exciting with his unpredictable antics. You just gotta love him.
Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I'm probably in the minority, and I don't care.. I don't miss him at all. Just one of those players I disliked over the years. Not saying he wasn't one of the best back in the day, but I am glad he retired

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I do miss Dom, and always yelling at the T.V. whenever he'd go away from the net to play the puck
Yzermania 156 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I miss him too, you could have a boring game and then dom would do comething crazy and it would totally turn things around, he had more character than any other goalie I've ever seen play and to top it all off, he is one of the best ever. dicksmack 33 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 With Osgood not playing well, you wonder if the competition with him and Dom was a motivator. But in general, yes I miss the dom.
Guest micah Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I do not miss Hasek. His skills cannot be debated, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. I loathed that dude.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I think the whole NHL is poorer since Dom chose retirement, but I am glad he's gone for a lot of reasons. The Wings will be fine without him. They have no choice. I miss him like crazy, of course. Dom will always be Number 1 with me, to infinity and beyond.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 In hindsight, I miss his unpredictability. Sure, it probably took a good 15 years off my life, but it was fun as hell to watch. Don't believe me? Watch the clip of him taking out Gaborik again. THAT'S fun (particularly since Gaborik was just stunned, but okay afterward).

VladyIBELIEVE16 257 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) I'm over being nostalgic on Dom. It was time for him to retire. Sure I miss Yzerman, the Russian 5, etc...but those times have come and gone and we need to focus on what we have. KEEP MOVING FORWARD. edit - Kelsey Grammar Edited November 14, 2008 by VladyIBELIEVE16

Slave 31 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I am not glad he is gone, but i don't really miss him either, when i heard the wings signed him the first time i was pissed as heel, swore all the way to work, swore all day at work, and swore all the way home, not sure why but i just did not like the guy; but he grew on me after a few games, then he retired and we got joseph...and i was pumped finally a goalie i really enjoyed WHO HAD A NORMAL F'N HELMET. Then hasek came back and..well i was not there so i can't say for sure....seemed to mess up the entire chemistry of the team, then he got injured....then we lost in the first round...and the team bailed on joseph when he stood on his head that series, that made me mad at the wings..the way joseph was treated... then we got hasek AGAIN.....and i thought it was a dumb move by us..but it paid off so in retrospect i guess that is why i am not a GM. and yeah that slide tackle on gaborik was awesome
Shaman 713 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 If anyone hasnt noticed, Ozzy hasnt stepped it up this year, he seems to of in the last 2 years needed the extra competition for the job to actually take it to the level we all know he can play at, which is why we shouldnt have a #1 goalie, but alternate goalies. But thats my opinion...
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 Nope. It was time, and I wouldn't want to watch one of the greatest to ever play goal struggle for another season. Now if you're talking about Dom circa 1997-9, hell yeah.

But thats my opinion... can't really do that this year. Ozzie .877 sv%, 3.31GAA Conk .897 sv% 3.19GAA Six of one, half dozen of the other. They'll figure it out, or else the team will step up and play better to compensate. Edited November 14, 2008 by puckloo39
